I've noticed with Devil-Loc & Devil-Loc Deluxe (Licensed Version 5.4.1) you get inconsistent results when the crush dial is set between 5-10, regardless of the type of sample you feed into it or any other parameter the plugin is set to. Between 7-9 it will change the phase and amplitude of the signal with undesirable results, producing an inconsistent limiting/gating to the signal. When dialing crush to between 8-10, distortion and saturation dissapears and the signal reduces in amplitude.
While this design may be intentionally modelled around the characteristics of the Shure Level-Loc controller ("Capture the raw and unpredictable nature of the offbeat Level-Loc compressor"), and suitable in the context of sound design, consistent behaviour is important for creating music.
Having discovered these characteristics It renders the plugin practically useless and unpredictable when driven hard. I certainly wouldnt use it on a drum bus or in a parallel chain, yet ironically Soundtoys market Devil-loc around making drums sound big and exciting.
