As a small kid in the 60's/70's, my late father would take my brothers and I to watch sprint racing every Friday night. I don't remember a lot, but for some reason the following drivers: #77, Johnny Suggs and #9, Shady McWhorter. Great memories!!!!
It was on Jim West Road, east of Buckner Blvd in northeast Dallas. I'm not sure if it was on the north or south side of Jim West. I drove down the street in 2019. It is mainly apartments now.
It was on John West Rd., north side and west of Buckner. Agree that there were apartments at the approximate location when i drove through several years ago Was close to a small airport/landing trip on south side of John West Rd. Noticed Sandra Carter name on this video. Probably related to Roy Carter I think he was promoter of races along with wrestling matches i Dallas.
My dad raced there a few times in his white Idle Rich Special he built, it was number 24 and another race car yellow number 87 driven by George England, both were 55-57 bel air. (Imagine if they had LS swaps back then). I think this was the track a driver named shady eight was decapitated and referee was traumatized when he found his head in his helmet. This area was called devil's bowl before it was a racetrack before 1941, and the area was known for tragic accidents & deaths, does anyone know why this area had the name "devil's bowl"?
@@bartstevens3405 I am an old timer, but my memory is foggy, I remember reading a long time ago that it had the name of devil's bowl in the 1930's, long before it was a racetrack; it's a strange name to name a place.
What great footage! Thanks for posting this. :)

Great Video! Remember that place very well.
That rather large fellow towards the end was Billy Casper and the driver passionately kissing the trophy girl at 1:08 was Jim McElreath.
I love this video but I think you would really enhance the enjoyment of it if you used some period-appropriate music.
That is at the old Devil's Bowl.
Where was devil's bowl located exactly?

I knew the track was at Buckner and Jim West but never heard it called that before the track was there.
I had not heard that this area was known as devil. I'll ask some old timers who may know.
