Filleting Halibut, simple and easy to follow from start to finish.

Visiting the SF Bay Area in July. Friends set out on a boat trip while I stayed behind to fish from shore for halibut. I got my limit of halibut but no keepers. Now that it's been a couple years, do you have a preference for the blue weed whacker line or the clear monofilament?

    • @BackFishing

      150 - 200 lb mono for dungeness. Weed wacker has ridges and sometimes difficult to position loops.

    For your leader to the main line, at 15:52, are you using the same weed wacker .065 line as you used for the snare loops? Is that okay to do that or did you use mono filament 100 lbs? Thanks!

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing Місяць тому

      That's just to attach to my main line (weed wacker .065) but now for my loops I prefer 150 lb mono to 200 lb especially for the heavier dungeness. Smaller crabs like targeting blue crabs east coast or red rocks 100 lb would do well.

      Thank you for the answer. That's getting up there for the fish. Just think guessing 10 lb to 15 lbs would be 8 years to 10 years? Probably not the best for harvesting since it starts to build up toxins in their meat especially belly and the head.

    hey, I'm in the SF area as well. question: are birds a strongest indication for a good fishing day more than going early morning and night time? I hear so many rules to be successful. try to go sunrise and sunset only try not to go when its a clear blue sky now I find out birds is very important as well. Thanks for this info. great video

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing 2 місяці тому

      Birds are an indication of bait around the area which draw big fish. Schooling fish salmon/stripers/perch will definitely be attracted to them and may stay around. Early morning is typically good for all fishing in general. Night especially good for stripers.
