I don't know who you are or how you did it, but I do know you have done a magnificent job. As a kid, I ran home from school every day to watch DS. As an adult, however, it's hard to enjoy the best storylines--1897, for example--because they are diluted and strung out by the format to which daily soaps, then as now, must adhere. You have solved that problem, allowing old, aging fans like me to enjoy this show more than ever. WELL DONE.
Does this ever bring back memories, especially the music. This was my favorite show to watch in 1968 in Alaska. Between this show and the wolves that howled at night, made the show even more interesting.
The imagery of Victoria's trek into Collinsport for the first time ... set the tone for what has become a cult classic! Yes, it was amazing - and still is (as the thin veil of fabric that separates today from yesterday - past from future - life from death is but an illusion.) DS dispensed with that veil and revealed how our existence is fluid moment to moment. Bravo to the talent of Ms. Joan Bennet, Johnathon Frid, Grayson Hall and countless others.
The show started off with a lot of background extras, especially in the barroom scenes. It also featured quite a few outdoor scenes which, of course, required the actors and crew to travel some distance away from the Manhattan studio to film the seashore and wooded area scenes, which in turn lasted only a few seconds. Apparently, the budget was really running up, which is probably why we never saw all those extras nor those outdoor scenes after the first season.
30:25 onwards......the plot thickens. What doleful dilemma is troubling this dark and mysterious mansion? Victoria is determined to discover the secrets cleverly hidden from prying eyes. The phantoms of the past are beginning to stir....
I remember saying this on Another Channel that The Mansion itself reminded me of Foxworth Hall featured in Flowers In The Attic by VC Andrews. What powerful, wealthy people they are but so sad and miserable.
Thing is there was hardly any vampirism in this, I've skimmed through a few episodes and no one was bitten and converted, in some ways this makes it more ominous, sinister etc ... a good series it would seem, better than that God Awful Johnny Depp movie.
Thank you so much for sharing these. These bring back memories of when I was a kid rushing home after school to watch this show. It was my favorite.
