The Chery cars you describe are entry level ones. I have driven the Luxeed S7, the luxury brand from Chery and Huawei. The quality is very good.
Jaguar is already the bottom of the barrel quality wise, so I think it can only go but up, especially if they raid China for all the newest tech like 800V architecture, drive by wire, etc.
That's a really poor assessment. Chery are OK and would give the appropriate QC to a western car. Trying to conflate a 10 year old model with what can be done today is just dumb. Chinese automakers move at an astonishing speed to improve, this sounds like racist bias to me. SAIC cars were pretty shit 10 years ago, now pretty good. You will get a better £15,000 car from Chery that any European auto maker.
You're entitled to have your opinion.
I’d agree he’s being particularly naive. A lot of the problems with later models of Land Rover/Range Rover relate to the dodgy Ingenium diesel engines which would obviously be eliminated in an EV platform. Range Rover is already perceived as a premium brand irrespective of the short comings and Jaguar want to move upmarket with their new EV offerings. Whatever, prior quality control issues with Chery vehicles existed I’m sure JLR will have strict requirements in a similar way that Apple have when TSMC make smart phone chips or Samsung screens for them. Chinese companies are way ahead of the EV curve so this partnership makes perfect sense and should enhance Range Rover and particularly Jaguar’s perception.
Well landrover/range Rover are not know for their reliability anyway.
100%
Huge liability for jaguar.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Before you leave negative conclusion about a brand, at least give some data or some test result from reputable organizations.
Sounds like its a big up lift for west brand in term of reliability, hope they can be saved by Chery.
