Several years ago, I lost about half of my hair due to stress. There was hair everywhere -- in my crochet, on the floor, on the dog, in the shower. You name it. It was hard as a woman in my twenties to be dealing with hair loss and nobody to really talk to about it in a way that wasn't "Oh gosh. Are you ok?" I really appreciate you speaking up and normalizing this very real, very common even that occurs. I hope all is well for you and love your content.

Thank you so much for that! I appreciate you telling us your story too, it helps to make these conversations normal , and that yes! it's ok to lose your hair, life goes on and in a way it's easier to manage , and with wigs your hair always look like you know what the hell you're doing in front of a mirror lol , Im not embarrassed or afraid , just just a new chapter :) it's part of the story of me

My older brother lost a lot of hair at one point in college. He has a Master's degree in physics, so he had some very tough classes. It was definitely due to stress. He is 70 now with a full head of hair.

I lost my hair when I was in 7th or 8th grade and again my freshman year of hs because of stress. I had a hard time accepting it at first, but found my confidence eventually, and now I actually prefer my hair really short. I look at the experience now as a blessing in disguise.

I'm 2 months away from 78 and I'm loosing a lot of hair, too. Like you said, my hair is now everywhere. I'm so glad I found your channel and specially your pattern. Also glad you advised what would be the best yarn for it. I was kind of wandering what yarn to use. I'm making me a few in different colors if my first one comes out nice. Hopefully it will.
Thank you so much for providing or sharing your finding with us.
Once I'll do it I willl share a picture.
      Have a very blessed weekend.

I lost about 1/3 of my hair a couple years ago from taking Prednisone and also my wonderful dog died and one of my daughters had a traumatic event. I'm not sure which one did it, but the doctor said it could be just the meds or the stress. My hair was all over the house and in the canister of the vacuum cleaner. I had a lot of hair to begin with, so I don't think it was very noticeable to others. Most of it came back. I love your style and way of presenting the patterns. Don't know why, but it is very grounding and comforting to me to watch your videos, so I'm glad I found your channel. Thank you.

I have Alopecia. I started losing my hair when I was 18 and pregnant with my first child. I just turned 55. I started wearing wigs 2 weeks ago. I love it. Because I can change the color and style any time I want to. I basically let Alopecia consume me. I hardly ever went to any family get togethers. I hardly ever went anywhere. I used to cry all the time. But now. it doesn't bother me anymore. I go everywhere now.

I have alopecia universalis. It was adult onset several years ago. I used to love my hair. I did full on Farrah Fawcett hair back in the day! Now, I couldn't care less. Lol. What hair I do have, I buzz 1/4" long every couple of months. It is so much easier not to have bad hair days for me.
I really had trouble with it at first. Then I realized just how easy it made life, and I haven't looked back. Lol.
I bought a wig but it was too annoying. I wear a scarf or bandana sometimes, but mostly I just rock my bare or nearly bare head. 😊 people don't really seem too bothered by it now.
Actually for me the bigger loss was my eyebrows and eyelashes. That weirds me out even now to see those bald face bits. Lol. That weirds other people out more too.
The eyes look naked without brows and lashes framing them, and I do see people looking away in discomfort sometimes. I feel bad for them, not me. Kids are hilariously curious though.
Luckily eyebrows are easy to draw in, using a stencil, and eyeliner helps make up for the no lashes. My brows, scalp hair, and lashes do come back sometimes, but then leave me again. It's actually annoying when they do because it is less comfortable. Lol.
My sister in law with alopecia all her life used to try to arrange what hair she had to cover the bald spots, now she shaves it like me. She crochets as well, and has lots of pretty hats, but doesn't bother to cover it a lot of times anymore.
I am sorry you are losing your hair. It really does suck, especially if it is so much a part of our identity. I hope you can gain confidence and move forward without letting it bother you too much.
You do lots of lovely crochet so I am sure you will have all kinds of beautiful headwear.
I am looking for pretty things to wear on my head sometimes for some occasions.
I wore a beautiful ruffley organza hat for less than $20 off ebay for my daughter's wedding. There are lots of different styles of those, too. They make anyone look extra put together, and no one knows there's no hair under them. :)
Hugs and best of luck on your hair loss.
I love watching your videos. I have just got back into crochet after many years without. Seeing those mystery crochet projects you do is so fun! So many lovely classic patterns.

Love the button idea, I'm old enough to remember these turbans. But ladies would make a loop to hold the folds in place, sometimes with an accent color; I like the button more. Broaches were also a thing in some social circles.

I absolutely adore your new turban, wear it in good health! When going to the barber, ask for a "high and tight," it's what I believe you were describing, and any barber worth his weight in salt will know exactly what that is. When I was in the Army so many moons ago, it's what we all wore. My wife doesn't like my hair to be that short, but it's my head, and I like it, so there's that. Hope all is well.

Oh, that looks super squishy and soft! And it looks great on you! My Dad's cousin started losing her hair ages ago. She had almost nothing left on top when she started wearing wigs. But recently, she's ditched the wigs entirely and just wears turbans because they're more comfortable and less of a hassle.
Also, I may have to try this stitch and make myself a nice, cozy scarf! ☺

I wish I’d had this pattern when I lost all of my hair due to chemo treatments. I did make several hats to wear, especially since it was winter. My hair grew back, but it’s so thin now and I shed a significant amount every day. I’m sure it’s stress, but it’s something that will resolve with time.
Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I will say that I am 7 years cancer free! I had Triple Negative breast cancer, which does not affect my sisters. I was grateful for them!

That's a beautiful turban! Corinna, I had to do a similar thing with my hair quite a few years ago. I cut it into a pixie. It was a shocking difference but it grew back in thicker and I had more hair than I realized when I wasn't pulling it out by trying to wear it longer. I hope you find that you can wear a shorter hairstyle and use wigs when you choose our have a cute short do when you don't want to cover it up. I know you have a different medical condition than I do but... I am hopeful for you! ♥️🙏🏻

That’s exactly what I’ve done. Shorter hair style and wigs in three styles. Helps to have at least 2 wigs for changing out when one is being washed.
You don’t need to spend a lot ! Inexpensive wigs are so much better quality than they were a few years ago.
I do suggest your first wig come from a wig boutique. They can educate you in care, re-style the wig within reason, and they will cut and thin your wig if necessary.

Love the turban. Love the stitch pattern. Love Joan Crawford the actress (but not the person). IMO men's barbers are better for man-style cuts. You look beautiful in the turban.

You look beautiful! I had thick, curly, long hair and once I started chermo this past November, it came out in clumps. I had a dear friend, who is a barber, take the clippers to it right after Christmas. This turban would have been PERFECT. You have inspired me to create some of these to donate to the infusion center for chemo patients, and with perfect timing for fall and winter! Thank you for the inspiration! 💙💚💛💗💜 I'm blessed that my chemo ended in March. I am currently in remission and my hair is coming in thick and curly.

Hi Corinna. If you get some fresh Rosemary and make it into a strong tea in a non-aluminum pot and bruising the leaves to release the oil. Use that for a hair rinse. It stimulates hair growth.

It also make your hair dark almost black so if you don’t want black hair avoid it
I did it once and my hair turned jet black. I had to have some treatments to lighten them and they are still dark. That colour from a fresh plant does not leave the hair.

    • @TheKatherine1958

@@FoundSheep-AN interesting. I’ve never had that happen. Good to know. Thanks.
(Edit) it could be that I’m naturally - before salt and pepper that is- darker hair. It used to be a very dark auburn. And the others who I know who’ve tried the Rosemary rinse also had darker colored hair.

God bless you! You did a lovely job and you look beautiful in your turban! In 1963 I gave birth to my third child. In 1969 after they were all in school (mothers rarely worked then) I went to work. The ladies there were crocheting shawls with Dazzle Aire yarn, one of my first crochet projects. I learned to crochet from a Family Circle booklet. That yarn held up, and my shawl looks as nice today as it did then, and I used it a lot. Now I'm an old lady and my hair is falling out - it's everywhere! It's long, worn pinned up in back to hide a bald spot. It makes me sick to know I must soon get it cut, because hair cutting is such an art that few people possess and I'm so afraid of how ridiculous looking I may end up. Maybe I should make a turban and see a barber! Seriously, I wish you all the best, and truly admire your spunk. I love making doilies from antique patterns - and it makes me so happy to know someone so young is interested in the old patterns. I'm subscribing!!! Thank you so very much - I wish you all the success you dream of. 💝

This will fit you very well, I guess (just started the video) I think I make it for me, too. I am not sure if it fits me, I will see...
It is so interesting to see all the different stitches and ways to do something. Love it. I am like a sponch that sucks all in.

You're not alone sweetie, I'm losing mine as well, so much I cut it short, and when I crochet/knit, I wear a bandana. I lOVE this turban, it actually reminds me of an ear warmer I make in the front, just no top. Thanks for sharing, and I am definitely making myself one. I an't afford wigs. Looks so beautiful on you in your reel. Good choice in song as well 💜 Have an awesome day!

( yes, it's used , but they are sold clean and new looking , that is the standard for these reseller fb groups) they are support groups www.youtube.com/@heywigsister
