- Tata has captured and dominated the Indian market in haulage trucks since the independence of India. Now the biggest five-axle truck that you can buy in India is 16 tyre configuration. While all 5 OEMs in India offer 16 tyre trucks with 48 Tons gross vehicle weight. Tata is the one who always sells more than 50% of the 5 Axle 16 tyres Rigid Trucks(mostly cowl). Now we are updating to Bs6 phase 2 norms or real driving emissions(RDE) from one April 2023. Recently at Jamshedpur mother plant of Tata Motors (the mecca of Indian Truck Manufacturing), we have seen Tata 4830 Bs6 phase 2 Signa and Cowl 300 HP 16 tyre new Haulage trucks where I was impressed by the improvements. When the Cross members were relocated on the ladder frame.
The first and major improvement is the Cummins engine which now produces 300 HP from 250 HP than the predecessor and 1100 Newton metres of torque from 950 Newton metres in the previous generation. The deck length of 32 feet makes it now a perfect rigid Haulage truck with improved fuel efficiency by multimode switches, hill start assist, and even Engine breaks to control trucks downhill and whatnot.
The highlights are now the cruise control feature which will help the driver to drive at a constant speed and take more advantage of mileage. The lift axle has been improved and significant changes have been made in the drive line including the live rear Axle where the model number(Now RA114) has been improved due to the internal configuration changes.
The on-road price of 50 lakhs makes this costly but the value it offers against the price will make sure the fleet owner gets maximum profit output to recover the cost in the shortest span of time.
The maintenance of this truck will be on the lower side because of the increased service interval of various aggregates which will make more profit contribution and lesser downtime.
Among all 16 tyre trucks available in India Tata is the most reliable brand with its improved mileage and more promising service network across the Pan India Network. Even the resale value of the Tata 16 tyre is the highest among all its competitors.
