If anybody can answer this I'd really appreciate it. I've heard if you exercise on a consistent basis without eating any protein whatsoever, you can actually lose muscle. I want to know, does that muscle loss occur in the muscle you exercised, or are other muscles broken down to repair the one you exercised? My guess is the second. Is that right?
I have never heard of controlling your diet in this way ... very difficult as vegetables also have protein (what "would" you eat to achieve this?). I would also guess that your body would break down muscle tissue as this is the same thing that occurs when we do not eat for a few days. On the Healthline website I found: "Serious protein deficiency can cause swelling, fatty liver, skin degeneration, increase the severity of infections and stunt growth in children. While true deficiency is rare in developed countries, low intake may cause muscle wasting and increase the risk of bone fractures."
(I am prepared to take the time to prove everything I have stated in my comments, and I like contentious points which we inevitably arrive at in the sciences.)
Other than some obviously misspelled words (perhaps some unintentional) like encephalopathies/protozoa, and mispronounced words (like prions PREE-ons and Giardia GEE-ar-DEE-uh) leading to Giardiasis, and the major mistake of believing gametes are formed in Mitosis (he means "gametocytes" which are diploid and are precursors for gametes/meiosis in the "gut" of the mosquito) ... gametes are formed in asexual reproduction (they are only formed in Meiosis or sexual reproduction, but there are "bad information" websites out there that suggest otherwise) I find most of his information correct (I teach Microbiology to College students). Of course a serious microscopist/lab tech must be aware of exceptions for some of the lengths (no widths or other dimension he mentions) does not always conforms to these suggested ranges, but if his audience is for those just learning a subject like Microbiology then, in my opinion, he was pretty good. So many professors do not know how to initially "dumb it down" a bit so everyone understands, and then gradually improve and extend the information ... I believe he was doing a good job of this for his audience. Just my opinion.
