Nice update. Thank you.
No problem 👍thanks for the comment.
I placed my chicks (6 week olds) in the garage out back Sunday evening. I had been seeing a single hawk flying around. Yesterday like clockwork I counted 3 in the sky at once circling the building. They can hear them chirping!
I don't know if they can hear them but you have to keep them penned up Hawks won't stop until they get them.
@@Robinson-Homestead hawks have excellent hearing. These chickens are either inside or in the run. They wouldn’t last free ranges here with the hawks and my dogs
They have gotten big, that's for sure! Thank you for sharing!
We'll have eggs not too long thanks Paul
Looking good Kevin!
Thanks Gary.
According to USDA, to be considered Free Range, each chicken must have 2 square feet of range or grass for a minimum of 6 hours a day.
Pasture raised is 108 square feet per chicken. So it looks like you meet the minimum requirement for Free Range. The fact that you move them around makes it even better.
Thanks Daryl I don't know that good information.
There's a certain amount of serenity that comes with watching chickens. Especially, if you're in a rocking chair in the back yard on a summer's day and about a dozen are close at your feet. In a group therapy session about 40 years ago for military PTSD, the doctor had everybody close their eyes and imagine that scene. It worked for the guys from rural settings, not so much from the city folks. :-) ;-) :-D
Thank you Bent Nickel.
Wow those little chickens grew. Good job and thanks for sharing. I enjoy your video's
They're getting big wheel have eggs before long thanks for the comment.
Wow! They sure got big. Very nice to see how well your caring for them. I never heard of green eggs except in a Dr. Suess story. Had no idea they were real. I always learn something new from your videos. Love it! The coop is really nice looking and so practical having wheels. Such a cool finished product. Looking forward to your next video....no matter what it is :) Be well my friend!
Thank you Gerard it's always nice to see your comment.
It’s always great to hang your feed, it really stops mice from eating it all. The chickens look great, thanks for having us over, be well my friend.
Always trying to get rid of them mice. You to my friend.
Hi Kevin. As usual great going. I really enjoy looking at your chickens growing. It reminds me of my dad rearing chicks when I was just a youth. He built the floor of the coop at an angle which allowed the eggs to roll out to the front where the chicks could not get to pick at them. This also allowed for easy egg collection. Your videos are amazing. Keep up the great work.
That's a good idea next Coop build that's what I'm going to do thanks Clarkie.
Nice chickens! Glad you guys were able to get set up!
Thank you Sky Forge.
I enjoyed the chicken update.
Not too long we'll have eggs thanks for the comment.
Hey Kevin! Those chickens have gotten a lot bigger. They will love that coup for sure, especially when they get ahold of that grass. It's a good diet that all chickens like. You'll have to feed them some cattapillars or any type of bugs too. I know my chickens loved just the fun of chasing down any thing sort of meaty to them and it also kept them busy. I had so many eggs I either sold them or gave away because I had so many wanted to get them out of the house. I usually had around 10 or 12 chickens. Made as many meals I could.
You can't beat them fresh eggs mmmm thanks for the comment.
Can you do an update video on how they are doing in the coop you built? Thanks
One day thanks.
I thought you were going to open that bucket, at the beginning of the video, and it would be full of fried chicken:)
Lol that sounds good.
They eat tics too..good for your yard.
For sure
Nice chickens. Gonna have ya some nice eggs
Not long for sure thanks.
They grow fast....I hope you're not thinking of eating them....nice cute little pets you got there....happy they have lots of water and grain.....Now your a real farmer Kevin....you be eating a lot of egg salade..I would need some of them hawks...Got plenty of nut grabbing four-legged critters here....CHEERS ((just kidding about the cute little pets))
All's I need is a big tractor like you're John Deere thanks Gator.
Luckily I haven't had a hawk problem yet. Mine are free range for now but not for long. They are wrecking havoc on everything. Always into mischief. Its either fence them or continue fencing everything else
I know what you mean there thanks for the comment.
goats keep the hawks away
Thanks for the comment
Kevin, You Could Leave Those Chicks On Starter Feed And A Little Bit Of Cracked 🌽 Corn For The Rest Of The Summer Up Until it's Colder At Night... There Really Isn't Anything To Prevent Hawks, Owls, Foxes, Opossums, Cyotes And Other Wildlife From Getting Chickens Unless You Go To Lowe's Or Somewhere Like That And Buy A Silt Fence Around 150 Ft. Long And Stake It Down In A Large Circle And Then Get The Thinnest Gauge Chicken Wire And Cut It In Sections And Put Over The Complete Top Of The Silt Fence So The Hawks And Owls Can't Dive Down From A High Tree And Grab Them But It Basically Makes A Easy To Put Assemble And Disassemble Chicken Kennel For Them And It's Very Cheap For The Chicken Wire And Silt Fence With Oak 1x2 inch Stakes Stapled To It But It's An Idea! 👍
Thanks for the info Sim I'll probably just use the chicken tractor for a while.
dang they are big!
They are growing for sure.
How about covering the free range area with chicken wire. The free range chickens are the best as they fully develop in nature. Best to you Kevin
I think that would work best.
😊👍
Thanks Pere T.
How about a video on the coop how you like it what you'd change
Will do thanks for watching
@@Robinson-Homestead currently building a simular one now!!
Ah yes non Sunday dinner
Thanks for the comment Jim.
Hey Kevin just wondering how the chickens are getting on ? Did they like the coop on wheels ? Also have you named them ?
We didn't name them , but my granddaughter is taking care of them for a while.
@@Robinson-Homestead I’m in the process of designing a chicken coop for us and I have a ton of pallets that I thought would be a great to use for this project and your videos have really helped so thanks for all the info if there are any more tips or tricks or experiences you have had that you could share that would be fantastic thanks again for sharing what you have done and good luck for the future :)
You need a large aggressive rooster! Feed the crows and black birds, they hate hawks!
