If manly wasn't gonna comment on the fish tank, I was. Angelfish and cardinal tetras are a good choice to have together, a classic. They can work with the usually snappy and territorial angels if you've got enough hiding places and plants. The tank itself seems to be decently landscaped, if a touch sparse for my tastes. It's the right size for a school of tetras and angels, nice and big, possibly a 50 or 75 gallon from the scale of it, plenty of fish space to school and swim. This game designer knows their fish, I'll give them that! Love to see a game that has correct takes on aquariums and tanks. It's properly stocked, the fish in game behave naturally and exhibit natural behaviors instead of loop swimming (my nemesis), and I feel I could watch it for an hour. Oh, and the rest of the game is pretty cool too, I guess. It's no aquarium, but it'll do.

moral of the story: don't live in a house with this many windows it gives stalkers an easy view of you and where you are, like come on at least close the curtains
Even if you live up high where people can't see from their own rooftops, it's still not the safest to leave windows open. The higher up you live, the more trapped you can be if fire safety exits aren't available somehow
The stalker is probably the ex in my opinion. He was the one to give the statue and had access to the appartment to put together the back alley computer set up. I think after they divorced he still was obsessed with her and took to forums (under a pseudonym) and illegally filming to further his obsession. Then when he couldn't continue to gain both attention and money from filming her after she had plastic surgery, he flew into a rage and rallied people online to torment her. Eventually either she escapes, or (more likely with the elevator broken) he kills her. This also explains how the stalker could get into the penthouse. He was known by the door.. guards? people? or had an old key.
Wait, what if it’s Drew? Gin did mention the clock was gifted to her by Drew and she did mention he was possessive. But the statue was also given to her by her ex so..maybe it could even be both?
I think she was genuinely being stalked. But in combination with the meds and stress, she subconsciously picked up she was in danger and suffered hallucinations. She shouldve called the cops, she shouldve responded to her manager to call the cops (or anything) so I kind of wish the phone went missing sooner. It just doesnt make sense that she wouldnt do something about someone taking pictures of her and throwing bricks in her window. Kind of aggravating, really! But it still had a really cool feel to it and the jumpscares got me bad so I like it a lot.
I think the reason why she didn't call the cops was because of how scared she was, i know that sounds dumb but i think she wasn't thinking rationally because of fear, meds, and (some) alchohol combined.
It's not even certain that the cops would have done much in that scenario. I mean, the early 2000s had some pretty gnarly celebrity misogyny, and there's a good chance she would have been brushed off as just some crazy chick. I think the way Britney Spears was treated during her mental breakdown encapsulates this. If she had left her apartment, the paparazzi would have swarmed her like flies to a carcass, and the hate would have increased exponentially. Combine it with the pills messing with her head, the constant pressure from everyone else to keep the situation "under control" (as if other people hating her botched surgery is her fault), you can sort of see why she stayed. Even now, you see people in clearly unsafe or abusive situations staying, because they have been lead to believe that leaving is somehow the worse option as opposed to staying in a dangerous environment. I sure wouldn't want to be a celebrity. Peer pressure in highschool was bad enough!
Whole building might be nice and spacious but I feel like there is some serious structural violations in there. For starters, there is no emergency stairways to go down in case the elevators were to fail.
The ending sequence was unusually cinematic and well done. It also showed us very clearly where each camera is located. I wonder if there's any way to find and break them all? I was honestly expecting the reveal that the boyfriend is DarkCrusader and that you'd find cameras in every item Gin mentions was a gift from him. I mean, I guess we sort of got that implication, since the clock was definitely from him and I think the bedroom statue was too?
nah u gotta burn the whole house and go live in a one room apartment at that point. shoot xD idk how you'd even live in a house with anything in it after that mess.
@@iriswinter yeah, but again. People forget life hinges on choices and their consequences it’s easier to pretend it’s “a plot device” and not… like important to her work? Kinda odd.
This gives me major "Perfect Blue" vibes. - The story follows a popular female celebrity who goes through some sort of situation that causes a divide in its fanbase. - Is set around the late 90s to early 2000s. - There is a stalker involved. - Both stories utilize late 90s/early 2000s internet chat rooms. Let's just hope there's not a scene where a delivery man stabs someone in the eye with an ice pick. Quick Pre-Uploaded Edit: Just heard Manly say the same thing, glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.
I think the scariest part is why tf does she have mirror cabinets? jfc its like every rich person's home have to be the most accidental horror invested place. Just in general if i was living with someone in this apartment i'd be scared of opening it and closing it in hopes someone isn't behind me when i close it. The entire house in general gave me anxiety without the horror aspects.
For those who want the reasoning behind the dartboard puzzle at the end, the order for the code is given by the Silent Dark references. The protagonist has two framed posters in her living room, which give you Diamond and Heart for Silent Dark 1 and 2, respectively. But we don't have a poster for the third movie. Instead, we take a look at the script for the Silent Dark 3 movie, which is next to the computer, and find the Club symbol on the back. See 4:51 and 3:43.
If the stalker and secret room are real then I'd say she died. The elevator was broken which is why she couldn't leave in the first place. So if she left the room, the elevator would still be broken and she'd be stuck in the corridor with her stalker. But to me it seems like the painkillers were causing hallucinations. And she takes a painkiller right before the computer tells her to go to that secret room. So while parts of the stalking may be real, the other parts, after taking a pill, may be due to hallucinations and paranoia.
@@TemmiePlays No. But they do dull your senses and warps your thought process. Depends on the painkiller and dosage (and whether you take them properly) and how you respond to them. I had to take some when I had my gallbladder removed and it puts me in a "fog". It takes me longer to put my thoughts together and respond to things (like if someone is telling me to do something). I'm also allergic to Requip, a medication for Restless Leg Syndrome. It makes me meaner than a racoon with rabies. I'd punch you in the face for literally no reason and don't feel remorse for doing it. We could also assume there's poisons in the body due to the botched surgery. Like the tools used weren't sterilized properly. Or an infection sets in.

As someone who was stalked in real life in the past, this was incredibly unsettling. In a good way! They did a good job of capturing things. I feel sorry for Gin tbh, first she's being talked to into having face surgery she (according to her aggressive reaction) didn't even want (or need, like, she was very pretty already?), then that gets fucked up, which makes the post-op pain even worse probably, and THEN she finds she's being stalked. Not to mention her fans being general assholes (minus the stalker, that's a whole other level, and it could have been the ex too), and the press, of course, milking her butchered op for everything it can give them. And, you know, her may or may not dying in the end. Also kinda sucks. The fact that all this isn't even far off from reality is both sad and scary.
what's both pathetic and scary is that these guys went on to murder Gin all because she had to postpone her acting for Silent Dark 3 because she got an injury on her face. That is really pathetic but...also scary to think about how some fans are so obsessed to the point they'll get mad at the person they idolize over the most minor thing if it doesn't fit their view, like take that crazy bitch who kidnaps a wheel-chair bound book writer to write a book in her view
Ah yes Perfect Blue, the movie my sister wanted so bad that she bought it as a birthday present for me and kept for herself after. The animation quality on it was great and the story was pretty solid but it was a little too strong for me. It left me with the same feeling I got when Negan bashed Glen's head in, it was just a little too real for me.🤢
@@pandacat17 paprika was a trip. I think I will give it a rewatch in English. Normally I prefer Japanese and don't mind reading subtitles, but that film is just soooooo visually dense.
As someone who did private and commercial housekeeping for 10 years, her penthouse looks like a cleaning friggin' nightmare. All those surfaces, and those goddamn TCHOTCHKIES that need dusting, the floors my God the floors! Girl needs to edit her living space. It would take all day to do that place up right. I guess she's got the money to hire someone, but my word that apartment is horrifying on this merit alone.
Being stalked or doxxed is quite a common fear, something that could conceivably happen to anyone. Celebrities, all the more so thanks to being in the public eye and some fans wrongly feeling "entitled" as being responsible for their rise to fame. Gin's mental health is already getting barraged, it lets the player be unsure what's real and what's just in her head for some great tension. Ignoring the vase, I do think it's all actually happening if only because that makes it scarier and it lets the ending have some mystery to it, though I assume she got out.
Watching Perfect Blue now because of your mentions of it during this playthrough. Even only half-way through, I can see the inspiration the developer got from the film. Same computer, same fish (only tetras), same layout for the stalker hideout, imagining things, etc. Thanks for mentioning it Manly!
Jean Harlow was a real actress who died in the 1930s at only 26yo, so I'm thinking the protagonist in this game being called Gin Harlow is an homage to the late actress. Really cool actually
I might have laugh too hard at the fish tank. I used to work in Aquatics so I know my fish but the fact you said carnal tetras over neon (witch you were correct) shocked me and i clapped stating "you know your fish." The timing of you saying "yes i know my fresh water fish" just put me on my ass.
“I’m losing my mind… I think I need a drink” oh yea lady thats a great idea when you are zooted out of your mind, knock a few back. It’s not like you’ll over dose lmao
The game does address the issues that there are groups of fans in any fandom that I think have real mental problems or deep rooted issues in their life where they emotionally attach to a person, where if that icon does anything that those fans dont approve they all snap. and I have seen people get worked up in a frenzy just because they found out a super-model favorite colour was blue, oh boy they where very toxic over it.
I bet the stalker was Drew. He had previous access to the apartment and could've set up the monitoring room. He was pretty hostile when you didn't go to dinner with him. Or maybe it was a previous ex since the statue that had the camera was from an ex boyfriend and they would've had previous access to the apartment as well. The banging from the apartment that the landlord complaining about was the person setting up the cameras while the protag was out of the house working, doing shoots, etc.
There’s an important small info that may add to the theory that this isn’t real! The time where you start seeing Gin exiting the hidden room, the security cam stops recording if you look at the top left! 35:36
that's actually an incredible detail - electronics seem to stop behaving normally during dreams/hallucinations. when my meds got taken away, i'd check my phone or other technology & usually nip hallucinations in the bud
The stalker could have also just turned off the live feed since they were in that room anyways. They were somehow behind her, so they probably turned off the recording as to not expose themselves when they went after her.
I read the title and nearly had a heart attack... this was literally my childhood/teenager years :( I was doxxed and stalked for nearly 10 years, right into adulthood

Hoo boy, this game just gave me some serious flashbacks. Flashbacks to probably the darkest time in my life. I once accidentally doxxed myself a little in a game. Just my first name, but I got so spooked when my creepy cyberbully immediately messaged me. "So…[REDACTED], huh? Fortunately for you, I think that's a lovely name. Unfortunately for you, I won't forget it." Then, he brought up some of the things I had said on Tumblr. I panicked and told him to shut up and go away. His response was, "Aww, you're so mean, [REDACTED]!" After that, I went completely offline for a few months. I was too scared to enjoy my life. I thought he might show up at my house and hurt me or my family. So, I took it upon myself to protect everyone I cared about. I refused to let my guard down, to the point where I wouldn't even smile. I thought I had to stay vigilant at all times, lest he appear and do something awful. Fortunately, he never showed up, and I started slowly recovering after a few months. Eventually, I was able to laugh at jokes relating to the character he played. It was about two years ago. The whole thing doesn't weigh on my like it used to, but occasionally I see things that being back bad memories. Sorry for dumping all that on you. I just wanted to share how this game made me feel. Edit: Context as to why I overreacted so bad. My parents had taught me that if someone gets a little bit of information about you, they can start looking around the internet and finding more and more info until they have a whole profile put together. I, having dealt with anxiety issues since elementary school, took this to its logical extreme, thinking that a first name and a few silly stories from my life would be enough for him to track me down, even though no people or places were named in the stories.
My creep met me at my job, and it took a restraining order to get him to stop trying to find my house because no is not a word he understood, jail on the other hand, he did. It can real mess with you. I checked cameras in my windows when I heard a truck outside because I knew what truck he drove. Heck, I parked beside it at the court house for the long term order. I stayed inside with police until he left. I was afraid he would follow me to my parents' house, and no way was I risking leading him to mine.
I love how detailed the apartment was! It really tells us a lot about the character through visual design alone. That being said, where the heck is the fire escape? This building isn't up to code!
The lighting, shading and art for this is really great. Makes all the painting and objects look like eyes and suspicious figures whenever she is affected by hallucinations.
Everything that happened was all in her head. While the threat of stalking is very prevalent, it was pretty obvious from the moment she was getting forum posts that definitely shouldn't have gotten through the "moderation team." I think the bad press about her face was very real, but most of everything else was in her head.
Even the bad press could just be her worst fears manifesting. I think it was all in her head: - the stalker = her fear of her ex, but also her own unwillingness to let him go. (Why does she keep his stuff around?) - being mocked for her face = manifestation of her fear regarding losing her fame and the love of her fans - the cameras in her house = common celebrity fear of the public eye becoming more and more intrusive - the broken elevator = fear of never being able to step out in public again - that brick = fear of assault, feeling unsafe everywhere (because honestly hardly anybody would be able to make that throw) - no neighbours being home, yet having that somewhat aggressive note, only real contact are a business relation and the haters online = social isolation - I'm honestly not sure I buy the botched surgery, as that too screams celebrity fear and who would do such a surgery right before filming is set to start? That makes no sense, as even if everything had gone well, it would have had to heal. Personally, I think the botched surgery caused a mental breakdown or she is taken other meds than she is letting on. They may have even been switched, if you want to go really dark. Either way, she is more confused than she should be and appears to have acted weirdly before. She is unable to find reasons for her past actions. Her hallucinations are not typical for normal painkillers.
@@JuMiKu Not to mention that you can't tell if a surgery is botched that early really - everyone looks like death immediately after surgery, since the bruising and damage is part of it. Further, the site streaming her is ridiculous - there are modern day places where people post revenge porn, sure, but that's a far cry from a public mass stalk streaming site on the open web, even for the 'old' web. i like to think she made it to the door before the stalker caught up to her. shes limping and hurt, but it seems like the stalker was hurt too. she got out of the room first, he was lying on the ground, i bet he attacked her at the computer, but didnt expect her to fight back so hard. then they fought to get to the closet first, and clearly gin won. the elevator is still broken, but she might b able to hold the door shut till police arrive her manager did ask if he should call the police, but she didnt reply. (was probably too far into panic mode to think logically and reply) that being said, if your client texts you saying theyre in danger and someone smashed their window with a brick, then go radio silent, youd probably call the cops anyways. if thats the case she just needs to hold out until they get to her
This game is so sad cuz this is actually what can happen to anybody, at any time, for whatever reason (or sometimes no reason at all) and you can't do anything about it. I don't get why people can't have common sense and realize that maybe leaking someone's whole life on the internet because they feel like it can kill that person.
I was thinking in Perfect Blue just at the moment where you actually mention it lmao. All the thing about a movie, the fishes and the doxxing... Edit: I just watched the part of the computer with that comment saying they prefer Gin "sweet and virginal". Highly disturbing 🤡
The part that absolutely gets me too is the "moderators have approved of these messages" tag that appears on the top of each comment section. Man haven't seen an indie game this good in so long! I love when there's really detail and story behind the main spooky event, this game perfectly balanced the little notes and comments on decor to flesh out Gins life in a way that paints the picture so well, such a great concept for horror too yet not done enough (Perfect Blue and Misery being the only good examples I can think of?) The way stronger meds can make people hallucinate, there stands a chance the comments about a stalker teamed with meds could generate this without the real stalker being present.
Assuming these aren't knock-out grade painkillers, she wouldn't be having vivid visual hallucinations like this. I think the stalker is real, likely drew. But that's the beauty of a game like this: It's completely open-ended. It could be the pills she took, it could be a real stalker, or it could be something else.
unless she was literally on the verge of passing out (hypnagogic hallucinations) the whole time, even strong opioids shouldn't do that. maybe she had a reaction to the meds?
Ok, this one was really cool. I love the concept and the setting and the Perfect Blue comparison was pretty accurate. I don't care for the ambiguous ending to be honest, but overall I enjoyed this one. The hidden stalker camera room was a bit dumb, though, since it couldn't possibly fit there. I think the reason why she didn't call the cops was because of how scared she was, i know that sounds dumb but i think she wasn't thinking rationally because of fear, meds, and (some) alchohol combined.
@@TabbyCatq true on that. as someone who has been in some pretty dangerous situations, you get too scared to act and your mind crashes
I literally lost my mind seeing the choices she made. I figured her first instinct would be to call the cops and hide in her room.
Someone's never been on strong painkillers before
Whole building might be nice and spacious but I feel like there is some serious structural violations in there. For starters, there is no emergency stairways to go down in case the elevators were to fail.
Also a window breaking that easily in a high-rise is a concern.
She had money for a nice one, but not the best of the nice ones. Budget luxury. 😅
Even if the elevator was working fine, in case of a fire you’re supposed to use the stairs
and..theres a million windows surroundign every single part of the apartment so she can easily be watched..
@@DeathnoteBB oh whoops my stair has an electric door.
It might've been him but our character never reacts as if he is though that can be chalked up to other things.

I'm pretty sure why they use the botched face lift in the game is to give a reason why she stays in one place.

It’s the whole cause of the plot’s events, not just a plot device to make her stay in one place. The whole story is built around it.

So while parts of the stalking may be real, the other parts, after taking a pill, may be due to hallucinations and paranoia.
painkillers do not have hallucinating properties
@@TemmiePlays No. But they do dull your senses and warps your thought process. Depends on the painkiller and dosage (and whether you take them properly) and how you respond to them. I feel sorry for Gin tbh, first she's being talked to into having face surgery she (according to her aggressive reaction) didn't even want (or need, like, she was very pretty already?), then that gets fucked up, which makes the post-op pain even worse probably, and THEN she finds she's being stalked.

You would think that with all this money she could have a good security system installed.

Getting a call from not just any normal lawyer, it's Saul Goodman!

His response was, "Aww, you're so mean, [REDACTED]!"
After that, I went completely offline for a few months.
Bro what 😭. You doxxed your first name and thought he was gonna fucking pull up and beat the shit out of you or smn? What?

I stayed inside with police until he left. I was afraid he would follow me to my parents' house, and no way was I risking leading him to mine.

Gin's voice actress did a really fantastic job
The lighting, shading and art for this is really great. Makes all the painting and objects look like eyes and suspicious figures whenever she is affected by hallucinations.
Everything that happened was all in her head. While the threat of stalking is very prevalent, it was pretty obvious from the moment she was getting forum posts that definitely shouldn't have gotten through the "moderation team." I think the bad press about her face was very real, but most of everything else was in her head.
Even the bad press could just be her worst fears manifesting. I think it was all in her head:
- the stalker = her fear of her ex, but also her own unwillingness to let him go. (Why does she keep his stuff around?)
- being mocked for her face = manifestation of her fear regarding losing her fame and the love of her fans
- the cameras in her house = common celebrity fear of the public eye becoming more and more intrusive
- the broken elevator = fear of never being able to step out in public again
- that brick = fear of assault, feeling unsafe everywhere (because honestly hardly anybody would be able to make that throw)
- no neighbours being home, yet having that somewhat aggressive note, only real contact are a business relation and the haters online = social isolation
- I'm honestly not sure I buy the botched surgery, as that too screams celebrity fear and who would do such a surgery right before filming is set to start? That makes no sense, as even if everything had gone well, it would have had to heal.
Personally, I think the botched surgery caused a mental breakdown or she is taken other meds than she is letting on. They may have even been switched, if you want to go really dark. Either way, she is more confused than she should be and appears to have acted weirdly before. She is unable to find reasons for her past actions. Her hallucinations are not typical for normal painkillers.
@@JuMiKu You summed it up well.
True the vase part really sells it for me

i like to think she made it to the door before the stalker caught up to her. shes limping and hurt, but it seems like the stalker was hurt too. she got out of the room first, he was lying on the ground, i bet he attacked her at the computer, but didnt expect her to fight back so hard. then they fought to get to the closet first, and clearly gin won. the elevator is still broken, but she might b able to hold the door shut till police arrive
her manager did ask if he should call the police, but she didnt reply. (was probably too far into panic mode to think logically and reply)

The way stronger meds can make people hallucinate, there stands a chance the comments about a stalker teamed with meds could generate this without the real stalker being present.
Assuming these aren't knock-out grade painkillers, she wouldn't be having vivid visual hallucinations like this. I think the stalker is real, likely drew. also.. great aquarium. 10/10; watch the size of those angels though.
DUDE Perfect Blue is really great! I watch your videos a bunch and it's awesome you mentioned it! ❤️
11:20 when people are doxed, (if they are famous) people send random stuff to their house.
Like tampons made from their own hair.
Me: Yes, free tampons, finally, someone acknowledges my true worth! ;)
can't believe theres no emergency staircase smh
you're right about Perfect Blue! gosh, what a masterpiece.. 💖 i'd also love to have a bathroom like that too!
Watching Manly's gameplays is so relaxing, even if the game is so fucking disturbing, I just love his voice so much- ♥️😩
When the concept here is more real than the most horror games.
Yeah, that game was awesome! Story, atmosphere, setting. This was good!
I lowkey expected the tunnel to lead to the annoying neighbors house
I'm loving the references to Eternal Darkness as you play these games, lol.
it is literally the third time I'm trying to watch this video and everytime I just fell asleep at night because your voice is so calming god dammit
the fact that men still act like those blog posts today irl… seeing those posts in the game really shook me up because that’s such a big part of womens realities now
All of her windows not having blinds whatsoever reminded me of that scene from the show You, where Joe can literally see Beck change her clothes, do the devils tango with someone and more from her front window. It's wild
i get its a game but like.. who tf wakes up to there very expensive vase smashed feet away from where it was before and there front door wide open and says naw must be just imagining things. Must be a Skyrim Npc
Manly is Aquarium expert? That's what we never seen before.
Whoever threw the brick needs an NFL contract. That’s one helluvan arm!
Damn man, you can't just drop a title like Perfect Blue and then just be like oh, it's just a Satoshi Kon piece... and leave it at that. The dude is legendary.. Can see the influence though, gonna have to watch it again now. Also got a laugh when you mentioned the fish, literally thought "hey, Manly knows his fish" mere moments before you said it yourself.
This idea is genuinely terrifying
I usually don’t comment, but want to say that this game is unusually great!! There’s a lot of cool short indies with potential, but this one really feels like it’s the start of something truly special!! I hope there’s a sequel or expansion coming.
And, as always, great gaming and great commentary, Manly.

Any smart person would just fill their lawn with landmines and wall with motion detecting IEDs, if they still manage to get in have every door be fitted with bolts and a central security room you can monitor cameras and activate turrets from along with armorys that detonate if you fail to enter the proper code to enter or break the wall down, if all else fails you can detonate the nuclear bomb in the last stand bunker.
