Having owned and still have an axd 130 t5 for five years I can't see a can of anything working on it. I took my turbo off once and cleaned the vanes manually, replaced and it was awful. So next time I replaced the turbo as it was such a mare to get at that I never wanted to have to go near it again. I do like the old (05) van however if anyone asks me about owning one and boy do people get silly over these things, kinda like Land Rover Defenders my advice would be to try and find a nice T4 built better in every way and if you have the turbo 5 cylinder can go like stink. Lovely vehicle but not worth the trouble imo 😆

ZX1 Extralube in your fuel. It's a micro lubricant which pushes its way through to metal parts. It'll also go in your oils and coolant. Speak to the company if you're interested. They're very helpful. I've had great results with it. Good channel!! 👍

On the same process, I’ve tried using Revive turbo cleaner, a double dose. Drives much better afterwards, power and acceleration in gears up to three, but still get overboost into limp mode in fourth and fifth uphill. Might try the Wynns EGR cleaner spray for the miracle. If it doesn’t get better, next on list is check all the vacuum in all hoses and if there’s no leaks check the intercooler. After that it’ll be removing the EGR for a proper wire brush clean.

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this @Ian Reed ? If so, what was it? (My lad has now got a T5 - axd engine and this is happening to his vehicle). Cheers.

@@arfonw123 hi, yes I did. Unfortunately it was a fully clogged up turbo, I didn’t have the time or skill to take it out and clean it myself so had a new one put in by my local VW garage for £1500 parts and labour. I had fully cleaned the EGR and the vacuum was fine but the intercooler had a leak, replaced that too another £300. Now my camper drives like a new motor again. Bit expensive but it’s a nice camper so was worth it to me.

@@ianseaweed Thanks for this. The turbo in his van has been replaced 6 years ago and has done about 22,000 miles since. So, apart from the turbo - we're down to broken intercooler (can't see any leaks, possible turbo pipe leaks, manifold cracking and all the usual sensors MAF and N95 etc. Just don't want to chuck money at it and want to try and get it fixed 1st time! I'm no mechanic either, but will have a go for money reasons. Cheers anywhow. 👍

So the turbo cleaner didn't actually work based on it still having over boost problems and then being diagnosed as fully clogged

Get the EGR mapped out at a tuning shop. Same with the DPF if your van has one. Cured my overboost for about 350 quid. Van goes much better after it

I *love* this, all the 'woo' magic liquids and BS cures, they're amazing and cost more than doing the job properly because you'll need to anyway.
FWIW, worked in an engine lubricant research lab for a *MAJOR* manufacturer of household name engine lubricants.

Dont forget to change the gearbox oil and filter ,it could be this that is causing the stalling.

Hi Ya with that mileage and suspect no maintenance
I’d put Wynns DPF Cleaner about £10 simply pour into fuel tank with about 40 litres in it
And drive ,,,Cleared my EGR Valve and DPF I used both cleaners 1st EGR then the DPF If you have one
Sorted I Got a really improved acceleration Smoother Throttle response and More MPG
    Total cost £20ish
Good Luck hope it works or you as it did Mine

change the gearbox oil, needs to be clean oil for it to work properly the box needs changing about every 60k oil for those is 120.
so as you say maintenance required quite possibly people dont change gearbox oil for some reason.
    needs changing like engine oil.

When I researched t5s to buy one I found out that the auto boxes are 'sealed for life' by VW, so they never get serviced.

    • @jamesgriffiths3057
      @jamesgriffiths3057 2 роки тому +1

@@doctorsatansrobot I have serviced my mates the oil is 120 quid from vw/tps and the filter. plus filter was 20 I think.
they say that about all vag boxes
      means 100k miles.
has a sum plug and a plastic level plug which u remove to drain.
and reinsert the plastic piece for the oil level.
my mates t5 shuttle had done 250k at that point.
I have changed the oil on several octavia gearboxes. and their sealed for life not !
      I'd do it 60 to 100k
auto boxes need clean oil to work.
they don't expect people to keep cars for that long so sealed for life means 3 to 5 years or 100k in the real world.
ring vw & or tps they sell the oil and filters for them.

The only treatment I have used on vag TDi with sticky vanes with success was the product from Forte. I always put a dose of redex in with a tank of fuel once a month.
The gearbox holds the majority of its oil in the torque converter, if you google gearbox flush for Volvos you will see a method of pumping and filling a couple of litres at a time, the same can be done with that box via the hoses that run to the gearbox cooler.
Your divers door sounds like it needs greasing - pop the plastic cap off the barrel that runs against the toothed quadrant, pack in grease and leave grease proud so when putting the cap back on it will force the grease down. If it is very dry, use a slurry of wd40 and grease initially, then go back with grease a bit later once it has started to move.

Good stuff that EGR cleaner. Cheap easy fix.
I'm not keen on that engine - really noisy even for a diesel.
As for the AT, I bet nobody has ever done any fluid replacement and its too late now.

Had same problem on mk4 jetta. The actuator rusted out then vanes were getting stuck causing limp mode. Sea foam and the like can work but I personally would say taking everything apart and manual cleaning is the best way to go if you want worry free operation.

    • @rhiantaylor3446

Should be able to reach the turbo vane actuator and wiggle it to check for stickiness. If it is indeed the vanes you need to unstick, the Mr Muscle approach requires you to put the chemical agent in from the exhaust side rather than the inlet to reach the effected part.

I even asked a garage mechanic and he said he gets more VW Transporters in for repairs than any other van and no way would he buy one, not reliable enough.

Parrafin and 2 stroke oil is what you use .NOTHING else. 1 litre of paraffin per tank and about a wine glass of 2 stroke oil. Then do an "italian tune up" and the engine will be pukka
