I love her. I've almost cried listening this incredible performance. It's not only about technique, this girl is so emotional and humble. She's a mix of Whitney and Aretha. Absolutely brilliant.

Thank you. The first time I heard Jennifer sing this song I wondered how difficult it must have been for her to sing the verse about "shoot the gun" since 3 people in her family (mom, brother, and nephew) died in a shooting. I noticed the back up singers got a little louder at that point. Amazing Grace was different, but that was the church focused singing.
I just wish Ken someday start a story time series, I can listen him

Kay Jack it is A LOT! Especially once they get to testimonial/confession. Although I’m an atheist, one thing I always appreciated about being black and going to a black church (Southern Baptist) was the music. I always loved the music... the collard greens too.

I love this song as it was originally. So many great singers have attempted this song and interpreted it into their style. Very few have managed to sing it as it was written and performed by Leonard. K.D. Lang has an incredibly emotional rendition that she sang when she was a last minute replacement for the Juno awards in Canada a few years back. If you want chills, find K.D singing this song live.
I Am Perplexed I'm very aware of kd's version. It was definitely a "we're not worthy" moment.

Ahhhhh - that's some pipes right there! The gospel church story reminds me of a worship conference I went to where it was all people who lead worship in all different types of denominations (back in 2008), and the sound of all the harmonies all over the 1,000 seat-ish auditorium was so tremendous!!!! It was truly a little piece of Heaven!!!!

I love her, but don't care for her cover version of this. After hearing the Buckley version, I haven't heard a version that moved me emotionally the way that one did. His voice and the nice simple arrangement really showcased the emotion in the melody. It's a haunting melody. Still, her voice is so lovely.

I would LOVE for you to react to some Elvis live performances. Your vast knowledge of music, singing, and performing is beyond evident, but your kindness shows through in every video and you're truly a joy to watch (and listen to). "Trying To Get To You" from the '68 Comeback Special, and "How Great Thou Art" performed in 1972 in Las Vegas would be two I, personally, would enjoy hearing your thoughts and critiques on. Two very different types of performances.. and truly would love to know what you think about them.

It's an interesting cover, I personally prefer K D Lang's interpretation she did in front of Leonard Cohen for one of the award shows in Canada. Of course Jeff Buckley for me was so special I had the opportunity to hear him sing this song before his tragic passing and I've never heard anybody put as much passion into every word. You're right Miss Hudson has a very velvety smooth texture to her singing but in my opinion this is a little schmaltzy for this song. It's always I appreciate your take on the vocal techniques used by various artists it helps me to understand my voice better so thanks for that Ken! I once played electric violin for a funeral for a coworker at a gospel church and I played my rendition of Amazing Grace, which has Blues influences and riffs. It was so cool when the organ player and the drummer played along with me and we just turned it into a jam session playing all these different gospel favorites since they had the chords there I just improvised with them and we just had an amazing time thanks for sharing your experience brought back very fond memories. Rock on!

I have been trying start a blog the last month and a half, ive been so overwhelmed trying learn so much, My 'find your voice' emotional therapy was neglected completely. Until, I was struggling and reprioritized my time. I missed my singing therapy, and I missed your videos ( I say where the proof is in the singing with you everyday! Lol) ... And your hair all on fleek. I lost all breathing awareness... hopefully muscle memory applies with singing. Axel Rudi Pell is my fav version of this song. 😘. I find your reactions are great insights to basic theory.

Another nice breakdown of a good singer Mr Tamplin. Just one suggestion re presentation. The J HUD insert looked a bit odd with a silver mic grill on top of her head. Worth considering methinks.

Her voice reminds me of a slightly smaller (in volume output) version of Patti Labelle. Both huge voices, but JHud has a more beautiful softer side to her voice. But in their upper belting range they have this massive almost metallic sound

Don't sell yourself short. You are a great singer and I'd much rather listen to you than any gospel choir. I like hearing it once in a while but they quickly bore me to death with their cheap runs and redundant screaming and growling. J. Hudson is one of the top, quality singers today..! Good job, Ken..!
