A company I knew of had a few employees reaching their 10 year mark with said company.
Once they reached this milestone they were to be given a 3rd week of paid vacation.
Doesnt sound like much but they all looked forward to it.
Just prior to hitting this mark this company the CEO withdrew the 10 year/3 weeks vacation from the company handbook.
This is the new model of employer in the 21st century.

The problem isn’t corporations. Humans are naturally greedy just like politicians. The greediest make it to top leadership roles in business and government and for that matter the military haha.
The main issue is the price of money. The price of money dictates human action and choice. 50-100 years ago you saved to buy a house or car. Today you can’t buy a house without a mortgage. Cheap money and cheap mortgages made it so it’s cheaper to buy a house per month basically. It’s more expensive technically over thirty years with interest but as the government devalued the money and inflation makes paying back interest cheaper.
The problem is wages also go up or trend below inflation especially if you’re not in the college or hospital cartel which seems to keep their prices high while inflation falls elsewhere over time. People no longer buy houses! They buy payments or time in the house especially as the government and banks expects people to refinance when they cut interest rates. The federal reserve is the key issue. It kept rates low after the dotcom bust inflating real estate. Then the last decade they kept rates low and then added 9 trillion to its balance sheet. The federal reserve owns 2.4 trillion in mortgages. Think of that. The federal reserve is the reason we have endless wars. At least on gold back in the day the governments would call for peace or a few decades of peace. The U.S. has always been at war since ww2 basically. The treasury makes the fed print but the federal reserve basically says okay while pretending to be independent. It is technically a private bank paying 6% interest to private owners, but then it pays 90% tax on its profits to the treasury.

I'd never want to go to a surgeon in a communist or completely socialized country. If you think altruism is enough for people to strive to be the best at what they do you're dreaming. As long as we are going to live in a civilization, competition is the best way to get the best for people. I'm sure you're a reader, so if you think we aren't living in the best time in history I'd recommend Better Angels of Our Nature.
