Very cool - I actually just love the marble look in the beginning too.. If you want to capture that for a background you can place the cardstock onto it then scrape off the excess shaving cream
Yes-I’ve done that technique many times-this was an extra step to build on that! ❤️
Lo faccio su tessuti ..anche seta
Molto bello
Love your idea, this is the first shaving cream technique I actually like enough to emulate!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much, Rene! Have fun creating!!
Thank you. I have used shaving cream technique and had lots of fun with it, but never thought to use a stencil. Will be trying it soon.
I love that it is a totally new and different way to play with this "oldie" technique
This brings back memories. Use to work with children under 5ys and we did this with them. Only used kids paints, they loved it. Use to lay paper on top to pull prints off. Guarantee by the end their hands would be in it. Great fun.
So fun!!!
Love it all
Cards are amazing
Thank you
I love the Thanks card the best, but they are all special😊❤
Love the Thanks card the best ❤️
Thank you Diana!
Love them all, but the snowflake was awesome for sure
Thanks so much, Rayetta! So glad you liked my projects!
Awesome! I could see doing this on a cake with whipped cream and food coloring
Yes--so much fun!!
Watched the replay loved the snowflake card
Thanks, Crystal!!
I wouldn't want my credit card out where everyone can see it. 😬😬😬😬😬 But great work! I loved them all.
It is a used up gift card--I am not crazy! LOL!
Try shaving cream in a small cup and put some dishwashing liquid and paint for color. Mix and then blow bubbles over your paper. It will overflow onto your paper. When it dries it is beautiful.
that is a great technique!
Loved all the cards, the Enjoy stands out.
Thanks so much--I really like that one, Too!
Shaving-cream stencils, pretty cool. Video with full debit card number and CCV number fully visible - Priceless.
love the technique
Thanks so much, Susan! Hope you'll give it a try!
Hi, Dena. I like the "You are one of a kind" the best. All are beautiful, but that one does it for me.
These are great, Dena! Thank you for sharing this technique and beautiful cards!
Thanks so much, Beth! So glad you liked this technique!
Thank you for sharing this. They've I'll be so nice for Valentines.
Great idea!! :)
Fun technique. I love the use of the stylist on the take your pick tool. My favorite card is the snowflake card!
Thanks so much, Bonnie!
Wow. Nice.
Thank you!
Very pretty and cool
Hello everyone! I really enjoyed learning this technique. Thank you! 🌺🌸
**Tip: I use my reverse tweezers when I emboss (I believe that’s what they are called) to hold my card stock so that I will not burn my fingers. I’m certain most crafters already do this, but I thought I would throw it out there for those that didn’t know.
Great tip, Tina! Thanks for sharing!
Nice cards! I like the snowflake card the best. But they are all pretty.
Thanks so much, Debbie!
Looks fun to try. I like the card ideas.
Give it a try--it is super fun!!
I learned this (without stencils) many, many years ago (probably 15 or more).
My crafting friend and I made so many backgrounds that it literally lasted us for years!!! I will have to do it with the stencils this evening and make some backgrounds to have on hand
YES--me, too! I have not done this until now for YEARS! I love the new take on an old trick! :) Have fun!!
Love the way you work that technique, with the masks, very pretty. I tried it several years ago and it wasn't as pretty, thanks again for your creativity inspiration.
I had done this A LONG time ago, too, but a little different and I found this method worked really well! Give it a try!
The snowflake card is beautiful!
Thanks so much, Beth! I love that one, too!
Great technique Dena Thankyou for sharing. All the cards are pretty... the pink one and the snowflake one are my favourites. 🙂
Thanks so much, Julie!
LOVE THIS IS COOL
THanks so much, Lynn!
My fav is the enjoy card. I like the different twist on the old technique!
Thanks so much, Joy!
Great cards Dena! Love how you used the shaving cream!
Thanks so much, Cheri!
Pretty! I like the enjoy card the best and then the snowflake card.
Thank you Wendy! I love that Enjoy one, too!
You make it look so easy & beautiful.
You should try it, Martha! It really is pretty easy--and not much skill required! LOL!
This was amazing, I've never seen this before 🤗💜
Give it a try! It is really fun!
These are great cards. I think my favorite is the Enjoy card with the bow. I love the shaving cream technique. It's so easy but gives you such a different look. Thanks for sharing!! Happy New Year!

Snowflake one is definitely fav!!
Thanks so much, Nicole!
Love it
Thanks so much, Mary!
I love this technique . Have never seen it. I can't wait to try it.....mess and all. I love the colors of the snowflake. Snowflakes are always special. But I also really liked the Enjoy card. Very pretty!
It was new to me, too! It was fun to get messy!
First time I’ve seen this technique- LOVE IT! 👍⭐️ Going to have to try this. Thanks for sharing! 🎉🎊
You are so welcome--Have fun playing!!
I keep waiting for you to dip your sleeve into the shaving cream. Lol Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
LOL! ;)
What a great technique.
Thanks--give it a try!! :)
I like the enjoy card but they are all lovely!
Thanks so much, Joan!
Beautiful technique and cards, thanks for sharing it Dena.
Thanks so much, Tania!
Love this technique I’m going to try it out soon!
Have fun!! It was pretty cool to create these cards!!
I'm the same as you...I don't like mess...🤭...I have had my shaving cream months and not used it but today I am thanks to you 👏....I don't think I will work it as much as you did...( preference) I would prefer to see the different colours more separated.....thanks for your tips and tricks...Jane North Wales UK 🇬🇧
You are so welcome, Jane! :)
Thanks Dena!!! Love the idea with stencils. Was going to make some marble papers for a RAK this weekend. will include some stencils too.
Woo Hoo! Have fun!
Oh wow!!! fantastic loved all card's thanks Dena. Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄 🎅
Thanks so much, Carol! So glad you like them!
What happens with the shaving cream on the card after spreading it? Does it dry up or do you remove it?
Was wondering as well
It seems to evaporate completely
@@TheCreativityCave so, to be clear, there’s no texture left, just the ink is left behind?
@@kristinagoodwin805 correct. I suppose if you left a thicker film after scraping, you could end up with something, but none of mine had any texture at the end.
I have used shaving cream before, but not quite this way. Really fun video. New subscriber.
Awesome! Welcome, Dee Dee! So glad you found me! Thanks for subscribing!
hi there!
the way i had learned and have done this it to put a pile of the shaving cream on a plastic plate, add some reinker drops and gently swirl it around.
then you would put your card layer face down into it (pushing only about 1/3 of the way into the pile) and then lift it up. not leaving it in the shaving cream for very long.
then wipe off the shaving cream and you have a swirly ink design on the card stock.
i have a question about the way you are doing it.
you use the shaving cream through a stencil and you don't wipe off the shaving cream from the card layer.
what happens to the shaving cream? does it go hard like a paste or absorb into the card layer so it is not long a texture on the card front?
i am very curious!
i want to try this but i need to know what to expect! lol i'm just not that daring!
thanks again for a great video! its always nice to be reminded of things you learned way back but no longer do!
merry christmas to you and yours!
That was my question, too! (If the shaving cream left a texture from the stencil)
@@MrsTomJordan did you find out the answer?
i don't usually read through the other comments so if it is in there i would not have seen it....
Hi Sheryl, If you watched the end of the video, I show the cards after they are dryed. I know the shaving cream technique you describe--this is simply a slightly different way of doing it. The stenciling process removes most of the ink and shaving cream as I show in the video. Techniques like this are ones you probably just need to try to get a feel for! :)
@@TheCreativityCave hey there! thanks for answering. i did watch the video to the end and i just watched it again in its entirety just now.
i see the technique looks smooth in the finished product but i am just having trouble with the in between steps! lol
forgive me! so you said the process removes most of the ink and shaving cream. so there is still some on the paper? i guess i am just wondering if you had to wipe off the remaining or did it just evaporate.
anyway, i think i will try it this way and find out for myself.
thanks again for posting the video...
Did you just leave it to dry or speed up the drying process and does it leave a residue from the shaving cream ? Thank you nice cards
I used my heat gun to speed it up--it seems to pretty much evaporate--leaving the ink behind!
Love this. But I would havecturned the polkadot label vertical, sob there would be more shaving crm dots showing.
That sounds like a great idea--you should definitely try that!
Wondering how this would work on wood. I love the result.
Hmmm--I am not sure--maybe fine with a proper base coat and top coat.
Aww kinda gutted you didn't just put your cardstock on top of the marbled, it was so pretty! But your cards are very lovely all the same 😊
Thanks, Roni--I was trying to show a new take on the technique with the stencil! :)
@@TheCreativityCave yeah and it was a great technique loved it, but where I got confused was when you started I thought you were going to get the marbled affect thro the stencil.
I like the first colour combinations. The trick is not to overdo it, like some people do. Not saying you've overdone it, but I think you could have stopped a couple of swells before you did. And that's not a criticism, they're just nice colours.
Thanks!
you could also just lay your card into the shaving foam, press very lightly and lift off, count to 5 then scrape off the foam.
Right--that is the basic shaving cream technique--this is a way you can add the stencil detail! :)
Bonsoir, pourriez vous me dire si il faut laisser sécher la mousse à raser sur la carte avant de l’enlever s’il vous plaît ?
Did you use watercolor cardstock or just normal cardstock. Great tips thank you
Do you think this technique would work with alcohol inks? :)
That is a great question! I am not positive as I have not tried it, but I suspect it would. I would try a dab of the shaving cream to see if there is any reaction with the alcohol ink first.
Awesome I would never have thought to use shaving cream. Did you use water color paper for this?
Nope--just regular white cardstock!
Hi, great cards! Do you think cool whip would work?I have fragrance sensitive to shave cream. Thank you.
No-the sugar in cool whip would cause lots of problems (you don’t want moldy cards!) I would have to believe there is a fragrance free version, or else work on this project outdoors.
I recently went shopping for unscented mens’ antiperspirant and discovered THERE’S NO SUCH THING! I was in shock! Men apparently require their antiperspirants to have scent. I’m telling you this because now that I know that I suspect there’s prolly not unscented shaving cream, either.
(Though WHY companies scent products meant for our faces, I have NO clue! I’m getting itchy just imagining all the sensitivities out there that I may end up with hives. 😰)
Just know before going out shopping that this could potentially be an unfulfilling trip.
Besides the mold problem, there’s fat in that stuff that’d make greasy marks on the paper. 😕 You know what you might try is mousse. (You know: for your hair.) That may work in lace of shaving cream. Good luck finding an unscented one, though; companies seem to feel scent is required in most toiletries. 😞
Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment.
This is the first time I've seen someone use what's called embossed? I love it. Where do I go to buy it and what all can I use it for? I just love your ideas.
Hi Cindy! All the details (including links to shop my online store) are here: www.thecreativitycave.com/my_weblog/2021/12/totally-techniques-blog-hop-shaving-cream-stencil-technique.html
Beautiful. Does the shaving cream leave a raised up dimensional texture to the stenciled portion ?
No--it seems to evaporate completely.
I like your take on this technique, & how little you need to create the backgrounds. I've only ever seen it used with a Roasting Tin, or a new Car litter tray. I can't help but wonder how much would be wasted doing it that way. I love how they have come out. I would be hard pressed to say which colours I liked besr.
Is there anything else you can use instead of the re-inkers for the colour, if you don't have any?
Thank you for sharing the technique. Being an Asthmatic I was wondering how much smell there is or if they make a totally knackered one? I feel that this would be something I would look is to have a go at. Especially now I know I wouldn't have to wastemuch.
Hi Nona, I don't know what knackered means, but I have no idea about a "low smell" version of the shaving cream. I literally pulled it from my husband's cabinet! LOL! As for coloring, as a stamper, the reinkers are what I have--but I suspect it would work with watercolors--I just have never tried that.
@@TheCreativityCaveI am so sorry. This will teach me to read what I have written in future. Knackered means totally wiped out, or shattered from doing too much. But it should have said unscented (shaving foam) 😂
I have several ink pads but they don't have re-inkers to go with them. I don't have the tubes of Watercolours but have some Acrylic paints left over from an attempt at Acrylic pouring. So I might try those to see if they work x
WOW, amazing! So the shaving cream design dries and can be used to make the cards right after?
It takes a few minutes, but yes!!
Does the shaving cream take long to dry with the stencil
Maybe 5-10 min, depending on how dry your conditions are.
What about using alcohol inks in the shaving cream would that work?
I have not tried it so I am not sure how they would react with the shaving cream.
How long does it take to dry ..
5-10 min. depending on your climate :)
Is there a reason you heat embossed from the back?
It helps keep the paper flat
Could this be done on fabric
I've never used the stencil technique this before so I have a question. The old way was to lay the cardstock right on the shaving cream (we used glossy cardstock) and then scrape off the excess. We were left with the colored pattern in the glossy cardstock and it was very smooth and no need to dry it. With the stencil, you have raised areas as if you were using embossing paste. What do they look like after they're dried? Do they get powdery and rub off? Just wondering.
As I show towards the end of this video, it just seems to evaporate. There isn’t actually any residue left behind.
@@TheCreativityCave I'm surprised. I thought for sure there would be some sort of bump there after it dried.
Wouldn’t this flake off after it dries??
It really evaporates leaving only the ink behind!
You should definitely Hide your CC number, I hope you don't have Crazy charges after people watch this Video!!!
I am not crazy--this is an already used up gift card! NO worries!
Where did you get the mesh?
Hmmm-the mesh? You mean the ribbon? It is available in my online store-link can be found here: www.thecreativitycave.com/my_weblog/2021/12/totally-techniques-blog-hop-shaving-cream-stencil-technique.html
How long does it take to completely dry up? Asking, because a bit impatient, when doing such a cool technique 😂
reall just a few minutes!
❤🙏✌👍♥️
Perhaps not mix the colors so much on the shave cream since they mix on the card
I saw this technique done by another demonstrator. She wiped the shave cream off the card stock after removing the mask. Did you do that, or leave it?
I did not--I left it to dry--I would think that would cause the colors to smear outside the design of the stencil.
Pity you didn't turn the stencil over & press onto a clean sheet of paper to get the pattern in reverse.
The snow flake
Thanks! :)
Not a good idea to use your credit card for a tutorial on the internet
As I mentioned---it is an already used gift card--I am certainly never going to share an active card number! Give me a little credit! :)
@@TheCreativityCave I apologize. I missed that you were aware. I often make simple mistakes and was hoping to keep you from trouble. I did not intend to offend.
Some reason this popped up while scrolling and I gotta ask, how do what?
How do learn english? 🤣
Come on, presentation of how you write your video title is the easiest part of making a video.
Thanks so much for pointing out my mistake tired mama! You sure are a lovely human being! I suppose commenting from the cheap seats is probably the easiest part of watching a video! And can it be assumed you’ve never had a type-o anywhere, anytime? I sure hope you loved my video, but I’m guessing you didn’t even watch it!
