- Interesting abandoned narrow gauge railway and rolling stock found unexpectedly whilst walking on a public footpath in a remote wood in deepest Sir Y Fflint Cymru (Flintshire Wales), filmed on 7.9.20
All in favor of finding a buyer for this line? She seems to be in fairly good condition for a revival.
It's already got an owner
This video reminds me of a visit I made to Mount Union, Pennsylvania about 25 years ago, where the former freight yard, engine house and other facilities of of the East Broad Top Railroad were abandoned when operations ended about 1956. I had to ask for directions, because trees have grown up around (and within) the property. I was amazed to find long lines of freight cars and other equipment resting where they had been left decades ago. It was a magical experience!
Was EBT in that bad a shape in 1995? I visited and rode the train the summer of 1968. I'm shocked to read that there have been no public excursions since 2011.
A group of actual railroad men have purchased it, and are working on getting it going again. They are also looking at rehabbing the existing track south from Orbisonia. Experienced bunch, expect good things.
@@SteamCrane Thanks for the good news!
The other day I posted a video about a trolley ride to the taiga along a narrow-gauge railway, in the Russian outback. This is May 2021. In Russia, people still live in abandoned villages associated with the city only by a narrow-gauge railway. They move only on homemade railcars. If you have the opportunity, go to my channel :)
Wow! Imagine being so fortunate to have your own railway! I dream about stuff like that! I know it's somebody's and they can do whatever they want with their property but this breaks my heart. I would encourage like minded people to come and get it up and running again. Beautiful location, beautiful asset. Would bring together interesting people, great stories and good times.
We had so much vandalism that I gave up and sold my locos, one of them is still there.
Same, just for me, friends and family to enjoy
As far as I see, this also happens worldwide. I just don’t understand why people criticize the abandoned Brazilian tracks. For those who love these things there you have a real treasure. We built a narrow gauge trolley to ride our local abandoned rail tracks. It’s really fun!
So nice to see. You have so many old railways left.
In Sweden, they broke all the OLD tracks
already in the 60s and 70s.
Same here, to be honest. tragedy.
@@RouXRenard Jeupp.
That is not entirely true, if you know where to look you can still find some old track in some places in Sweden.
@@allanlundin9420 Visserligen är det så, men de allra flesta är borta.
@@makingithappen5178 Ja tyvärr, vi får istället vara glada för alla de ånglok som har överlevt som beredskapslok. Man kan väl inte få allt...
Look at the little cart moving smoothly on the rails making a metallic sound. The cart is very lovely! This is why I like railroads.
Are there many abandoned railroads like this in UK? If the place is completely abandoned without an owner.
Old track and small locomotive. I want to fix the floats and make them my own playground.
Such a shame to see all this equipment rusting away. There are many narrow gauge railways which could restore and make good use of it.
No road access, that's why all work stopped and the remains can't be removed.
Would be great to see all the narrow gauge equipment and the Standard gauge simplex be rescued and brought back to life.... Maybe the standard gauge simplex could be of interest to Lawrie's mechanical Marvels??
Imagine restoring that railway?
that would be amazing
Yeah, that was my thought also.
It would be a lot of work
What would be cool is to salvage the engines, cars, & track then move em to a better place to be used.
The wood ties are easy to replace well cheaper than getting the steel rails.
@@michaelbenoit248 well the owner doesnt want it moved
Imagine riding that train in woods. Wonderful ride
Until the train derails cuz of the old and weak track

Ever heard of train mountain? It is in Chiloquin Oregon
Wow, if someone quietly recovered all those, they could build their own railway on their land.
The land owner will not let the owners of the railway train and parts move them .The land owner aload the train parts owners to build the railway on a bed of a disused mainline railway but the changed his mind about letting people on to his property to see the layout. It has been there for at least 10 years that I know of.
Cool, dass es so Was noch gibt.
Der Zustand ist bloß bedauernswert. :(
@@Funkstaedter1992 Oft spielen da ja Grundstücksfragen eine große Rolle.
So much material lost beyond repair... Makes me sad.
It looks like the engines have been scavanged a bit by hikers. Some of that track has biggish trees but from memory those trees grow quickly. The old railway in Gowerton that closed in 1979 was turned into a cycle track in about 2,000. That would tie in there with about 20-30 years of nature reclaiming things.
There were no trees above about 6 feet tall when we built the line, I pulled them out with my market garden tractor to clear the trackbed.
Man I love places like that. Nice vid. Cheers!
I can picture people ramming the old carts at maximum speed into each other
I can picture a derailment after a few seconds.
That's amazing, imagine working on that line with this style equipment. I always enjoyed using the old locomotives, but nothing beats the new with air conditioning lol
this place looks fun
I know the owner
Who? We could restore those locos to run on the railway.
Does the owner have any plans for it?
@@ORRV1868 Yes some of that definitely looks restorable / usable. Hope you can make contact.
Okay what was the story of the line? What was it used for and why?
It’s abandoned, doubt it would even have an owner!
Amazing that all this stuff is just sitting there after so many years. Did you happen to find this on 28 days later like I did the other day?
This reminds me of that one Thomas and the magic railroad scene where Thomas and lily are going through the abandoned magic railroad or where Thomas found great waterton in Thomas and the great discovery.
bruh
Looks like the remains of an old industrial railway. Is it worth saving?
Lived in Flintshire, (Shotton) for 4 years, had I known I would've had a look for this.
what a location. so peaceful
Im not the only one getting flashbacks from Thomas and Friends "Hiro" episode...
No?
5:32 I was waiting for it like this 👁️👄👁️
Thanks
Its a shame that it got left and not used
I feel like if the right people knew about this those Simplex locomotives would be restored in a heartbeat, wonder if some preservation societies would benefit from an email about this
These belong to a collector named Ian Jolly and yes they are known about by "the right people". He used to run them on his private railway but they were never in very good condition. I think he's been looking to sell them on for a while now but the problem with preservation is that there's only so much money to go around and it's an expensive business.
@@bulletz9280 The locos may be too far gone but the bagons and rails would useful. The Southwold definitely need rails. Other lines could use the wagons.
@@bulletz9280 how much would one of those locomotives be worth ?
@@samwhite1995 probably in the region of £500-1000 for a basket case. Really depends on whether it runs, whether the motor is seized, etc. Some of these would only be useful as a parts donor, there's probably enough here to make one complete loco, maybe with some replacement sheet metal.
@@bulletz9280 , the one in red oxide primer at the two minute mark I bought in 1978 as a runner for £250 from Arnold's sand quarries. Within months of moving it to this line the vandals had stripped it and thrown anything moveable into the river. I gave up and sold my locos in the early 80's.
It is a crying shame that these have been left to get like this, more importantly with the skills of the average restorer they could all be brought back to life because they were built very strong using low tech machinery and skills, yes the tinplate work is shot but that was only cosmetic, the frames and engine were designed so they could be run cabless anyway and a lot did, it is about time Ian Jolly had the balls to admit defeat and if not donate them at least release them at a sensible price, to call him an enthusiast is an insult to the hard working volunteers up and down the country, rant over, stay safe and have a lovely day people.
Ian Jolly is not the problem here, it’s the land owner of the site that is the problem. So having a go at Ian is a bit uncalled for
All problems have a solution but in some cases we just have not found it yet, but there is no shame in asking for help!
There is no longer any access except the footpath, so removing anything from site is almost impossible.
Such a shame. It'd be wonderful *if* that could be restored like some of the narrow gauge railways we've got here in Gwynedd.
Why do I love trains so much 😚 its fascinating 😘
Simplex engine??
I work for Indian railway as pway engineer and IR is very proactive in selling old railway properties so that they get recycled and railways get back some of the cost. I'm surprised this is not the case here.
Beggars belief how many hidden treasures like this may exist in our woodland. Britain 100 years ago would have been an amazingly different place. I also can't believe the top condition of this rolling stock.
That is interesting. it appears it wouldn't be too difficult to rebuild that railroad to show what it was all about.
Where is this place??
Its not an abandoned railway at all it's owned and run by Celyn Wood Miniature Railway this videe was taken when they had been closed due to lockdown and items of value had been removed from the site.
Absolutely incorrect. This is not Celyn Wood at all.
What an interesting little find. Any idea what it's purpose was? Lots of Simplex and lister locos there.
It was a private line built to house a collection, but massive vandalism problems and then cutting of the road access saw it off.
Obviously an old private line on private land, otherwise Network Rail would have ripped it up years ago!
network rail dont even operate narrow gauge they were most likely used for transporting coal or slate to the mainline
@@FowlorTheRooster1990 Network Rail's predecessor, British Rail, DID run a narrow gauge line: The Vale Of Rheidol Railway was ok owned by BR. As was the Corris Railway. These two had been owned by the GWR, and so when BR was formed, ownership passed to them. Although Corris had shut down. But BR ran the VOR until it was privatised in 1989.
here in my country the gypsies would have gotten that and sold it for scrap a long time ago
It's so sad that they just abandoned a old herritage railway. Wish someone or a group could fix it. So sad :(
I Cannot Believe There is still frames of carts and Other Rolling Stock
Any further info about this railway? What was it for?
is the train line what is the lorry line?
Which area is it?
Greetings RailFans from Indonesia👋
Wow, very interesting shame the NG line is no longer running, and would we know which Narrow Gauge line this was ? many thanks in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you
It was a stranded gauge
I'm surprised it was not taken apart and sold off for scrap.
the Perfect location to shoot The walking Dead Season 16
Your onto something here , a shooting seen for some sort of film / documentary / movie / history story. etc
@@fishmut I love Zombie Movies
Man I get with a Steam Locomotive club and tell them about it to try and save some of that stuff
Cool find!
Can anybody pls say me in which place we can get to see the old railway tracks in India
I'm searching for something like this in Australia so I can take my tent and tools and just move in :)
Is this on your property?
Amazing bro:)
It could become an amusement park
Id love to have it shipped to the U.S. and restore it I'm sure there are many places here that could use those
Theres plenty in the UK also
Is it a preserved line
what gauge? more details please(start and end of line?)
Tão bom para ser restaurados e servir como laser. Como eu queria um desses aqui kkkk, iria fazer de tudo para recupera-los. Dei um gostei porque Sou louco por trens e assisto muito videos de Trens.
When I saw that the cart still moved I immediately wanted to go on a cart ride on that thing
@CrashChannel yeah!
Where is this?
What gauge is it
That needs to be restored!
this is so cool
Which place can u tell exact location
Where is this? I live in Flintshire but I’ve never seen this place before
It's on other side of mold
Is it possible to buy this railroad, and who is the owner ?
question whereabouts is it in Flintshire Wales?
Rhydymwyn
What gauge is this line?
from Fraser, husband of Leslie
The most common gauge for these railways was 2 feet, (or 600 mm), but without a ruler I'm not sure, It could be 2'6" (750mm).
Can you anothers video here but you push the carts the whole video
Has anyone tried dialling that phone number at 7:35 - its obviously still valid - about time someone did..
Where are you at I need to go there
What is the track gauge?
2ft or 1ft 11 1/4
omg would love to get this going again amasing how its just been left..theres enough good bits to get it working over a short disance.at least,.judging by the well walked foot path i assum a fare few know of this
So nice place ❤️
very amazing
Wooow... I heard about The wanishing of Ethan Carter, but never tought Unreal Engine can be this realistic.
What was that used for.
Was that a logging train.
Probably a mine rail road, if you approach the portal, dont go in it stay out, stay alive.
Same type of guage is located in india which was built by British in 1914
Is it for sale if so I want it
good video!
Too bad it can’t be restored :(
Who is this area
This would Thomas and the magic railroad
You could make a MYST game there!
want to know the location for google maps
i love tha place
Hi I’m sorry to ask but do you have a email I wold love to get in contact with you about this and getting those locos out
Not there property they dont own it
Shame the owner is so reluctant to sell that stuff. I know soo many people, including myself, who’d love to buy this stuff and run it on their own Railway, or their local heritage line. But then at the end of the day, it’s the owner’s stuff and he still wants it, even if he doesn’t care for it.
No access except a footpath.
why can you not be afraid if there (the bush) there are snakes? 🙂
No dangerous snakes in Wales
Nice 👍
In my country everything would have been stolen in no more than a year after closure
How for because is the using of the track for what purpose
Wo ist das ?
awesome
Why didn’t you puch the little boxcar And make a movie about where you remake the railroad 🛤 a gan
Quite a few simplex locomotives.
I see some rails beside my backyard
The cars are still there.
