- When a poet and composer sings his own creations it has a special aesthetic value! Today on my father's 94th birth anniversary I'm sharing this wonderful rare footage of him performing in New Orleans, USA in 1991. My pranaam to my father!
আমার বিস্ময় লাগে এই ভেবে একটা জাতি একশ বছরের অধিক সময় ধরে শিক্ষা সংস্কৃতি, ধর্ম রাজনীতি, ইতিহাস, ঐতিহ্য, সংগীত, শিল্প কলা সর্বক্ষেত্রে শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব অক্ষুন্ন রেখেছিল। সেই জাতি আজ অন্ধকারের পন্কিল আবর্তে ক্রমশঃ নিমজ্জমান।

এটাই দুঃখ যে বাঙালী আজ নিজেদের আনন্দ অনুষ্ঠানে ভাঙরা বাজিয়ে নাচে,কিন্তু কোনো পাঞ্জাবী কে দেখবেন না, রবীন্দ্র সংগীত বা বাংলা গান শুনতে।।এই জন্যই রবি ঠাকুর বলেছিলেন আত্মবিস্মৃতির জাত হল বাঙালী।।যারা খুব সহজেই নিজেরদের দামী জিনিস টা ভুলে অন্যের সস্তা জিনিসের দিকে ছোটে।

He was the first ever north indian who became an icon in kerala in the film industry!!! Not just among composers... But in the indian film industry!!
His genius was such that even the most expensive film in malayalam then, Chemeen was given to him!!
He bought new type of orchestration to malayalam which was widely celebrated in Kerala...
We Keralites owe a lot to this legend
Salil Chowdhury is not a North Indian. He's a quintessential Bengali genius who composed music for whole of India.
জীবনে গুরুর পা দুটি ছুঁতে পেলে জীবন ধন্য হয়ে যেত। অন্তর থেকে শ্রদ্ধা আর আন্তরিক ভালোবাসা ছাড়া জানানোর কিছু নেই। কান্না, আনন্দ সব অনুভূতি একসাথে হয় যখন এই ভদ্রলোককে শুনি।

notice at first ,when Salil babu was recalling the names of all the legendary singers who sang for him, he started with Hemanta Mukherjee's name and that too, salil babu addressed only him as 'hemanta da' ,and no one else.. this is the respect salil babu had for hemanta babu.. this is one of the reasons why the legendary salil-hemanta combination is still regarded as the greatest composer-singer combination of all time..

Thanks to Antara for sharing this video. My most favourite music director. I can not forget my " 'কিশোর বযসে'র" nostalgia. This record came out in 78 rpm first when my heart wrenched listening to this song in particular, as also all other songs with very special musical arrangements sung by Hemanta Babu, your mother and all others. Shri SalilDa did not get his due in Bollywood or even in Tollywood, nor from the Govts.

This is like a dream come true, to see one of my greatest musical idols singing one of his great compositions!! I think Salilda was a very able singer himself - his rendition of "ami ashche" I heard also on your channel was outstanding. Its a musical loss :( But then. we have his immortal compositions to cherish. That should suffice a lifetime. Thank you so much for sharing. I love your songs for your father as well. I also recall the special CD released where you had sung your father's compositions in Hindi. I had bought it and enjoyed it immensely and continue to do so now. "jo geet kabhi maine likhe the" is a favorite.

1981 সালে বার্ণপুরে ওনার অনুষ্ঠান শোনার সৌভাগ্য হয়েছিল,ওনার নিজের গলায় সফত কবিতাটা শুনেছিলাম তখন যেনো একটা পিন পড়লেও শব্দ পাওয়া যাবে,দারুন লেগেছিল সেই আবৃতিটা,সঙ্গে শবিতা চৌধুরী,অন্তরা,সঞ্চারী,স্বপন বসু এবং দেবজ্যোতি মিশ্র,ওনার লেখা গান গুলো এখনও মনকে নাড়া দেয়,একটু চুপ করে শোনো গানটার কথা সত্যিই ভোলার নয়।
