  • In the early 2000s, Rich Harrison started his own production company called Richcraft Inc. At the time, He was known for producing a track on Mary.J’s album called Beautiful Ones.
With not that many production credits to his name, Rich decided to develop a new artist. She goes by the name Amerie.
Before Amerie dropped 1 thing She was just a young singer with a dream. Through a mutual friend, Amerie made contact with producer Rich Harrison and spoke to him on the phone. The pair then agreed to meet at a Mcdonalds Parking lot. When they met, Amerie sang for Harrison on the spot. She knew that she was in the presence of a well known producer and decided she wasn’t going to waste the opportunity presented to her.

Amerie's career was sabotaged by the music industry. She and Beyonce were too much alike and money bought Beyonce's fame. Back in the early 2000s there were many new artists whose careers were destroyed because they were too similar to an existing hitmaker. Tommy Matola launched Tarrayln Ramsey's debut single "Up Against All Odds" but she sound too much like Whitney so they killed her career. Amerie went down because of Beyonce. Neyo suffered because of Usher. Tank suffered because of Tyrese and on and on and on... It's crazy how things worked out for some...

That comparison is so dumb because they are both extremely talented and true artists on their own right and it's unfair to both ladies but more so to Amerie. AND they couldn't be more different in terms of voice, style, charisma, journey etc. But since you wanna play that game and that I got time today!!! Beyonce had sold millions of records, toured the world (stadiums) , had number one songs and grammies (when they meant something) with Destiny's Child and by herself before Amerie released her most popular song , to date - "One Thing", that peaked at number #9 in 2005. Hence the reason why Amerie actually paid a tribute to DC:
      ua-cam.com/video/8Ovxedlqavo/v-deo.html
Amerie had everything but a long term vision and the team that would help her execute this project AKA release hits after hits, become mainstream, iconic but also current. Also I personally think that when husbands or boyfriends manage their significant others they doom their artist. I've always hated the fact that her now husband was (is?)her manager cause he's not a good one and she would have known if feelings were not involved... HE helped sabotage Amerie because again he sucks same for her record label. Amerie was never meant to perform in unknown clubs EVER! and this makes me mad asf lolol! This guy literally crushed a diamond. Even Beyonce released herself from her dad at some point and became even more successful as a result. Nobody sabotaged her but her own camp but she's supposed to be the captain of her ship too so that's on her as well.

She was one of my first childhood crushes..beautiful inside and out with dope organic music. I didn’t know she leaked “1 thing”, that song was everywhere in 2005, so props to her. I’m not surprised about J. Lo trying to block that release as she is known for taking more talented artist’s work and passing it off as her own (ie Ashanti). I feel she could’ve had a Rihanna type career.

Crazy how labels and producers can sabotage their own artists. She had a unique sound and they sold it off and on top of that didn’t promote her album.
