I had 35s on my 2024 ZR2 [sold for Raptor] with zero rubbing nor issues. Run fire trails out here on the CA/NV border. You are correct that I couldn’t fit a matching spare under the bed. I bought synch straps & anchored my spare in the bed. An alternative is to simply run a 33” spare; simply can’t run it up front & would have to do a 3-way swap if you get a flat front tire. 👍🏻
@krasnaludek298 yep and 90% of tire problems can be fixed with a plug kit. So probably be OK and if a side wall cut happens like you said put the 33 on the back
Personally, a ZR2 would be just right. It would be nice to have 35's, but personally, I'd not be willing to lose the ability to have a tonneau cover. It's just too important to have that for hunting trips.
Great video J...i have the Bison and the At4x non AEV. I bought the Bison basically for a writeoff and i think its the most capable badass truck in midsize market. That being said I love driving the At4X as a daily driver and the Bison is a blast to drive and ive used it for some moderate rock crawling as well. Only complaint for Bison is mileage 13.4mpg and Spare tire location. Like you said your not buying a Bison for mileage.
The hot stamped boron steel bumpers and skid plates on the Bison are 4X lighter and 7X stronger than regular stamped steel. Then they add 15 years of corrosion resistance to the bumpers. Pretty stout but you pay for that level of performance. I was concerned about the weight of the bumpers reducing payload but it obviously doesn't. Aftermarket bumpers may or may not allow you to retain the functionality of the parking and proximity sensors.
you can get 4 of the 5 skids from AEV now. according to them. they had to use boron cus GM said they only had 70 lbs to work with for all the skids on the package. the bumpers and extra weight from the tires make up the other approx 200 lbs of weight. love that AEV is now selling most of the skids on their site.

don't forget the bison has smaller fenders up front. that info wasn't easily found. if you look closely the back side of the wheel well has 1-1/2 inches trimmed to give more room. might help your decision between the two. plus its all warranted.
@@Jason-Samko great videos Jason. I did hear you talk about the flares being different on it, but I didn't hear you say anything about the actual fenders. If you did my mistake. I cant remember where I read it but the actual fender that the flare attaches to is different from the factory. (1.5 inches trimmed on back side). if you were to do a build of both on the gm build site you can actually see the smaller gap between the door and flare on the bison. thats to me is a huge deal. that is if you want to get 35's on there with a little less lift. I wish it was just the different flare. no way am I going to replace the fenders or do any trimming. you are right. the 34's are plenty.
I got the zr2 non bison. I probably will get the gm accessories jounce bump stops which include a half inch lift. all the brackets are pre welded on the 24 model year easy install. thank you gm for making it easy. I dont need the bumpers. when I need tires that is, then ill go with a 34 x 11.5 on the same rims. ill get a total of 1 inch more clearance instead of the 1.5 inch the bison gives. AEV sells all the skid plates now except the one that is integrated into the bumper. fraction of the cost. not quite the same as the bison but close enough of my needs
I’m not a Chevy guy but this is one nice looking mid size. Best looking over all the others in IMO. Question, what is the towing rating on this truck Jason. Max towing?
6000 lbs on base zr2. bison drops to 5500. the payload drops by I think 250 pound. I had a 21 raptor with payload of 1145 because of the rear softer coil suspension. my 24' zr2 colorado has 1240. the bison drops a bit below 1000. thats a problem to me. 4 - 200 lb adults in there only leaves 200 lbs for gear. not good
agree. maybe to at least try to justify the extra cost for the gmc. more pricey for sure. pretty much the same truck. maybe a bit more refined exterior. if its the bison vs the the at4x then. there is definitely a trade off you don't get the jounce bump stops on the canyon with the AEV upgrade. its an option. but they do put the power distribution / aux switch panel in there. might be good trade off but still a cheaper standard option for more money.

I liked the desert boss version of the Zr2. They don't sell it anymore, but the bull bar and the chase rack made it look so sharp.

The Bison is the baddest looking truck on the market but cant justify the $12-15k upcharge.

Cant fit a 35" on a zr2. The most important can fit on the gladiator is a 37" underneath. 😅
for the tire you could get a hitch mount tire carrier. but that is a pain because of the tailgate. big pain if you are in and out of the back alot
Very true on both points. And the suspension change with that much weight hanging on the back between the tire and the carrier

I have to use a full bed with cover so Bison is out. Plus I didn't care for the look with 35s.
