If humanity is able to settle the stars then in all likelihood most of them would be like Van Zandt, unless we find a way to efficently maintain an interstellar bureaucracy. I would be VERY surprised if there was ever truly a unified interstellar human nation.

how much clan tech and scrap you think the Militia has becuase of them blowing up a fully loaded warship in orbit like its a really hard decision to ether keep the strangely intact mad cat or use it as a wrecking ball in what is the equivalent of a 3 way bar fight for mechs

How affordable is the ammo, I have a rifle in .300 Cosby, and I can’t find any ammo for less than 50 Cbills per box of 20.
@@baker90338 Depends, buy it from Catch's Big Ol'Fancy Shootin' Store and you can get 20 rounds for 15 Cbills. Though if you buy it from Discount Dan's Pretty Okay Ammunition and Bagel store, you could get a box of 40 for 10 Cbills and a free bagel per purchase of 200 rounds or more, however I'd check each round for quality to make sure the bullets aren't made of aluminum or the powder isn't actually sand
The best part about the Van Zandt joke is that Van Zandt County was the site of a secession attempt that essentially fizzled out. Army got deployed, a few shots were fired, some people got arrested and subsequently broke out...and then nobody on either side really followed up. Arrest warrants were issued but nobody got arrested or tried to really bother any further with it beyond the paperwork. Everyone on both sides kinda just got bored and went home.
It's such a BPL story that you can kinda see it happening in Battletech lore.
Each side had an urbanmech to fight it out until everyone got bored.
They only got arrested because they successfully ran the cavalry away then all got completely shitfaced while celebrating and by the time the regular army showed up they really couldn’t fight back

I get the sense that if they hadn't run into that mine field and The Clans had invaded, the Van Zandt Militia would have earned themselves their own lines in the Remembrance, by going down swinging to the last man and never surrendering. The Space Texans, would show the Clans what *Real* courage is.

It's stuff like this that makes Van Zandt feel like a real place not only in Battletech but here in meat space reality. Maybe some day there will be such a disastrous place so needlessly free meant just for the misfits. For better or worse of course.

It might just be because my point of comparison is Warhammer, but frankly, Van Zandt seems like a pretty nice place, what with the rolling green fields, blue seas and clear skies devoid of hive cities. I mean, sure, there is the occasional rain flaming morons from space who ran straight into the minefield Comstar left at the Jump Point.

There is something about how the song suddenly ends that is kind of haunting. Sort of like an understrength mech lance runs into some serious shit and you get a Soprano's moment where everything just goes black. Love the song.
The vocal harmony really adds a lot. However, it cuts off right before the final "me".
I assumed that was on purpose.

No, Van Zandt is an independent world, apparently forgotten from maps for around 400 years, located ca 150 light years from Earth.
It was formerly a part of the Rim Worlds Republic until the dissolution of that state.
@@jamesperkins191 Tex chose the name Van Zandt as a reference to Van Zandt County, AKA the Free State of Van Zandt. When Texas first seceded from the Union during the US Civil War, Van Zandt County tried to secede from Texas, but the Confederate military sent troops to stop it. Later during the reconstruction, Van Zandt County residents declared themselves the Free State of Van Zandt. Fearing a secessionist revival, General Sheridan sent a US cavalry unit to break up the rebels. They managed to evade them for a while because of Van Zandt County terrain being poor for horses, but were captured and tied together at the ankles in a makeshift jail. One guy managed to smuggle a knife in and broke everyone out when there was only one guard left. Everyone pretty much went home then, and while warrants were filed for their arrest no one ever acted on them.

I had thought Van Zandt had have been on BT maps prior to Tex making extensive use of it, but now I think that might be wrong

I appreciate professor texs' classes but we've been on van zandt for awhile now and I haven't seen him since he said he was gonna go get some PPCS. The other day I went to the store and these two locals spat tobacco at me and called me a inner-sphere boy then a urbanmech just looked at me until I left, I hope classes start again soon.

I know you've made alot of songs, even for battle tech. but by far this is my favorate.
Weirdly, I kind of like how the song cuts off. Like the singers just meet a sudden and unexpected end on the battlefield, their last thought being of Van Zandt.

I see several refugee space Marine legions have settled on Van zant along with all the other refugees,let's establish some ground rules:

2. Fuck any government including the local one.
3. No space emperor's or empires, you take that shit to the inner sphere or the clans.

We need to get the powers that be to canonize Van Zandt. Where is it supposed to be, anyway? Deep Periphery, but Tex is pursued by Smoke Jaguars? So coreward of the Draconis Combine I take it?
Deep Periphery I think. Tex and the class were supposedly on the run for quite sometime. Their arrival on Van Zandt is relatively recent. He also described it as a place far from the bullshit of the inner sphere.
@@JessFromMeadalso has to be a place of “permanent strife” and subject to attack by the clans. My thought would be maybe about the same degree coreward as the Chainelane Isles, but more spinward. Maybe half way between them and the edge of Jaguar territory. Within striking range of the Chainelanes or pirate groups out of Oberon, the Valkyrate, Santander, etc. That’s roughly three jumps coreward from the far edge of the regular periphery. Close enough a merc from there could go operate in the IS, and occasionally the IS might send a raid (looking at you DCMS) but far enough away to not be absorbed by the IS. Maybe we could get canonized that it was settled by actual Texans and Hegemony Texans from places like New Dallas who were getting tired of big government. Fun thought experiment. BT canonized Tex. I hope they will for VZ too!

I can’t explain it other than space separatism set in the Battletech universe, which is a complete clusterfuck of lore, like 1000 years of cluterfuck, with wars and political incidents ALL documented in detail
The short version, is that Van Zandt is the name of a planet, out on the far edge of human inhabited space, inhabited by misfits, loners and the slight crazy, where they are free from the rule of the autocratic and feudal powers of the Inner Sphere and who are willing to fight tooth and nail to defend that freedom, from any and all comers and against any odds.
In a galaxy of interstallar states that are notionally-democratic-but-actually-hereditary-monarchies with armies of stompy robots,
Van Zandt is a forgotten hillbilly world.
It's a fan-created BattleTech world, now somewhat canonised along with Tex and the Black Pants Legion
Such a great song, but please fix the video. It cuts off at the worst possible time and totally breaks the mood of the song.

@@goatburger7992 Gotcha. Yeah it’s like one second, maybe two, before the song actually comes to an end. Makes it jarring a bit. I actually feel for the Van Zandt militia. You did a really good job telling a story through the song where you care about the characters.
