Strangely enough, on my first playthrough of the PS3 port, I had no crashes whatsoever. It was only when I replayed through the series is when I experienced it.
I was just reminiscing on how thankful kh fans were for these ports no matter how mediocre. Crazy how far we’ve come

it might be an engine issue because the one difference that kh3 has on the other games is it uses unreal engine. Every other game uses the luminous engine which has its issues. I think its why they moved away from that engine because there was a lot of difficulties with the engine and bringing games to the modern era.
I must be amongst the few who hadnt had any of these issues when I had the ps3 version. Only complaint is that you have to beat the 13 mushrooms to unlock the secret ending

The funny thing is that whenever I play KH2FM English on PS3, I never have these problems. The drive forms loaded pretty fast. Just as fast as Vanilla KH2, maybe it could be due to my video output and me messing with some settings on the ps3 a long time ago, allowing it to handle more.
Also, it could be that when I got the ps3 version a few years after it came out, it got an update. Which makes sense. I mean, Nomura did go and help work on KH2FM English personally to fix certain mistakes, mistranslations, and some glitches that were found KH2FM. So maybe the random crashes were caused by what he fixed, so the update I got when I got it was just to stabilize it or something 🤷♂️ I'm playing it right now on PS3, and it's fine. I know that I could upgrade, but my logic is if I own it on PS3, and it's working then don't upgrade unless absolutely necessary, especially with crazy inflation happening.
Still, it was interesting to find out about these problems that would occur for others with the PS3 versions.
I do have a greatest hits 2.5 which I think fixed stuff, like the limit form and Xemnas crashes.
I’ve platinumed KH2FM on PS3 like 7 years ago and never experienced any crashes or major FPS drops
I'm right now grinding to lv 99 in the Station of Awakning with Roxas. Yes, i do get you can level consistently as you go but I still want to max out early. Will take me about 5-6 months tops. Btw, I chose the Shield.
Would it all be worth it for a drive converter?
@@elmonextbot depends if you like seeing the drive orbs fall with Roxas just because you unlocked the ability and they can then yes lol but it'll probably be helpful for leveling the drive forms early with Sora as well.
However if you don't want to sit around for about 200 too 300 or more hours with Roxas hearing the warning beaping repeatedly to keep experience boost going then no but if you do then probably get some music to drown out the beaping if it annoys you too much after a while.
Alternative leveling spots with Roxas include Sipher at the hidden spot during the struggle tournament as you can just one attack him, no combo until he's almost ☠️ and then go against the streetlight and let him hit you till the warning beap starts and ☠️ him instantly for 26 exp gain every time or you could do the famous before the mansion with Roxas grind although just like station of awakening you need to dodge health orbs to keep exp boost going. Wooo 5 to 4hp 24/7 let's go! Lol
I remember this one dude did that with KH1before that tookhim a couple of weeks to do because he was grinding nonstop in Destiny Islands against those Final Fantasy characters
I died so many times at the beginning of the Xemnas fight that now hearing the line "we shall go together" triggers my PTSD.
I eventually developed the strategy of just using riku's limit frame 1 since it made me invincible and gave me a chance of actually fighting

If you play kh1 and 2 on the original ps2 and then try playing them on ps4 or pc with 60fps or higher you also get mechanics working differently. Its easy to see in the Genie Jafar fight. When he does that spin attack you don't get hit on 30fps I think unless your positioning is off at the end, on 60 fps I think you get hit by it all, and i forgot about 120fps but the hitboxes change for each FPS
its weird how KH2 is bad adptade to 60 fps... i also feel base Sora's combo get connected slower than it should be in the 60fps version...weird af
@@shadkuroi The FPS messes with kh2 probably the hardest I've missed reaction commands because of how fast they go sometimes. KH1 base combos affected hard too

Either you have near perfect internet connection, or you flat out ignored the cloud version on Switch.
The PS3 version at least is playable without a connection to the internet.

Then again the PS3 version started the trend of not including all the dubs of the old games. Like the French, German and Spanish dubs just aren't on PS3 KH2. And so because of that, they weren't in PS4, Xbox, PC and Switch versions. But then again it's not exclusive to KH2. PS3 KH1 also didn't have other dubs that existed on the PS2 (French and German here); so it's more of an HD ReMIX thing more than anything

@@dylanriddle782 dream drop distance is a maybe, its the unreal engine games that are gonna be the hard ones, which are 2.8 and 3. melody of memories wasnt as demanding, so that was released regularly.

sorry, imma rant a bit
the numero uno gripe i have with the kh series being cloud-only is that i cant play it on the go. which is, ya know, THE MAIN GIMMICK FOR GAMES YOU CAN PLAY OFFLINE IN HANDHELD MODE! and the kingdom hearts games, with the exception of union x when it was still online, are one of the biggest offline games ever, and we have handheld games already: chain of memories (gba), coded (ds), days (ds), birth by sleep (psp), the aforementioned dream drop distance (3ds) and melody of memories (switch, if you play it undocked), and now all of union cross and dark road. it will just make people, like me, want to gravitate to ps or xbox, even if we cant go handheld mode or take it with us.
I've played KH2fm before I got 2.5 on PS3. I encountered all these problems, but what bugged me the most was that there was no way to change the controls. I naivety believed I'd have jp controls because of my jp PS3. I thought about importing the compilations from Japan, and I eventually did on PS4.
I still want to complete the games eventually on PS3, but the fact there's no way to remap buttons without jailbreaking the console puts me off.
I remember how distracting the PS3 port was when they finally debuted 2 Final Mix outside of Japan. Plus the worse load times in general. :p Dude I was hyped for the PS4 version just for a more fixed polished version. And thankfully it was better.

Some extra info playing the pc ports on linux will not work unless you disable the fmvs
This isnt really an issue however Re:CoM uses videos for the cut scenes so you basically skip anything important in CoM
Maybe this will be fix when the ports get put up on steam but who knows when that'll hapoen

@@SoraFan23 you and me both… dead ass I was gonna buy copies for myself and my group of friends (they never played the games yet) had they done it properly I also hate that they had Sakurai make the announcement a guy who has worked so hard to make the games he works on to be the best experience for the consumer he needed surgery idk I’m sorry I’m just still so angry and heartbroken about it
While I had the PS2 version as a kid, I didnt do a full playthrough of KHII until I got the PS3 version and played it in RPCS3 (after 1.5+2.5 had already dropped on PS4). I dont know if it's a fluke or just emulator innacuracy but the game never crashed for me and loading was about as fast as I expected.

I played this version on my ps3 and never experienced any of these problems. Was there an update patch?
Somehow I platniumed it despite that goddawful hang-up time on Drives and Summons. I wanted to finish them all but the load times on 2.5 coulpled with the lack of Stacking Difficulty Trophy unlocks on 1.5 made me hold off. I've had the PS4 and now own the PC version and still need to go back for my proper run through.
2.5 did a lot of good things for KH2 and a lot of bad things. There are even cases where changes are both good and bad argubly, like how they gave us voiceclips for the new cutscenes that people backported to the fanpatch of PS2FM...except the localization for the dub is sometimes completely diffrent, so we actually have less accuracy now.
Personally, the PS3 ports of kingdom hearts were the only victims to this. There’s also ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, sly cooper. I don’t know what it was about prints from that era of gaming. They just didn’t work for one reason or another. Luckily PS4 fixed most of those issues.
Porting games too and from the ps3 in general was an endeavor due to its different architecture.
@@rexthewolf3149 absolutely. PS4 was way more streamlined I feel like. But it didn’t have backwards compatibility as a result, but I’d say it was worth it.
Well turns out KH2 final mix only works on PS3 which I spotted was the game engine speed on PS3 works good, I made a mistake buying that again PS4 what I didn't know it was the game's engine speed on PS4 that speed rushing too fast, and the same problem was on the switch too. There is good why the xehronart saga should reboot with proper graphics so it can work on proper game consoles too.
I remember enjoying it on PS3 when I played it first time but then things fell to crap when I considered replaying the games on PS3. KH2 would constantly reset and send me back to the menu, BBS would freeze on black screens, ReCom would softlock and KH1 would just crash.
I find the buffering very benificial specially with xigbar's boss fight. i had a lot of problem fighting him the first time and i saw some playthrough did the drive form bro the whole buffering got sora save from crazy xigbar's attack :v

PS3 version worked amazing if played off the internal HDD instead of the disk. But you needed CFW for that.
I Don't know why, but I Don't have any of the issue from this video. I'm stuck now at mushrooms and datas, but because of my skill, not crashes. For full game only issue is changing forms, but still that's little faster than on your video. Maybe that's because of ssd and changing thermal paste once in year, but that's works for me.
I’m so glad they fixed most of the bugs in the ps4 version. Also I still think it’s better than the Switch “port”

I’ve played the PS2 versions on a USB , and I’ll say 2.5’s loading times and drive form transforming are about the same as USB.
The form change thing always bugged me, but I've played the ps3 version since forever now, and I've never had any issues with it aside for that

i expected this video to be about the Switch version. I played Kingdom Hearts games on PC and never experienced any of the crashes on it that you mentioned, but I did find this video interesting.
I've played KH2 multiple times on ps3 and ps4 and I've never been aware of or experienced any of this
TF? Played all the way, didn't have problem with loading and drive form. Didn't catch any bugs too. I got the Euro version.
To be honest, I'm just surprised that the square team could port KH to the PS3 at all, console was and still is a development nightmare, a powerful but convoluted console tbh

Coz I played both the ps2 and ps3 version, and i been playing the ps3 version for years already and I have no issues at all, the game doesn't crashes or freezes, it literally runs perfectly fine.
Those people that "experiences" crashes if they even exist, prob had a ps3 that was on the verge of having a yellow light of death

The worst version of KH2? Uhh, clearly not, since it has more content than original and looks better. Sure, it has its flaws, but the PS2's drive form loading wasn't lightning fast either. I sense someone is totally spoilt by the PS4/PC version. It's definately not the definitive version, but it's far from the worst
FYI: I own the platinum trophy and spent lots of hours in this version

Didn't watch the video long enough to get to the point but I'm glad everyone's talking about the ps3 version as it's the only one I mad respect. It was Square's first attempt at acknowledging western interest in final mix and I remember being there for 1.5 release despite not getting a ps3 until around 5 years ago. Now that I've finally got it I managed to beat kh1 100 percent before the system inevitably pulled a ylod. My only wish is that I learned about it sooner to prevent it cause now I'm stuck with an almost complete re:com, and half-completed entirety 2.5 on ps3 with no intention of starting over on ps4 just to finally get that final mix experience D: I like my ps3 trophies making up for the lost time when I should've had so many games beat on that system since yesteryears, and now... **sigh**
Personally, the best way to play kh2 is grab a PlayStation 2 and play the original release.
I disagree cause, besides he does have his problems, the PS3 version is very good at port the speed of combos perfectly. the Ps4 version, maybe bcause the adaptation of 60 fps it seems that the window time between some animations was not well programmed, making sora beat a little slower, mainly in sora's base hits. it's a detail but for me it makes a lot of difference, and many people may not have noticed.but a good part of the quality of KH2 is how fluid it is and how good its feel. Because of this I revisit the PS3 version because it's the most current we have of how 2FM really feels.
it's weird, in PS4 some actions are bad programmed but others others get benefited from the 60 fps and feels faster like the Valor form for example.
No the worst version is KH2's PAL PS2 version by far, at least the PS3 version has the final mix content and runs at 30. The PAL PS2 version doesn't have any of the final mix content and runs at 25 FPS instead of 30.

US/international ps3 release, hands down.
They brought loading screens, to a game that could have had loading screens, but originally didn’t.
