I envy this man, how lucky he is to receive love from an animal. pious soul in the truest sense.
This type of compassion from animals just shows how messed up us humans are in this world right now.

Time to pitch this idea to Disney/Pixar, and prepare making a statue of them.

This is really cute. Animals exactly know who likes and loves them and, unlike humans, become faithful and devoted cuddle companions for lifetime. Having a cute animal as pet is almost like having a baby but one that never grows old and never leaves the house :D
Well in this case the penguin returns to the arctic circle for a few months every year for "personal reasons" (breeding etc.) but always comes back.

It's going to be really really sad when one of them dies. If the man dies first the penguin will return and won't be able to find him. Or if the penguin dies first Joao will not see him anymore. It will be very sad.
