  • Indian philosophy were established by great preceptors from time immemorial to enable their students to manifest the highest ethical and spiritual values in their lives.
The speaker Swami Tattwamayananda is the minister of the Vedanta Society of Northern California, San Francisco. In interpreting the doctrines of particular schools of thought, he has attempted to keep in touch with their respective foundational texts in Sanskrit or, in dealing with the Buddhist schools, with the texts in Pali.
In phase 1, he will be discussing the different schools of Vedanta (one of the ‘Āstika Darśana’s) beginning with Advaita, to be followed by the schools of Ramanuja, Madhva, Vallabha, Nimbarka, Baladeva, and others.
This series is hosted by the Stanford Hindu Students Association and being cross-posted on Vedanta Society of New York's UA-cam channel.

    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

I read that Swami Vivekananda said that if he was given the option of a book of wisdom or money when/if he was a poor man, he would ask for the money. He was quite practical. If, however, when one is in the Divine Presence one feels the Presence enveloping one, then naturally the soul will surrender & not even ask for knowledge. There would be trust. 🙏🏼🌻

But one might ask, why didn’t he attend to more practical teachings, including stages of development? Just telling people, “you are divine,” doesn’t make them so.
There are, I’ve always believed, two very good reasons for this insistence, rather than an insistence on the details of practice. One, a powerful soul like Vivekananda works on a deeper level than what we see: he had the power to awaken that idea in the collective consciousness, and for those who have eyes to see, it is awakening around the world in the hearts of individuals and groups.
