I purchased his course for middle eastern tuning. I've only been playing kalimba for 6 weeks. I've had his course for 2 of those weeks. Its speed up my learning a lot. His course is so well laid out and he makes it so easy to understand the concepts. Everything you learn is in sections that you put together to eventually lead to this song. Every section has examples that you can listen to while learning. I practice every day and go back to previous sections sometimes to make sure I build muscle memory. I'm still a noob but I'm proud of the fact that I can play without looking at the kalimba with about 90% accuracy now. I feel that in about a month I'll be ready to take on some of the songs in the course. I practice scales a lot too besides the coursework to help build muscle memory. In fact that's all I did for my first month. I think building the muscle memory 1st speed up my learning this course a lot. I dont know this guy and I don't get anything for writing this other than the satisfaction of recommending something that will really help other noobs like me. The courses on his website are a really good value for what you're getting from it. They're cheap enough for just about anyone to afford and they'll keep you occupied for several months to become proficient. Totally worth it. This guy is a great teacher.
Having lived in the Middle East and Levant for 23 years, I love the Middle Eastern tuning, and am adding to my list of goals for learning as much as I can of the kalimba and its tunings. This upload is really great. Thanks, Mark!
Glad you are enjoying it. I have a special fondness for that body of music. Su is home from hospital, doing modestly better. A more thoughtful reply to your email in time. Blessings!
@@kalimbamagic Thanks, Mark. Very glad to hear a little better news on Su. Am sincerely praying for much more. Absolutely no rush re my email; your hands are so full at present. Take care of yourself too. 👆🙏
The retuning only requires changing 3 tines by a half step. Search the internet for “17-note kalimba middle eastern tuning”. I have also written an instructional download for this tuning.
Christie Decker this Tuning replaces the two G tines with G#, and the low C goes to B, to emphasize the E (the middle eastern root note). Toward the end, there is a soft resolve to A minor... it is the A harmonic minor.
Hello. Song has similar, or only little similar to one famous rembetiko song named misirlou. I love It, but now I have an idea. What You say to tune kalimba to real middle eastern scale, for example to maqam, dastgah, or makam? Maybe It'll be very interresting too.
I was about to purchase your book but I really need more eastern melodies and original eastern songs because I already know the basics. Do you have anything more advanced than this first book?

" Lama bada yatathana "
Love it ! What musics do you recommend on this tunning ?
So nicely played! Is it possible to purchase any 17 kalimba in C Major and tune it to middle east?
In principle - you can tune your kaiimba? Retuning from 17/C requires retuning like 7 notes. - MH
Please, share the tabs 😃
The tabs for this song is in the middle Eastern book for 17-note kalimba:
www.kalimbamagic.com/blog/item/middle-eastern-17-note-kalimba
I am a beginner, may you pleaee let me know how to tune the Kalimba to make it sound middle eastern?

How does Middle Eastern tuning differ from other tuning please? Thank you!
It's just a minor scale lol
@@irvingdelahoz9390 not quite, you can think of it as a major scale with a flat 2 and 6
If you have a kalimba with standard C tuning, you can lower each E and A by a half step:
C Db E F G Ab B C
It's generally called a Persian scale
Lower each D and A* not E
Christie Decker this Tuning replaces the two G tines with G#, and the low C goes to B, to emphasize the E (the middle eastern root note). Toward the end, there is a soft resolve to A minor... it is the A harmonic minor.
can you please write the notes please ❤❤❤

Lily Smith I have a whole download of music...Hava Nagaland, Coventry Carol, Latin grooves, Till the Day that I am Grown...

It sounds like maqam Hijaz scale.
I guess it‘s a harmonic minor?
Yes. In the first sections I emphasize the dominant, which has a minor 2 and a major 3 so it sounds like a middle Eastern scale
