    I know this video is a few years old, but here goes.
    I've had a glue gun since 2000 that's worked wonders. Lately though, I've noticed glue back flowing where the glue stick gets pushed in. I pulled it all apart and cleaned out that area, but it still seems to be doing it. The glue stick doesn't seem to want to move forward sometimes.
    So I bought a new glue gun at the dollar store today (I bought this one at a dollar store in 2000). The new one just doesn't seem to heat up the glue sticks, they come out in this thick blob, where my old one heats them up nicely, it just has this new issue now.
    suggestions?
    I was wondering if maybe the glue sticks are too small? but i've used these before. So I figure they should be fine.
    The glue sticks are listed as "all purpose" for use with high, low, and dual guns.

      I still answer questions! It's possible it's the circumference of the glue sticks that are giving you problems, but as ling as the gun is trying to catch when you squeeze the trigger, it's probablynot that
      . Not sure if you're in the US, but the quality in the dollar store glue guns has gone way down. My only suggestion (other than buying a craft store glue gun) is to try low temp sticks they have the most wax, so also have the lowest melting point. Hope that helps.

    • @g8kpr3000
      @g8kpr3000 2 роки тому +2

      @@MakerHighSchool It catches the glue stick, but as the glue stick gets to the end of it's life, it starts to all clog up and the next one doesn't advance very well. I can usually force the next one in and it will start to go again. I might try the new glue gun with low temp glue to see how that works. Thanks.

    Hi. I bought a brand new glue gun with glue sticks in the kit. I inserted the first glue stick and it did not insert all the way even if i used the trigger to push it forwatd. So as the instructions say to insert a second glue stick behind it to push the first glue stick into the chamber. I turned on the glue gun and ended up with the first glue stick bending at the back while the second glue stick attempted to push the first one through.
    What do i do now? Can i cut the bent piece off while it is cold? Will that help? Wish i could upload a photo here, but can't see a way to do that.

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  Рік тому +2

      From what I'm picturing, yes, I'd cut it off if you can. (While it's cold and unplugged) put in the second glue stick and try again. (The risk is you might break the assembly inside.)
      Since it's new, if that still doesn't work, you can always return it. Best of luck!

  • @bafk3t

    I just bought it, opened it and put the glue stick that was inside the box. So it's got to be the right quality. I pressed inside as far as it goes. Not working and glue is not coming out. How do I get the stick out

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  Рік тому +1

      You should honestly exchange it for a new one. It means your heating element isn't getting hot enough.
      If that's not an option, best case scenario is turn it on and let it sit for 5 + minutes. You can unplug it and pull it out of the back. I DO NOT recommend since you can break the assembly and leave glue behind in the barrel. If that doest work, it means your heating element is totally shot. Be careful not to shock or burn yourself.

    My glue gun worked before on the sticks I have rn but now it's not working. I tried to look inside the glue gun and I saw the stick there. The stick is not melting. Do I have to Unscrew the glue gun to get the stick out?

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  3 роки тому

      It depends. I have a video showing the inside of a glue gun. If the glue is stuck in the heating element, it's dead because it's not getting hot enough to melt the glue. If you do decide to open it, make sure to unplug it first. 👍

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  5 років тому

      without knowing what you're trying to glue, I can only guess. Hot glue isn't always the best adhesive for some materials. I have videos about a couple of other glues that might work better, or you could check out the website thistothat.com to get a recommendation for the type of glue to use to glue two surfaces together.

      Might be the spring on your trigger. IF you're an adult, you can take a look at my video "how a glue gun works". Make sure you UNPLUG it if you decide to open it up. If the spring is still attached where it should be, you might want to try replacing it if there's a spare one lying around. Hope this helps!

  • @Struck-animations-studios-2683

    My glue gun keeps making little bubbles and every time I try to heat it up it never works and I do remember that someone in my house put a crayon inside of it maybe that’s the problem I don’t really know

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  Рік тому

      I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Glue sticks are a mixture of plastic and wax. Crayons are wax and other things like hard minerals to color them, and additives to make them glide easier. The wax melts faster than a glue stick and leaves behind everything else, and that clogs the glue gun. That sucks, sorry.
      I've had a lot of people on my glue gun burn video comment they did it with crayons in the gun. At least no one got burned badly. I'm afraid you're going to have to buy a new glue gun since it's next to impossible to get inside the barrel. I have a video showing what the inside of a standard glue gun looks like if you want to know what I'm talking about.
      Stay safe! Best, Lori

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  5 років тому +2

      You could try letting it sit a little while longer while it's heating up and then possibly pushed gently from the back of the glue stick. Don't go too hard could because you don't want to break the trigger. If it still won't move, then there's a problem with your heating element, probably. I'd return it and exchange it for a different kind.

      If you've tried using low temp glue sticks and it still won't work, the problem is either your outlet or the gun itself. Try it in a couple different rooms and if it's a no go, it's the gun. I'd exchange it for a different brand if possible. Hope that helps! 👍

      Ad tech has been going down hill lately. If you can return it and get your money back, that's the best option. If the store gets too many returns, it will stop carrying that item. That's usually how manufacturers get the message that people aren't going to support their bad products. 👍

      If the glue is coming from everywhere, it sounds like you either have a clog or a problem with the trigger. I have another video showing the inside of a glue gun. ONLY open it up if you are an adult. If you open it up, MAKE SURE it is unplugged. The spring tension may be off. If it's not the spring, then it's a clog on the inside of the heating element.
