That would be the logical reason, but in 2008 there was a test with 2 Mustangs, Standard Vs Automatic, and the automatic won the race because it didn't lose pressure while shifting gears. While standard transmissions remain fully manageable the new Tiptronic automatic transmission are becoming more fast and efficient.
