At the end of the day, Mariah didn't care about what would bring in ratings or views. Mariah said she didn't like that the producers were trying to make it into a "reality show" she didn't sign up to fake a dramatic feud that never existed against Nicki Minaj on the panel. All Mariah wanted was the show to be taken seriously and all the attention focused more on the contestants and finding real raw talent. I agree with Mariah, she's real as fuck and her maturity and her genuine soul shines through.
The ratings were in steady decline since Simon left. They gradual fell more and more each year. Mariah was the last season when Idol was still ahead of the Voice in viewership. It fell past that once j.lo came back on and continued it's decline ever since. The irony is 3 years later when it was cancelled they blamed Mariah which made no sense.
