      I think we will end up making some knee pads for the tank once it's painted the factory Wineberry to match Barney's original color. Just wouldn't be Barney if it wasn't purple! LOL

      I think it will work great. Just have to set the angle and height just right. Once the rear fender is smoothed out and finalized as a full solo fender with custom plate bracket and tail lights, the line of the whole bike will flow much better. Many plans to sit and noodle out! Thanks for watching.

    Say when you at did the powder coating of the rims you put the new tires on you never mentioned what size tires you use on the front and back. Can I get that information?

    That is the perfect tank for a café racer project.
    A different seat unit and clipons instead of handlebars?
    Maintaining the tank's bottom line parallel to the ground and using it to guide the tail unit?
    Hey, nice to see you back.

    • @RenchRanch
      @RenchRanch  7 років тому +1

      Not sure about going the whole cafe look, maybe a few style points..... just getting ideas now. I have seen cafe'd styled cruisers that have a low slammed hot-rod look. Kinda of the path I am thinking. Since Melly's riding "Sully" the 07 Speedmaster we can do more creative stuff with Barney as it doesn't have to be a totally practical daily rider. Just good times in the garage that's all that matters! Cheers! Hopefully we'll see you soon and can get some ideas at FARO.

    The lines of the tank fit the bike well. What about modding the frame mounts to take the Honda rubber mounts?

    • @RenchRanch
      @RenchRanch  7 років тому

      I don't have to modify the frame or the tank at the front. I think a set of neoprene washers stacked with a modified domed allen screw (or some similar hardware combo) will work as a rubber mount. The back I should be able to fab up a bolt-on adapter bracket that both bolts to the original frame mounts and the CB tank with no mods on either.
      For the fuel tap, Lowbrow customs makes a 22mm to NPT 1/4" adapter nut with teflon washer that just bolts onto the Honda factory tap. Then I can use a straight through Pingle or similar fuel valve.
      So I think this may be an almost bolt-on mod. Lucked out agin on Barney! Cheers!

    If you leave the big tank on don't modify the front fender. It will look too tiny in comparison to the tank.

      We still have Melly's beloved Barney. He's never going anywhere. Due to our garage (built in 1949) having structural issues with the sill and foundation, all the stuff in the garage including all the bikes are in a off-site storage locker. Our garage must be torn down and rebuilt. Due to the whole Covid19 situation we have to wait on permits and the contractors to get cleared until the work can start. So sadly we won't have any new Barney / Moto-Melly videos for a while. The city is really slow issuing the required permits to get the new garage underway. It's basically a replacement structure and we will be reallocating the space to give us more room within the existing footprint. Sorry there hasn't been more content but Covid19 has really messed everything up for 2020 for everyone everywhere. There was a update video this year but that was before we found out about the issues with our garage.
      Thanks for watching! Cheers!

      that's one of the main reasons I live in Missouri you can get a permit that morning and be working on your garage and have that thing done the next day well after the concrete dries anyway we always enjoy watching your videos I've got a few short ones on dirty biker Ed on UA-cam checking in and subscribe and look around and do whatever I wish my video quality was as good as yours apparently know how to edit those things better than me have a great day enjoy the motorcycle. I've been riding for a little over 40 years and had a heart attack last Christmas and it screwed my right leg up so now I'm down to riding at 250cc scooter because I can't get my leg over the motorcycle anymore but we still get after our ride daily and all kinds of weather enjoy

    Hey Mike, great video as usual! By wrapping those pipes, was there any improvements you noticed? We have the same set up but I'm not sure if I want to wrap. Pros and cons?

    • @RenchRanch
      @RenchRanch  7 років тому +1

      We only wrapped Barney's pipes due to their beat up appearance. No other reason really. The bike runs exactly the same with zero noticeable change. The older Rebels have different carbs that the newer CMX250's. IMO the newer Rebs tend to run excessively lean to begin with (probably to meet emissions or something). If you're running the same Emgo 27" Dunstall replica slip-ons we are, and have a newer Rebel, may want to consider re-jetting for a bit richer running. If you use a K&N or similar filter for sure it will need a re-jet. Barney runs fine (as is) once the engine is warm.
      Pros of wrapping, it looks cool and can hide a dented, scratched, and stained set of old header pipes. Can really dress up crappy exhaust pipes or ugly welds on a custom setup.
      Cons of wrapping, it takes time and can be difficult, the wrap can be expensive if you use the DEI Titanium as we did, Stainless zip-ties suck so use stainless hose clamps.
      Probably a few more but on a Rebel 250, it just doesn't generate enough EGT (exhaust gas temp) for the wrap to really impact the running of the engine. Maybe if you dyno tested it you could see some minor difference but by the seat of the pants there is none I can tell. Thanks for watching!

      Michael Rench We have the same exact Wineberry '87s. That's why I was curious about the wrap. Wasn't 100% sure if there would be any improvements with the single barrel carb. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you 3 again soon! Peace Brother...

    • @RenchRanch
      @RenchRanch  7 років тому

      Cool! Hey as a fellow Wineberry Reb's owner, you should check this out. Dupli-Color has an almost dead ringer for the factory Honda Wineberry. Depending on if you use a black or sliver base / primer the end result is an extremely close rattle can match. (amazon link below) Some 2K rattle can clear and a ver close to factory paint job can be done on the cheap.

      Put a ton of research into that. Barney's going back to original Wineberry no matter what we mod. Thanks for watching, ride safe!

    What tanks fit the rebel?

    • @STho205
      @STho205 5 років тому

      The Nighthawk 250 fits perfectly (sister bike). 4.5 gallons. Isn't the rebel tank smaller capacity? Similar look, but less chopperesque. Most of the 70s CB tanks will fit with mods. The CB200 and CB350 tank will work. Those need flush and lining. They're typically rusty and don't handle modern fuel well.
