    This video tutorial shows how to make a thermal stitch crochet hot pad. It uses Lion Brand's Side Dish Yarn.
    Side Dish has been discontinued. Hooked brand Eco Barbante is a great substitue. I chain 17 instead of 18 to start. You can also use three strands of worsted weight cotton and go up a crochet hook size.
    Supplies (Amazon Affiliate Links):
    My favorite crochet hooks. They glide along the yarn so nice! amzn.to/3GcjnOx
    Budget friendly hooks that I also like amzn.to/3g64mDe
    Darning Needle amzn.to/3407jTr
    Lion Brand Side Dish Yarn has been discontinued. 2 or 3 strands of Lily Sugar 'n Cream can be substituted amzn.to/343eudp
    Tape Measure amzn.to/3r7MHRT

    Thank you for the great video! Super easy. It was helpful that you used thicker yarn because it's easier to see. I also used two strands of Lion brand cotton yarn called Spice.

    Thank you! I didn’t have a chunky yarn so I made this using two strands of Lily Sugar’nCream (#4) in color Tea Rose with a 10mm hook (N) It took just about the entire 120 yard skein. Only did about 17 total rows for an 8x8 pad. Looks cute and was fun, using the bigger hook! 😊👍

    Hello Kristen. Thank you. Love this pattern. But I tried to find this lion brand yarn . And come to find out Lion Brand discontinued this yarn.☹️! But I was able to search and found some at a store called Super Saver stores. Found 2 skeins of the white in your video. Love love this yarn ! It’s sad that they discontinued it. I was able to use 2 strands of the regular 100% cotton yarn and turned out nice and thick as well. Thank you for the video.

    This is such a cool stitch, I’m going to try it out! Just a few things:
    1) We hold the yarn the very same way. I haven’t seen another tutorial who holds it like I do until now.
    2) Does this stitch make the potholder extra thick, like those I’ve seen that fold over on itself, making it extra thick?

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  3 роки тому +1

      very neat! It's how my grandmother taught me. It makes it extra thick, but it doesn't fold over on itself.

    When i do use the cotton worsted weight #4, my sides turn out ragged. Is there a way to finish the sides?

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  4 роки тому

      Hi Gina, I haven't ever finished the side but I think you could probably single crochet around evenly spaced and then in the corners do a couple extra single crochet in the same stitch so it lays flat

  • @ginafrechette8184
    @ginafrechette8184 4 роки тому +2

    I have a lot of worsted weight (4) cotton yarn. Is there a pattern for using what I have?

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Gina! Yes, you can follow the tutorial but use three strands of worsted weight cotton yarn and size up to a 7mm hook. This is the written pattern in case you're interested in it

    I'm trying to do this project with Bernat home decor yarn . I'm having a little trouble getting started is it the stretchiness that doesn't work well with this particular stitch or is it just me ? Lol

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  3 роки тому

      lol I think it might be because bernat home decor is a tubular type yarn. if you don't have the side dish a good alternative is to use 3 strands of a cotton, worsted weight yarn such as lily sugar 'n cream and moving up a hook size

    • @sboschert6160

    the yarn you used in the video is discontinued. Is there another yarn that you can recommend?

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  3 роки тому

      Hi Gina, I haven't found a great substitute yet that is thick, but I have used 3 strands of worsted weight yarn and gone up 1/2 a mm in hook size and that's worked up very similarly

    Will one ball of yarn make two pot holders?

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  3 роки тому

      Hi melanie! you would need one and about a third of the thick side dish yarn to make a potholder

  • @deewelch4264
    @deewelch4264 4 роки тому +2

    What size hook?

    • @pontneufstudio
      @pontneufstudio  4 роки тому

      Hi Dee! For the side dish yarn I use 6.5mm and if I'm making it with 3 strands of worsted weight yarn, I bump up to a 7mm hook. I crochet on the loose side so if you have naturally tight tension I'd go up a hook size or two from those.
