- Originally recorded on July 15, 1956 in Los Angeles, this Manly Hall lecture takes an ancient and contemporary look at the Human Soul. The Inner Life of humankind is one of the most mysterious aspects of life, and the world's greatest thinkers have been observing and studying this since the beginning of time.

One of the persistent questions is whether or not we are a body with a soul, or a soul that has a body. Was the soul pre-existing and then entered an otherwise empty body? Is the soul eternal and therefore survives death, perhaps many times?
While many of these questions are difficult to solve, Mr. Hall makes clear that there is a difference between our objective (body) lives and our subjective experiences (psyche, soul, inner life), even as we experience both at the same time.

Wow….what a fantastic lecture…one of the best EVER….so glad that I found them….when my wife died horribly in front of me at 20, to say I was lost is an understatement….i found The Philosophical Research Society in L.A. and decided to go in….it change my life forever, bought countless books, was lucky enough to be allowed to go into private areas to read even more awsome books….and now several decades later, I find his lectures here on UA-cam …..what a great thing, and a great moment in life to have access to this ancient and eternal knowledge …..it has been the foundation of my life and I can never thank him enough…….

I find it fascinating that M.P. Hall wrote his legendary lectures, books and pamphlets before becoming a Free and Accepted Mason, considering that he understood the deepest Masonic symbolic teachings that many lifelong Mason's didn't and probably still do not comprehend.
There is speculation that this is why Mr. Hall waited so long to become initiated in the Brotherhood. It is unconfirmed, but his own writings hint at the sad state of Freemasonry in the early 20th century, and that he felt the old allegories and symbols needed to be revived from obscurity. If he had entered at an early age, he would not have been able (by oath) to speak and write openly about them.

MPH didn't deserve what happened to him in the end. His widow especially didn't deserve the way it went after his death. Very sad, I was extremely surprised when I heard of it all you just wouldn't have guessed it being MPH and all.
Many of Mr. Hall's rare alchemy books were sold to the Getty Museum to pay for the lawsuits that followed. Fortunately, the PRS and library are still in operation, as well as his extensive catalog of books and lectures.

I'm not convinced we really have a soul. I see it more like divisions of divisions almost like photons being emitted from the sun. In a way we do have a soul, only as a byproduct of how God gave us free will. That's an interesting story. However, if we have a soul, it is only in the lower dimensions and in the dimension of one there is only God and nothing else.

I enjoy all Manly Hall's lectures. But there seems to have been a rather stodgy meme at that time regarding the verbal deliverance of such presentations. Nowadays the same information would be presented with a much more casual conversational style. This older stodgy style is not unique at all to Manly but seems to have been the norm at his time. As a pop cultural reference, Don Knotts, in his many acting roles as the perpetually anxious but well meaning common man, would often parody this stodgy style when asked to instruct others in his films. So it isn't just my imagination. Very clever of him. The problem of this stodgy style is that it is off-putting to the young. That is when it becomes a problem even though the information is excellent.
