Clearly you haven’t watched the whole video or watched any of the masterchef canada. She clearly said she did not meant it and it was an honest mistake.
She was so overwhelmed by the advantage that it interfered with her thoughts leading her into thinking that she cut the flank steak against the grain... So sad.
OOF that’s one of the things that would haunt me at night. If she hadn’t helped she likely would’ve stayed. But because she did Thea was able to put out an acceptable dish that didn’t get her kicked out.
It’s really telling of Miranda’s character to help her competitor like that, and I respect her for it. But mannn Id hate to be in her shoes wondering at 3 in the morning what could’ve been. (Spoilers below but kind of adds to my original point)
Trevor named Miranda as his top competitor, Thea made second place in the whole competition losing to Trevor in the end. Could you imagine how different things might’ve been had this single decision to help not have taken place??
I dont know why she chose a dish that she only made a couple of times. It's sad.
@It's a Bunnay except Thea would have taken a billion years to cut out the crap out of the shrimp and as someone who has never worked with them and while allergic to it, it could and in Thea's case would have taken a lot longer than other people, therefore have even less time to spend on her pasta and could have been more of a disaster making her dish worse than that landwhales dish

I think if she knew what the advantage was beforehand, she could’ve been really devious by choosing 5 ingredients that really don’t work together (chocolate, halibut, tomatoes, onion and beef stock, for example) and forcing another competitor to work with it.
Of course the advantage would not be told beforehand, that's why it's a surprise

Its not actually grain like wheat, it's just the way the muscle fibers on the meat run, cutting against the grain allows for a neater presentation and better flow of the juices

cute duck the “grain” is the way that the muscle fibers run through the meat, almost like the grain of wood or any other substance. it’s like you have strings bundled up together and those are the fibers. cutting against the grain shows the ends of the fibers and helps to yield a tender bite. my theory is that cutting with the grain looks worse, is harder to do, and just doesn’t taste as good

Justin Hughes Of course! Barrie has been a front runner in the second half of the competition. A Trevor and Barrie would have been more appropriate. The only time when Thea excelled was in one mystery box and pressure tests except for the tagine when she even thought about quitting. She's a sweet gal and a good cook but after the top 6 she has been disappearing and only made it to the finale because she just squeezed by.
