- In Iran, amidst escalating regional tensions and ongoing internal protests sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in September 2022, authorities have launched an aggressive new campaign to enforce the mandatory hijab law, dubbed the Nour Plan. This initiative, introduced on April 13, 2024, seeks to rejuvenate enforcement efforts that had waned following widespread outrage over Amini’s death under police custody for "improper hijab." Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has intensified rhetoric against the dissent, labeling the resistance to hijab laws "an imposed challenge" that the regime must confront with harsher measures. This has translated into an alarming increase in violent incidents by morality police, documented vividly across social media platforms where videos of the harsh treatment of women have gone viral. The crackdown has also extended to universities, notably Tehran's Amir Kabir University, where over 200 students went on strike in late April to protest security agents targeting female students’ attire. Meanwhile, reports have surfaced of women facing communication blackouts, with their mobile services cut off shortly after criticizing the hijab laws online. This escalation in enforcement has prompted Iranian netizens and activists to use the hashtag "war against women," signaling a dire situation as the government stiffens its stance on a fundamental aspect of personal freedom.

@@Evridikibio1It's confusing because ethics & self awareness can be disconnected from beliefs. People who found religion damaging had "faith" that atheism would be kinder, & then came along vicious atheist leaders like Polpot, Mao, & Stalin. When we look at extremists like Islamicists & MAGA, religion is a tool of oppression, yet devout leaders like MLK Jr & Moses used religion as a way to promote compassion & justice.

How can I get a couple of questions to Sussana? I want to get clarified something she said about being around leftists with attitudes & such.
First of, my knowledge and understanding of Iran politics is this video and another one I saw from Armin, so I'm probably talking out of my behind here, but what I don't get is, how is it that the islamic republic (or Khamenei, I don't remember which it was) have 8% approval rate, and an anti islamic republic revolution hasn't already happened on a big scale in Iran. The only thing I've seen, and please inform me to what I'm missing, is the protests for the hijab when Masha Amini was k*lled. Since the dictatorship is so "well liked" why isn't there more an effort onto overthrow it?

@blandest4788 that's what I'm talking about. How on earth are they still in power? I believe that the Iranian people want to be free of that regime. So what is holding them back? Dictatorial regimes where the people were against them have fallen before. So why isn't it the same in Iran?
@@Evridikibio1Time. The events unfolding in the now. The interplay on every level of society. Who has the power now & what kind of power do they have? I only know bits & pieces of this, for Iran. The first shots of the American Revolution were in 1775, & the US won in 1783. The colonists were mostly armed already, since most were rural & hunted for food, & many had rifles around from fights w Native Americans. All kinds of variables come in. Do most Jihadhis have arms? Do civilians in Iran have them? Could a nonviolent mass movement be affective? Have possible leaders for either path (armed revolution or nonviolent uprising; sometimes both have happened at once) begun to be known? I can't answer any of this.
