It's an 8 string strung with 5 actually. Sometimes 8 strings is desirable in a recording studio if you want a fuller strumming sound. But for live shows w/ a lot of triple picking a few are removed to give the pick more space.
I could totally see this whole performance being a scene in a movie! Your look, expressions, the lighting, everything. Almost reminds me of like the scene in the movie Crossroads, when they go to that place for the guitar battle. GREAT TALENT!! 😁
@susp1 I decided to put on my first production called "Circus Freak" which was circus themed as you can see. I also hired a guy to film it for me in high def and then I edited it myself. I hope you like this other side of me. Ciao T

@TheMarkNessMonster Hi MarkNessMonster! This is td, mgr for Taimane. Thank u for your comment. Actually ukes are made 4,5,6,7,or 8 strings. When Taimane first started she had a 4. Then moved to a 6. Then tried an 8, but now prefers 5 strings. So she has an A, E, C, and a double G. The main difference quite honestly is the way she plays it. She is just incredible. Mahalo and aloha for commenting. td
@lunastrixae The female backup guitarist is Jasmine, better known as Jazz. She is terrific. It's not easy following Taimane because she weaves so many songs and genres together. Jazz does a great job, as does Brent, her male guitarist.
I've seen Taimane a few times in Maui. It's an honor each and every time. As a guitar player I want to mention the lady who always plays backup is also very good and does an excellent job as backup. Mahalo and kisses!
@shawnyboie No, it's definitely an 8 string ukulele. I actually bought it for her from KAMAKA UKULELE in Hawaii. I'm her mgr. Her uke before this one (which she wore out) was a six stringer. She has 4 stringers, 6 stringers, and 8 stringers.
This video and piece will always be my absolute favourite of Ms. Gardner's. You can honestly see the energy and emotion she puts into her music. Wish I could see her live someday. I'm betting the live show is even more intoxicating that watching a video.
@bespinoza000 Aloha, this is td, Taimane's mgr. Taimane uses a few things at different times. Usually, delay and reverb. Sometimes compressor. She also tunes her ukulele differently depending on the song she is playing. mahalo for asking!
Was lucky enough to see her with a small crowd before I left O'ahu and just showed this to my students here in Bangkok because they often learn to play ukulele in music class at my school. Never get tired of Taimane's talent.
I thought ukulele wasn't really an instrument before I discovered you. Now I see all the possibilities of that insrument. Many people on UA-cam don't really know how to play this and they make it look like a ridiculous guitar but it's not. Sorry for my bad english, I'm french.
I watch this video everyday, religiously. Ive been doing so for about 4 months. I can play tiny bits and pieces of it (not much, but still smth im proud of considering the insane level she plays at) as a result. That said, my jaw still inexplicably DROPS when 2:25 hits. Every. This is a musician. She is a Musician.
You are correct. It's actually a morph version. Taimane's style is to blend genres and songs together. For example one of her most popular songs is called, "Led Zeppelin Meets Beethoven".
Ummmm,,,,,, NO! It's called dedication to your passion!!!!!!!! Nothing like this is simply given to ANYONE!!!!!!It's an incredible insult to suggest what you just said. Think before you speak EVER!!!!!!

I think the Thai people would love her music and performance style. Why not sponsor her to go there & perform?
