    Merry Christmas. We tend to call them Bell Peppers here in the US not just peppers so it’s not that confusing.

      In Norway, we call it paprika. Pepper for us is the spice (as in Salt and Pepper).

    It's not confusing because we always say either a pepper or peppers when referring to Capsicum in Canada and if we are talking about the seasoning it's just pepper or the pepper. 🙂 I had never heard capsicum until you said it!

      Where I come from, capsicum would probably be understood, because we use capsaicin to refer the spicy element in peppers, but we call them peppers here. (Eastern US)

    One of my dogs also don’t prefer to eat off the ground and I’ve researched that it can actually harm their neck if they are too tall. So we built a dog bowl holder that’s more level to his body.

    • @Orpheelover
      @Orpheelover 2 роки тому +5

      True even if they aren’t that big it’s better to level it more. Like same for cats, it’s better to have a water and food bowl that is a bit raised.

      I've read raised bowls can cause large dogs to get bloat. Of course that's just something I read online so do your own research and/or ask vet.

    About the peppers (as far as my family goes) we specify “red pepper” “green pepper” or “peppers for the salad”. Or the peppers are already on the salad and we just say pass the salad and we all just know saying pass the pepper means black pepper in the shaker.

    The Christmas spread looked so beautiful and I’m sure it tasted so yummy! I love seeing how you incorporeal such a vast array of veggies into your meals, especially since in my own personal experience, veggies can feel a little stagnant in my own meals.
    Also ever since I started watching your videos (probably 6ish years ago, if not more) I love sprinkling a few “Aussie” words into my American home. We call our bell peppers capsicums now because of you!😅

  • @JacobMichael
    @JacobMichael 2 роки тому +56

    It’s fascinating to me that Australians call it “capsicum” - to me (an American) that sounds like the scientific name tbh xD But you’re also right.. it could be easy to confuse them with “salt & pepper” so maybe capsicum makes more sense :o
    I think most people usually call them “bell peppers” in the US to avoid this confusion.. but yeah.. fascinating to hear what people call things in different parts of the world

    Merry Christmas deli! The tests are 97% (or something) accurate, when used right. The stick for your nose is actually that long, because it has to go a lot further up you nose. Like all the way up to almost where your eye starts.. (don’t know how to describe it better) like 2-3 cm up. Because of lockdown and work we do those things 2-3 times a week, so pretty used to it, still not very comfortable. Good luck on your next time! Greetings from the Netherlands!

    15:52 lol, my dog, a shih tzu was exactly the same when he was a puppy. He would rather go hungry and throw up stomach acid rather than eating from his bowl, but if fed by hand/spoon he would usually eat. However, after I started serving him just one type of food (boring dry food mixed with raw meat for dogs) with a strict no spoon policy I don't have any issues anymore - he gets really excited during feedings now..

    Oo! A pocket door with stained glass?? That's awesome! I love pocket doors to start with since you don't have to worry about doors swinging open and whacking you a good one. The stained glass just makes it better. ... Well, maybe not that particular design, which is kind of super dated. But the concept is one I can fully get behind. Although maybe with a shatter-resistant glass substitute since it wouldn't be as much of a disaster if something caused it to break while in the pocket frame. Shattered glass in a pocket frame would be a nightmare to try to clean up. 🤔

    We were meant to be hosting Xmas dinner and have my other half’s family over. We had the meat all cooked by Xmas morning.
    He woke up yesterday morning (which was Xmas morning for us) and felt a little bleh. Bunged up nose and a little bit of a sore throat. He took a lateral flow test as his sister is pregnant and his mum works in a care home, and he wanted to be safe.
    It came back positive, so we had to cancel. I’ve been testing and I’m negative, but he’s positive. He had to go and have a PCR test too so just waiting on the results.
    So yeah, a bit sad as we had to cancel Christmas on everyone. We will host dinner again when he’s COVID free, but it’s just not the same.
    He’s feeling better today.

    In the UK, we have salt and pepper 🍚, bell pepper 🍅 and spicy pepper 🌶. And we just call them all pepper! Confusing, I know.

    I laughed out loud when you did your ‘nose cleanse’ with the rapid test. I never thought of it that way but it’s so cool you don’t mind mentioning that it’s not an awful feeling but might even be kind of pleasant. I remember hearing nightmare stories about the first tests so it’s good they’ve improved over time. Happy holidays!

      @@Elianuccia93 I was gonna say the same. So important that you get it far enough down towards the throat. If you do it wrong it is always gonna come back negative, which is the "dangerous" thing with the home tests.

    Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
    While I love that you guys try to be safe when seeing family, I do have to point out a small issue with rapid tests. They are, indeed, about 97% accurate - but ONLY if you have any of the known symptoms of covid-19. That is because they are less sensitive to smaller amounts of virus cells than the PCR-tests - and studies show that if you use rapid tests without symptoms they are less than 50% accurate.
    We've had a lot of problems with rapid tests being sold out here in Sweden due to people like university students using them to check if they have covid-19 before going to big parties - and then ending up either spreading the disease while not showing symptoms or getting the disease from someone else.
    Hope you all continue to stay safe and healthy!

    I scanned the comments, but didn't see it mentioned -- limes are parthenocarpic plants. Essentially, it's a botanical classification for plants with fruiting bodies that don't need pollination. So, without pollination, there aren't seeds produced. (Essentially, in slightly cruder terms, lime trees are able to shoot blanks. :D)
    No human intervention; it's a naturally occurring phenomenon...and a really great scrabble word. :)

    You should get Bowser an elevated food and water dish. then it's like you're serving him on his own little table, and you probably won't have to hold things to get him to eat. lol Hope you guys had a great christmas. ❤

    I didn’t know (as a US citizen who lives in the US) that if a product was graded as “organic” that it might not actually be…I thought they were pretty strict about that here, but I could definitely be wrong. Also, the fact that for so many decades so many crazy (now illegal) herbicides and pesticides were put into so much farmland, it may be that people are farming “organic” but the half-life of those chemicals still lives in the ground, unfortunately. Anyone who is in the US who know way more than I do…because I don’t know that much, please correct me if I’m wrong! We call those type of peppers in the US “Bell Peppers” so there isn’t any confusion. I’m planning on growing a vegetable garden that’s organic (as possible) with non-GMO vegetables…first try, will start in late March/early April for my area, wish me luck! Love fresh garden vegetables!

    so much in the US is smoke and mirrors it doesn’t feel like people’s best interest comes first because some many people are more concerned about making money… but that is also something that just happens all over the world… what can ya do? anyways happy holidays deli!

    Merry Christmas, did you know that if you need to ripen an avocado, you can put it in a paper bag along with a banana overnight. I think it is the enzymes in the banana that cause the avocado to ripen.
