Let me explain why Indian audience is damn eager for this: In Hinduism, there are 4 Yugas (Eras). Satya Yuga (Golden Age) Treta Yuga (Silver Age) Dwapar Yuga (Copper Age) and Kali Yuga (Iron Age). The level of wickedness, badness and misery in world increases in every consecutive Yuga. As years pass, one Yug ends and another begins. Ramayan happened in Treta Yug. Mahabharat happened in Dwapar Yug. Currently we are in the Kali Yug (2024 AD). Now the interesting part, The Yugas aren't linear, they are in a circle like a clock, the end of Kali Yug would begin the Satya Yug. But as Satya Yuga is the holiest of all and Kaliyug the unholiest, the transition of these two Yugas won't be the same as the other pairs. When this happens, the Universe will face an entire wipe out and only the good souls will survive that will carry on the Satya Yuga once again. It is like a circle of life. What begins will end, and the end will bring a new beginning! There are more details of each Yuga, how they were, what were the timelines, how were the humans then, etc.
Now, coming to the movie... You need to know that in these four Yugas, to maintain the balance and prove the victory of goodness vs evil (Dharma vs Adharma), Lord Vishnu, the Proprietor of the Universe incarnates in the mortal world for 10 times, called the 10 Avatars or Dashavatar. Avatar is an Indian word. [Dharma means righteousness and not religion here!]. I won't speak about all the Incarnations in detail here, but you guys must have heard about Shree Ram and Shree Krishn. They were the 7th and 8th Avatars of Lord Vishnu. Depending on necessities, He incarnated with different qualities and forms. In Treta Yug, Shree Ram established Dharma by defeating Ravan and establishing Ram Rajya, the rule of peace. In Dwapar Yug, Shree Krishn defeated Kans to protect his region, and his role in the Great Mahabharat to establish Dharm is known by you. Interestingly, till today, only 9 Avatars have been born and completed their goals. The 10th and last avatar of Lord Vishnu was prophecised to come at the end of Kali Yug to establish Dharm once again and this destruction will start the Satya Yuga once again. The name of this Avatar will be Kalki. Even the birthplace and names of parents are mentioned in the Holy books of Hinduism. This movie is based on the place, where Shambhapur will see the birth of Kalki (in the womb of Deepika). Amitabh Bachchan's character is of Ashwatthama, one of the 8 immortals of the world, who was cursed by Shree Krishn at the end of Mahabharat to be immortal and suffer. He and the other 7 Chiranjeevi (immortals) including Hanuman will pave the way for Kalki to reach his destination to defeat Kali, the demon.
This movie has the backdrop of a very core subject which is close to us Indians and that's why, people will definitely appreciate it.
I'll say a very interesting fact at the last:
1. It is believed that in Satya Yuga, good and evil were in different worlds, Devta (Demigods) in Devlok ans Asuras (demons) in Asurlok...
2. In Treta Yug, good and evil were in same world, Shree Ram and Ravan
3. In Dwapar Yug, good and evil were in the same family, Pandavas and Kauravas.
4. In Kali Yug, good and evil are in the same person, our own thoughts! THIS IS A VERY BIG LESSON I BELIEVE!

In addition to this I know that there are some doubts in your mind like----
❤1) Why this world looks like Dune and star wars?
> At first, this is not another planet. It's our earth in future when all the resources will be almost finished. So there is no water, no vegetation, no fresh air etc. As a result it look like that. But that's a whole different thing.
❤2) How did Aswathama get too much power that he can lift those people or stop the car by his one kick?
> The answer is that the character Aswathama is mentioned in our ancient text "The Mahabharat". He has many superpowers & super strength also, as he was born with a divine gem on his head. And I swear that it's mentioned in 5000 years ancient scripture. But due to a fault he killed a unborn baby in "The Mahabharat" war.
So Lord Krishna(8th avatar of Lord Vishnu) cursed him to be immortal till the last(10th) avatar of Lord Vishnu to protect the avatar who will diminish the age of darkness, Kaliyug and establish a new era of Purity and righteousness.
❤3) He has no suit like Iron man. But he has a shoe which can fly.
❤4) There is shown a inverted pyramidal place, Complex. That's the place where all the remained resources are taken over by the elite society.
❤5) At the first dialogue this is an irony. Kashi is one of the oldest cities in the world. And in the trailer it's said that the Kashi is also the last city and the other world has already been destroyed.

The story behind this movie is inspired from Hindu scriptures that there was a war happened in 3102bc named mahabhrat where a character called aswathama (role of Amitabh Bachchan or that old man) where he was cursed by Lord krishna with immortality as punishment for trying to kill a unborn baby and there was a gem in his forhead which give him powers. So kalki which is an avatar of Lord vishnu (who is protector and preserver of universe) born in after 6000 years of mahabharat to end the kali yuga or saved humanity.

U guys can see there is alot of height difference between Ashwathamma(old man) and others, he is from Dawpar yuga, people from dawpar yuga are said to be minimum 7ft in height according to puranas! Hats off to director for not leaving even a small detail! Everything is perfect

A person with gem on his head is Ashwatthama is the son "lord sun" a he got a gem on his head since from his brith, which is sorce of his power's. Ashwatthama. is from ""Mahabharat war"". who got cursed after Mahabharata by lord krishna because ashwatthama(he got blessings of being immortal) kill innocent new born baby for taking revenge from friends of lord Krishna (pandva) . Than lord Krishna gives him cursed that as he is immortal he is not gonna die but he live this entire life with big wounds on his body and his body is all time smelling very bed, so no one wanna talk to him or no person or doctor in this universe can heal his wounds because they are cursed wounds and Anyone who trying to help him, got server disease due ashwatthama's curse. Than after giving curse lord Krishna's take away his gem which on his head... (Gem is the source of power of ashwatthama, in which he can store is power we no requirements).
