I have a problem, all the people that I’ve worked with are family friends since I make do freelancing for them. And we get by with our family business. Would family being as reference be alright, given the situation?
As for my professors back when I was in College, they’re busy Ambassadors 😅 I’m not so sure if they’d be available to write.

I really wish they would give more information regarding the letter of reference, Should the letter of reference be handwritten or typed? Also should there be a signature, I can imagine that it should be handwritten and signed but none of that was specified🙈

@justmedonna Hi po! Does a US Embassy English Fellow teacher count? We worked with an American fellow from Fullbright sponsored by the US Embassy...not technically a supervisor but we had team teaching together. I have one from supervising teacher in Vietnam during our teaching internship back in college and another letter from our dean of graduate school who used to be my professor in college (same school where i teach now).
Hello po :) I believe po, the two coming from your previous school are fine but if you can find a boss/ supervisor from your previous or current employment, it is better po, he/she can do one of your letters. With regard to your fellow teacher from US embassy, that I am not sure po because what I know is reference letter should be from a higher-up. You may also ask po other old JET participants kasi po when I asked my co-JETS 2020 regarding this question before, none of them passed a letter of recommendation from a co-teacher or co-staff, all of us I believe submitted letters from old mentors, professors, principals, supervisors, boss, etc

Hello po. Pwede po kaya if both ng reference letter ko ay coming sa supervisor and Line trainer ko sa BPO company na pinag ttrabahuhan ko atm? Since di naman inispecify sa rules ng jet na dapat 1 from the academe or sa college na pinag attendan at 1 sa professional work place. Ano po sa tingin nyo po? Pahirapan kase kumuha sa alma matter ko although wala naman ako bad reputation duon 😅.

References should be academic or professional (from a professor, advisor or supervisor). If you are submitting a recommendation letter written in Japanese, you must attach an appropriate/approximate English translation with it.

I think so po, initially I also thought of asking my previous professor but she had no time It would also be better teacher if your other LOR would be made by someone from your previous or current workplace (a boss,supervisor,coordinator,or also mentor) 😊

Hi po, I have one question. The people I am planning to ask for a recommendation letter po are my dept. heads here in my current school. However, English is not their first language and I'm planning to just make my own format na checklist checklist lang po or fill in blanks. Is that acceptable po? Hi, just to ask lang po if yearly po ba sila nagpapalit ng instruction how this referral letter must be submitted? Base sa maga nababasa ko po, some just send it in sealed envelope while others compiled together with other documents.

Is it okay to submit a scanned copy of reference letter? Yung referee ko po, ang ginawa nya pinrint nya ung letter, pirma, then scan, then yun po yung sinend nya sakin thru email. Yung orig. copy is hindi pa po dumarating sakin, from Thailand pa po kasi, so probably baka hindi sya umabot on time.

Need po ba contact info ng nagsulat ng LOR? Wala po kasing nalagay nung nareceive ko po.
wala pong specific instructions po regarding this ma'am. However, a usual LOR has contact info supposed to be for background checking purposes :) Is there any way you can request another one which has contact info? If none po, maybe that may do since there are no specific instructions :)

I think so because he still has higher position than you, what I mean is he is still your tutor/teacher 🙂
Hi, I am currently teaching online in a Chinese company but I'm not sure if I can ask for letter of reference from my supervisor since I'm still employed. There are some rules and policies in the company that applying to another ESL jobs is prohibited which worries me. That's why I'm thinking of asking my professor in college which I graduated like 5 years ago and from my former supervisor from 4 years ago and how to get the original copy from them since we are in pandemic right now?
Hi :) In the Philippines, applicants are allowed to produce and submit the ecopy of the recommendation letters coming from their referees. Once you are able to pass the screening, you will then be required to pass the original recommendation letters from your referees. :) Yes, former prof in college and your previous sup can write these letters for you :) best of luck teacher :)

Did you have to include the contact numbers of references?
I am not sure if my referees included their contact numbers on their letters po 😊 but you can request them to write po so their letters would be more reliable in case the embassy would verify something on their letters 😊

Include in your comments any information that might assist us in evaluating the applicant’s ability to adjust
and adapt to a foreign culture. Comment specifically on the applicant’s ability to:
a) Teach (including how comfortably they are with public speaking);
b) Show leadership, including their ability to work with people, and in groups;
c) Work, including how they handle pressure or challenging situations;
d) Any career aspirations (you are aware of) that may motivate the applicant to participate in the JET Programme.
IN ONE ENVELOPE,
1 ORIGINAL LETTER, 2 COPIES, in a sealed envelope (for confidentiality)
Do not use clips or staples
Sign across the seal (for security)
Return the sealed envelope to the applicant in time to post the application by Nov. 17, 2006.
DO NOT SEND YOUR REFERENCE TO THE EMBASSY.
PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING CONTACT INFORMATION IN YOUR LETTER:
- Your full name and Title
- The department in which you work
- A telephone number or email address in the event that we need to contact you about your letter
or the applicant.
Finally, please sign the letter (so we can compare the signature on the letter
to the one on the seal of the envelope for security).
