A fantastic movie. I must have seen it 20 times and I probably know most of the dialog now and yet I could quite happily put it on now and watch it again. The mark of a true brilliant piece of entertainment.. . Never give up never surrender!

Just watched GQ for the nth time last night. Blubbed again at the moment Alan Rickman promises vengeance for the fallen Thermian. Blubbed involuntarily again watching the moment here.

Freaking RIckman, man.... "...something people put on when they want to watch something called a movie." Nail on the freaking head! Two things we didnt deserve, dogs and Alan Rickman....

GQ is a "homage" as Tony Shoulhoub puts it. That's what it is: a loving homage to Star Trek, to the fans and friends of Star Trek. It's an iconic film. The world would be poorer without this film. Watch it many times, love it, always cheers me up.

One of the greatest love letters to sci-fi. Galaxy Quest is maybe one of the best satire ever created. It's definitely one of the best movies made.

I've watched this movie countless times. One of the most memorable was in a huge room full of "Trekkers" attending the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas in 2021. We laughed, shouted, clapped, and whooped it up as Anthony Montgomery of "Enterprise" hosted the film and made appropriate comments as we watched the movie. I still laugh throughout the movie, no matter how many times I see it, just like I did when I first saw it in 1999.

I "discovered" this film in a DVD store years ago and had never heard of it before. I don't remember any advertising, promos, etc., so I had no idea what it would be about other than kinda of a spoof on Star Trek. Naturally, because it is such a great movie, I bought my own copy and watch it over and over. So funny.

I have been a fan of Science Fiction programs and movies since my teen years. I have attended many Science Fiction conventions over the years. When I first saw the commercials for Galaxy Quest I thought it looked a bit stupid. I ignored the film until it showed up on TV one day. I decided to watch to kill some time and not expecting much from it. It turned out to be better than I expected. It turned out to be a fun film. I picked up on all the things that were being parodied as well as those that were more of an homage to Star Trek and SF fandom.

    • @GrahameGould

Interesting. I think I thought it would be stupid but I was hoping it would be funny stupid, not just stupid.
Not only was it funny, but it was not stupid at all. It took what looks stupid (to some, or many - and that's different for different people) and played with it to make it brilliant.

  • @GrahameGould

I can't remember what my expectations were of the movie. I guess I was probably hoping it would be good. I might have had expectations it would be good. I doubt I was expecting it to be awful.
It certainly wasn't my "second choice"! As good as Green Mile was, I wasn't going to Galaxy Quest because I'd missed Green Mile or some other movie. I went because I wanted to see it and thought it would/could/should be good.
And boy was I not disappointed. And I'm glad I can still enjoy it today, as much, if not more. And thank you for these clips that make it even better!
    They did an EXCELLENT job.

Strangely, these people are not telling the truth at all. Actors weren't involved. However, it was I who insisted on Ms. Weaver. I came up with the concept and the story for Galaxy Quest, beginning with the ceiling search for shoes. I wanted astronomy to look for evidence of alien species by seeing what was physically in evidence, like minefields, etc. They couldn't get Star Trek, so I came up with Galaxy Quest for them. They made this movie because of my previous successes, Star Wars, E.T., 6th Sense, The Matrix, Braveheart, Forrest Gump, Passion of the Christ, on and on. I put in the chompers. I trained the Thermians how to walk, etc. The bathroom stuff was these guys' main contribution. I made the fans save the day. The credited writers probably paid for their screen credits. I told Spielberg early on that he could get money for selling credit like that. I made up the Rock Monster and transported him into the ship, which was a cool idea I remember. If you like it, I'm glad. I also made up the stories for Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption, too.
