So this 50-something middle-class white man loves the sh!t out of this 'reaction' video. As a lifelong, enormous, Rush fan, it is so goddamned gratifying to see people listening to their music; but appreciating the lyrics, the story, behind the song. So thank you, Jay...for helping to give Neil his due!
yeah, i never sub to reaction channels because of that not really paying attention especially to Neil's work and he right away called out that bass. it is a great bassline. anyway, i enjoyed this guy better than any i've seen in a while
Neil was impressed by the lyricism of some of the rappers in the late 80s and early 90s and decided to experiment himself. I credit Geddy and Alex with not being close-minded. Even though I’m not always a huge fan of all their choices, I love how RUSH were willing to experiment... Loved... (sigh) Peace, Neil.
I love your open and honest reaction, Neil Peart is the writer, he is a poet, a traveller, he writes books, drives a BMW motor cycle and he is the best drummer in the world. But when you start to listen to Rush you will find out that Geddy and Alex are at the same level; master on their instruments. I love these humble guys ❤️
Neil wrote the Lyrics as usual. Geddy did the vocals, and put his voice through an effects processor to drop his voice a few octaves for the rap section.
And you straight up got the meaning of this song. You go out there aggressive and bold, take chances and roll with the consequences whether it's good or bad.
Without a doubt one of the greatest reactions ever! Appreciation for Greatness transcends all barriers. Rush has something for everyone, everywhere! ✌️☝️☝️✌️
Sometimes in Rush fan circles, admitting you like this one can be a bit... risky. :) But I always loved this song, thinking it was catchy and fun. Even still, I thought the rap part always felt a little contrived. Maybe not as deep as Rush often is. But I have to say, your reaction here really opened my eyes even more, looking at it in a bit of a new light. Especially the rap part, truly appreciating even in a musical structure the band, and Neil as lyricist, were not really familiar with, how well structured it was and the message it conveyed. Thank you! Glad you liked this one.
I got beef with anyone who can't appreciate this song. They don't have to like it, but I think that Rush fans by and large see the incredible value in Rush's experimentation and evolution of sound.
theantonlulz the only problem with this section is pitching Geddy’s voice down. If they’d left it original so you could hear him spittin, it would have worked better. Also “get busy” has not aged well. Even at the time, it sounded like 3 white Canadians trying to sound hip hop. You need someone like Rakim in Know the Ledge to use it in a way that doesn’t sound contrived. And then two white guys called The Crystal Method can sample it to make a classic track. Don’t get me wrong; I’m a lifelong Rush fan and I definitely appreciate this song. I was a first year college student when this album came out and I have a photo of myself walking across a Manhattan rooftop kicking a rock like the kid on the cover. The message of the lyrics, and the album as a whole, is absolutely incredible. I simply mean that the boys rolled the bones on that part of the track and they didn’t get a 12. You know what would be amazing, though? A live acoustic performance of it with just Alex and Geddy. No electronic drums or voice processing - just the two of them on guitars and Geddy spitting bars while busting out that bass line while Alex solos. That would be mind-blowing.
@@visionaryxtx1133 The whole Rio show is just amazing from start to finish. Tom Sawyer in Rio is good too because they opened with that and the audience were just LIT!!!
Thats whats so bad ass about Rush......they were always willing to 'roll the bones' and because of that they are a band with 100% integrity. And ALOT of great songs spanning decades! Whatever ur in the mood for. ❤ Rush
“You spend so much time trying to analyze life you forget to live it.” Isn’t that the truth! Glad you liked that one so much. Definitely an awesome message, especially for those of us who can fear failure. It was always a fun one in concert. It doesn’t matter whether it a song about life, death, and the meaning of everything, or a cool sci-fi epic about flying into a black hole, their lyrics are always brilliant. I’m going to echo the others here saying check out the live version of Xanadu - you gotta see three guys do the work of six musicians. Cheers!
Jay, your open mind to different types of music is very refreshing and your reactions are a lot of fun to watch. Rush has been my favorite band since I was 17 back in 1982 and it brings me no end of joy to watch young people like you get introduced to their genius. Thanks for sharing your journey with us and thanks for taking the time to “Roll The Bones” with Rush. I’m looking forward to more!
The very best of Rush was "Xanadu" live from Exit Stage Left (1981). 11 minute epic based on the Coleridge poem. Hard to believe three dudes are making all of this complicated music so flawlessly. Incredible to see them do it live. Can see who is doing what.

Amazing band. Cool to see you groove on the music and cut right to the chase on those lyrics. Keep it going, young man!
I just spent a couple of hours watching you react to my favorite band of all time Rush. I just had to comment on this reaction. After watching most of your Rush reactions, it's obvious you have a very good understanding of music with translates well to a band like Rush. I love that you get it and the reactions come across as real. Keep going on your journey, you are just scratching the surface of Rush.
The reason I've been a Rush fan since 1976 is they were absolutely fearless in attempting music that might have been above their pay grade. They never ceased in their endeavor to be as good as possible, no matter what. As you continue on your Rush journey, you will soon realize these 3 musicians were very, very special... Great reaction video! One I think you'd REALLY like is Headlong Flight, off of their Clockwork Angels release. It's an absolute scorcher, hitting on all cylinders. RIPPING bass work, a great drum break and a face melting guitar solo....neatly packaged in a song with a great lyrics, to boot.
Having known this tune since it's release I was anxiously waiting for your reaction to the "rap" section, awesome!! In concert they use the skull that is featured on this release as the "mouth" doing the rap on the video screen behind the band, it was epic! Another great reaction!!!

That was FUN!! Thank you, Jah Rah! Awesome. So glad you ROLLED with i!! Hmm...2112 next? I don't know man...that is a serious epic! You will love that song but you may want to feed yourself on more of the shorter songs first. If you liked Roll The Bones, I would recommend a song called "Digital Man". Lol..I loved your reaction!! You may have created a new dance move...Roll the Bones! 😆
Great reaction! Lots of fun. If lyrics are your thing you found the right band.
We spend so much time anylizing life we don't live it.... Profound, my brother.
Time to watch this one played live. From R30, done at Madison Square. Animated rapping 'Jack'.
I had too much fun with this bruh...whats next ? 🤔
2112 ?? YES !! If it’s not too late , best version here ... m.ua-cam.com/video/w5jwxrTqoEA/v-deo.html
Check out the fear series of songs. There are four in total, and they are.
Witch Hunt
The Weapon
Enemy within
Freeze
The lyrics will explain issues that may cause a person to become fearful or causes of concern.
@@onepieceofgumleft Agreed, this is the best version of the video to understand the song. It is an entire story and this is a visual novel to go with it.
yes 2112 all 20 minutes
@@onepieceofgumleft they have been copyrighting people lately on that version here's the other link if it happens ua-cam.com/video/wT7dciHZGfg/v-deo.html
That is such a fun tune ! Loved that Rush heard a style they liked and always try to work it into a song somewhere. And the marriage between the lyrics and the music was amazing to me. Just seemed to fit perfectly. Every time.
Good stuff man. Enjoyed it.
Oh man you really make a difference in my day when I check you out hard to find people I just want to dish the real you laid back attitude man and your realism give you something that a lot of the others don't have is that it .........factor..
stay tight man keep listening to Rush
I love when someone pays attention to the lyrics :)
Your reviews are very thoughtful and profound, enjoyed immensely, roll the bones bro
Another great reaction❗💜 RUSH ❗
Awesome Rush Reaction!!!! You are great!!
Yeah, the rolling dice moves! Live the now and flow 🏄
I really like this guy. He completely gets the band. Call out to ya!
I love your reaction to the rap verse! Music is truly for the masses!
You forget about live you forget to live it.... so true, great review, keep at it, more Rush please!
Rush doing Rush. There are no boundaries. Cool as Cat.
Squidward snagged me....but Rush saved me.
Thanks!
The rap was Geddy with his voice altered. I got goosebumps the first time I heard this part of the song; funky as hell.
you said something in another video like "without music, life is pointless".....for my generation (back when bread wasn't pre-sliced and the Earth was cooling)....you're words are TRUE. ...and yes, I'd like to hear a player take the lyrics, a beat, and make a song. You got this man, do it!
Spirit of the Radio!!
Love your reactions, thank you!!!
Enjoy the Journey, Jay..you get it...!!!!
This gonna be good!
One of my favorite bands because they were really unique and not like other bands💜💗
Great reaction! A really good reaction video might hit around 10% likes to views. You're pushing 20% on this one
It's a sick mix of heavy Rock and Reggae/ska! It's a banger! Check it out!
Reaction of the week!! Love it keep it real
Awesome! Thanks.
