During the 1982 Falklands war during a night move we were ordered to move into an known marked Argentinian mine field which had been marked. We were behind in securing a start line for the Marines to attack Mount Harriet. We were well into the minefield when a Marine stood on an anti personnel mine which blew his foot off. Another soldier went to his aid and triggered another mine. Neither was killed but I won’t forget their screams of pain in the darkness. land mine, or landmine, is an explosive weapon concealed under or camouflaged on the ground, and designed to destroy or disable enemy targets, ranging from combatants to vehicles and tanks, as they pass over or near it.Such a device is typically detonated automatically by way of pressure when a target steps on it or drives over it, although other detonation mechanisms are also sometimes used.[2] A land mine may cause damage by direct blast effect, by fragments that are thrown by the blast, or by both. Landmines are typically laid throughout an area, creating a minefield[3] which is dangerous to cross. The use of land mines is controversial because of their potential as indiscriminate weapons. They can remain dangerous many years after a conflict has ended, harming civilians and the economy. Seventy-eight countries are contaminated with land mines and 15,000-20,000 people are killed every year while many more are injured. Approximately 80% of land mine casualties are civilians, with children as the most affected age group. Most killings occur in times of peace.[4] With pressure from a number of campaign groups organised through the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, a global movement to prohibit their use led to the 1997 Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, also known as the Ottawa Treaty. To date, 164 nations have signed the treaty, but these do not include China, the Russian Federation, or the United States.[5]

Hello! Great work on video. The explanation of the firing pin is not accurate. The firing pin is compressed and resting on a catch or sear. When the pressure plate, when enough pressure is pushed onto it and the bottom of the landline, the firing pin will become unlatched from its sear, and the spring will depress, striking a primer which detonates the explosive compound.
So now I have to contradict you. the firing pin? did you even see the size and mass of the firing pin? everything stays as it is here and there is no shaking! the firing pin stays as it is and the mine stays where it is!
The firing pin or striker is the most important and dangerous piece to these mechanical detonation explosives. The firing pin or striker in these devices are all the same size.

It depends on the design of the mine. Not all mines employ the ‘cocked striker’ design you describe.
