You certainly did that old log proud. Very nice little boxes. Some very nice figure and the corner splines make a statement too. Very well done. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Watching a DUWW video is a great way to start a lazy Sunday morning. 🙂 They look awesome Vic, imagine how many gorgeous potential boxes get thrown in the fire each winter!
Dude I love it when Australia’s best UA-cam woodworker puts a video out, great journey from firewood to an amazing box . Keep on making Grouse videos mate 🇦🇺👍👍
I have to smile Victor. I have a wood burning stove to heat our house ( and my shed). I cut a tree every year or so to 'Feed' them. BUT I cannot pick up a piece of firewood and think... What's it look like inside? Many a piece gets diverted to make wooden bowls. and the odd box. my favourite is when it becomes spalted. The boxes are absolutely beautiful, and I too now use more hard wax and bees wax to finish my projects. I'm sure the recipients will be delighted with them.
I watched your video on restoring an old jointer - v good! In this clip I was disappointed to see a new jointer in place but thoroughly enjoyed your take on using firewood. Thanks buddy, I'll keep on watching as it seems our woodworking paths have taken a very similar line to each other. Keep up the inspiration! Cheers! RM
Hey mate, it’s called progress or evolution. Like many others I started out with cheaper basic tools and only over time did I upgrade. Glad you’re liking my videos and thanks for the support.
Greta looking box mate! Interesting to see your process in milling the log into the pieces you used to create it. Goes to show a rubbish looking log can be turned into something fantastic!
Nice work mate, I see your machine collection growing nicely :) ... have to say though, those bandsaw cuts at the beginning were well dodgy. Oh, and how do you like the Bosch Sander? :)
Thanks very much Ben. Yes, got a few new tools lately but it been slowly but surely. Good lesson for newbies, you don’t need everything when you start. The old bandsaw was a real workhorse once I worked out how to work it to its best ability. The Bosch orbital sander is great, feels good to use and solid. It has an alloy metal body, real solid unit and smooth too. I think it’s more a finish sander though because it has variable speed which is great but at top speed it’s still much slower than my corded ones
gday ol mate long time no see , again you impress me with your work !, i truly wish you lived closer as i have some wood here that you can have mmmm and not just a bit of fire wood!.
Are you sure you have enough glue on those splines? Great video, you get no where near the recognition of the quality of your work and videos, much appreciated from the UK.
I recently bought a Fare and Forbes Bandsaw over a Carbatec bandsaw. I noticed you using a Carbated Jointer. So I thought I'd ask if you are happy with the Carbatec?
i think the owners of the farm are going to be stoked when you give them the boxes. Thank fo sharing
Thank you Simon. The boxes have already been gifted and they loved them
The boxes are fabulous mate. I'm sure the recipients will love them. Keep up the good work Vic. All the best.

love your work...made with a love for wood..and recycling ,not just burning a precious finite resource. A lump of wood is not just a firebrick....
Thanks very much mate. True what you say, reclaim, reuse, recycle.

Beautiful boxes mate. Love the idea behind them as well 🎉
Thanks mate, I’ve wanted to do something for them for a while. This seemed perfect.

Yes mate, the jointer is great. It has the spiral had, so good.
How long did you have to let the wood dry before you worked it?
I didn't, i knew these logs had been sitting around unused for years
