i genuinely love the simpler tree decorations it looks so nice. our family tree is like the complete opposite haha. we have a bunch of like rlly traditional deco and tonns of little ornaments i made as a kid. plus my grandma was qn english teacher from the 70s to the 90s and we still have a bunch of ornaments her students made for her as christmas gifts. also my uncle somehow started started the tradition of hiding an easter egg ornament in the tree. it's rlly wholesome but god i crave some simplicity:))

I put my kids decorations on the tree proudly. It's our family tree and I love having things like that on it. I remember the first year we moved into our new house and didn't have much money to buy christmas decor I made all the ornaments with the kids from salt dough and some paper ones, we still have the dough ones and they go on the tree every year. Btw I love your decorations plus for anyone who would want a bit of color those look totally customizable, you can paint them which ever way you want, but they look great as is too. Also James is right you shouldn't care about anyone's opinions.

I love seeing how other people decorate their tree and how it absolutely represents their style/personality! The first Christmas my husband and I lived together we had all hand me down ornaments from other family members and we decided that year that every Christmas we would buy a special ornament so one day we will have a tree only full of our special ornaments representing each Christmas we have spent together! We have now been together for 12 years and have 3 wonderful boys so our tree is full of special memories and quite a few homemade ornaments that our oldest has made at school and I cherish each one!

From NZ and we always had croissants (cheese, tomato and ham to go in them) and pancakes for breakfast. Then we would have cold salads and cold meats for a late lunch. Then dessert was always cheesecake, fruits and ice cream. We would be outside most of the day and play backyard cricket or play in the sprinkler

I love your tree its simplistic yet meaningful. As far as asthetic my kids are my asthetic. In the office we have a whole wall of things our kids make and bring home and I do put things they make on the tree too. One of the ways I decorate my tree its just a mismatch of ornaments and that is an asthetic all its own. I call it the smorgesboard tree. Last few years I decorated the tree with a theme but my husband requested the traditional smorgesboard tree back so I did both. I have all the family ornaments on there but I also mixed in rose gold, champagne colored, and silver ornamets into it. It looks simple and pretty. I used to have Obsessive Compulsive Ornament Placement now I gently guide the children on decorating the tree themselves without too much fussing LOL.. Its amazing how you adapt when you become parents.

Love your minimal tree. its nice. Complete opposite of my house which has exploded in red, green and gold. lol. And for your kids question, all my old ornaments from when i was a kid and my daughters are on the tree. Our tree has many meaningful ornaments that we've collected over the past probably 30 years. And as an American, our family tradition for food is Homemade Lasagna with a fresh salad and homemade garlic bread. Also James "cracks" me up 🤣

I LOVE the "sad wooden tree" you had last year!! So beautiful and simple and perfect! We have a cat who is terrible about messing with trees, plus we used to have to travel a lot around the holidays (obviously not now b/c of Covid), so we never put up a tree and I really miss it... But a wall-hanging tree that can still display our favorite ornaments would be kinda perfect! I can't believe I never thought of that!

I made my own decorations with pinecones. I hot glued twine to the tops and they turned out awesome! One year, I used pine tree branches that had fallen, made a wreath out of them and used twine to keep its shape. The middle had a star made of twigs. The wreath is still hanging on my wall, since 2019 and it's Scandinavian inspired. The sliced oranges on string, for the birds is also Scandinavian inspired. I had strung those up on branches over in the corner of the yard where nobody ever goes.

Hey Deli. I wanted to thank you for sharing so much of your journey with us. Your information on your IBS really helped me. I had an attack of IBS that was lasting into the 4 hour mark of excruciating spasms and I remembered you mentioned the rocking method and it helped SO MUCH that I think I was able to relax my body enough to get the spasms to quit. Kind of like hiccups for my poop shoot! 🧐😂 But your thoughts on anxiety and finding equilibrium with your inner self and harmony with your physical self really helps me feel like I'm not alone in this floppy thing called life. So thank you so much. From one stranger on the internet to another, I happen to think you're a pretty swell gal. 🖤

I feel the same about Canadian Christmas...though it is typically really cold here. We are heavily influenced by the Europeans who settled here and by American pop culture and have lost a lot of the indigenous traditions.

My Mum got a real tree again last year and instead of it dying off like expected (and getting to become fire for sitting outside in the summer when its actually still cold) it just kept growing more and more buds on it. It got moved outside to do its dying off stage after it was time to take the decorations down and it starting developing new root growth from the cut trunk. So she potted it up properly and now there's last year's tree in the garden and we have the new one for this year inside. If we're not careful, she'll turn the garden into a forest. She certainly did that with the 30 tomato plants she ended up with this year. You know the bit where you're only meant to take the strongest seedlings? She kept them all and just planted the smaller ones out later, then kinda regretted it because there wasn't much space in the garden.

I still have an ornament that I made when I was in the 4th grade (I've been out of high school for 16 years) and it still goes on the tree every year. I have one tree that is nothing but Barbie ornaments (mainly the Holiday Barbie ornaments from Hallmark Keepsake that I've collected since I was little so I have every one of them from 1993 all the through to 2021), though I need to find a decent, relatively inexpensive white tree and then change out the lights to pink bulbs. Growing up the "aesthetic" of our Christmas tree was just a hodge podge of handmade ornaments and store bought ornaments. My mom has ornaments from around the world. When I went to Europe, the only thing she wanted was an ornament or something she could turn into an ornament from each country I went to. My parents retire soon and my mom has asked that we each make her a handmade ornament for their first Christmas after retirement. Christmas has always been super busy for my family because of my parents work (and now mine) but it is still one of my favorite times of the year.

My grandparents tree decorations were always very curated and themed and traditional but on the minimal side - but that’s because they had a real tree and they didn’t want to lose anything when they took it down. Your decorations remind me of theirs a little, I like it. My tree is random - we buy a new ornament every year and write the year on it. I have a glass witch hat ornament next to a snowman next to a penguin next to a Batman car. I have decorations my husband made as a kid on our tree. I have a decoration my toddler made on the tree. The aesthetic is Christmas exploded everywhere.

Love your enjoyment of the holiday season! I don't care for gifts unless it's homemade or meaningful. It is a lot of pressure for people buying 'to buy' it feels so hollow. I give eggs from my chickens or make speeds to share. One of my Fav gifts was my grandma making a casserole in one's of her dishes and telling me to keep the dish too. So kind!! I am a big fan of biodegradable wrapping too. Also your tree is fabulous!! Happy holidays!!

Tip for the ripped-up wall from someone currently mid-construction and trying to decorate creatively around construction mess: Cover that wall section with decorative paper or gift wrap. You could even make your own with natural-colored paper and potato stamps to suit the tree's eco aesthetic. Then add a wide ribbon in an off-center cross and a big bow. Basically make that section look like a big gift. You could even add a little rectangular bit of paper attached to the bow that says something cute like "With love from James and Maddie!"

Thought I just had! Use some Christmas wrapping paper to decorate/cover the wall that needs patching to add a festive touch for the holidays

If doing what makes you happy, does not hurt others, then keep it up. You are a nice person and are entitled to do what you want, being caring does not mean what you want is not valid. Not everyone has to agree with you, and there will always be haters, but your positivity and outlook on life is inspiring. Love seeing you and James decorating for for holidays. (Guess its the only way to see James recently, LOL) And I love your ornaments!!!

The wooden decorations you could paint them with glitter paint too would bring a bit of sparkle to them

Christmas here in Argentina is also pretty hot (sometimes it gets to 38° 🔥), but it doesn't stop us from lighting up a fire and cook asado (a traditional food here: basically cow meat on a grill 🍖). We also eat pan dulce (sweet bread), Mantecol (is like a nougat made from peanut butter) and garrapiñadas (sugar coated peanuts)... Love this season!! 💕 (but hate the summer)
Happy holidays to everyone however you celebrate it! 🎉

We do put our kids ornaments on the tree too, along with our nice ornaments. We almost have another spot we could use for a second tree, so one stays fancy and the other is kid friendly.
Our new tree came with little baby pine cones and red foam (berries). So a pine cone tree topper my hubs found was perfect to top it with.

Growing up mum did the Christmas tree how she liked it, we were never allowed to do it, had our own small tree.
My kids are doing the tree this year. We may end up getting them a little tree for their bedroom to decorate. But I love having the kids help out. We’re even going to have lego decorations. :)

I'm from the southern emisphere too and we celebrate christmas eve here. Cold salads, especially potato salad, are a must and very popular. We tend to eat chicken or something called vitel tonne (actually name is vitello tonnato) since Argentina has a huge italian immigrant descent population (myself included).

Love the decs. Like James said it's what you like so don't worry what others think. You should listen to White Wine In The Sun by Tim MInchin. One of my fav songs and is about Christmas in Australia and talks about commercialisation etc. Has such a beautiful sentiment how the importance of Christmas is spending time with loved ones :)
