I was there this day with the red back pack to your right. I got a salmon on shad dart after you left , it was crazy .
Pretty crazy stuff. You just never know. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Hale, it's good to see you on the water again. As a kid in Washington I was never taken Shad fishing but it looks like something I would enjoy. I'm trying to sell the house and move to Arizona and at this time I have no idea about what type of fishing they are doing there. I know I will miss fishing for the Ling Cod and crabbing but I'm not giving away any of my gear. I'll just adapt!!
Good luck to you Gene. I'm sure you'll get into catfish, trout, bass somewhere down south. Lake Powell has some striped bass I know and record Pike. That's on the border of Utah and AZ up north.
Runs starting just in time. Fished that same dock last year and kept hooking a 6ft sturgeon by accident 😂 seems like it’s a favorite spots of theirs to hangout and get in the way lol
Yeah... sturgeon like the shad too. Some die after they spawn and some return back to the ocean. Super fun fish to catch. Thanks for the comment.
The dock with the no fishing sign that everyone ignores haha yeah I’ve been there haha
Yeah...I've seen the sheriff on the boat not even say anything. I think if your mindful of the boats having the right of way you might be okay.
@@BackFishing no lie I was kinda of worried but after seeing so many people n there fishing still I went for it too lol but I was worried didn’t want a ticket for stupid stuff
@@pnw_element9822 I hear ya. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Beautiful- didn’t you know they get to wallmate , we usually get them at Bonnevelle dam , two question Hale ,
Is this the Oregon city ? What setup / lure , weight are you using ?
I have a bunch of videos on shad fishing. Explore them on my channel to get a good feel. This was Oregon City, Jon Strom Park. They have a no fishing sign but lots of people fish there. Fish at your own risk. Clack Park has plenty of bank access. 1/2 to 1 oz pencil lead to a 7 ' leader and then your jig/lure. Carolina style. heres a link: rig.ua-cam.com/video/0dOfvQ9SSjg/v-deo.htmlsi=AUUw1YSHuBqXLxRA GL
@@BackFishing yes I been , saw the sign and I was wondering are we allowed to fish there or not hahahah , thank you so much as always service to others is the rent you pay for the room on earth.
@@mar83wan Trying to get some helpful info out there.
Super nice and entertaining video and very informative, I was wondering why didn’t you create some event and a lot of people can fish … meet and great ….specially sense the season already started.
That's an idea. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
The river is so low!
I'll be there either tomorrow or Monday morning to try.
I think its going to be a big run this year.
They are so fun to catch. GL
Thanks for sharing, BackFishing! I wanted to try out for my first shad in Oregon. May I know the fishing spot?
Best bet is Bonneville Dam, Bradford Island or Robins Island in late May. Oregon City, Willamette River is a start close to the I-205 bridge across Fisherman's Marine. GL
@@BackFishing Thank you BackFishing. Just back from Jon Storm Park. Shad is on fire already!
@@yixia6649 I'm glad you got to check it out.
where is that dock located?? Ive always wanted to try bank fishing for shad on the Willamette!! great video too!
Jon Strom Park or along the bank Clackamette Park, Oregon City.
Hey I Would Love To Learn How To Shad Fish I’m In The Portland Area. Do You Fish Solo?
Fishing should pick up in the Willamette R next 2 weeks. I usually go to Clackamas Park. You'll see people there and during the season you'll see me there. Come out in the evening starting 6 pm to 8pm. Usually most productive.
Niice Thank You Sir!! If I See You I’ll Be Sure To Say What’s Up! I’ll Definitely Be There! Appreciate That
which part of the river is it? how to get here? or what city
Jon Strom Park, Oregon City. As of 6/3 the counts have been lower at the Bonneville therefore fishing has been a bit spotty at the Park. It should improve here soon in the next week or so.
What lure are you using? Also is that the 8’ casting because I can’t find any 9’. Great video though, I live near here and want to give it a try this year.
Also what pound line would you recommend for the line and leader? Seems like they just attack anything 😂
I just used my casting rod because it was brand new. Spinning combo is usually best. 9' is a good length with 2500 - 3000 series reel. 20lb braid and with 1/2 to 1 oz lead wt depending on current. Shad Darts are excellent but you can go to WalMart and get 1/32 size jig head with gold hook cheaper. Explore some of my other shad videos to get a good feel. GL
@@BackFishing Thanks man, good luck with shad run.
@@Slayer-gx1qk Always look forward to it. Thanks
@@Slayer-gx1qk I run 20lb braid and 10lb mono leader. 6lb leader is too weak in case you get snag.
Do Shad run all the way up through Salem, OR or is that too far?
I'm not really sure how far they travel. I'm really curious as well.
Hi I’m new to the area and I was wondering what size is the hook and swevel you use? Also where is that location? I’m in Vancouver Washington and just wanna get on some fish 😂
@@KingKua11 This is the beginning of the shad season. Just go to Bonneville Dam WA side and you will catch them like crazy late May. Here's a link to another video of colors, jigs and swivels used for shad. ua-cam.com/video/0dOfvQ9SSjg/v-deo.htmlsi=AUUw1YSHuBqXLxRA
@@BackFishing mahalo for the help! Hope to see you sometime! I leave to go back to Georgia in July so I hope to get some fish before then!
@@KingKua11 Steamboat landing park in Washougal is closer but best bet, "Garans ball barans" is Bonneville Dam your side of the river. I heard they are catching now. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
