- Hi Guys… well here it is, the second Mr. Sloop Story put out there in You-Tube Land!
The full text will appear lower down if you wanted to print it or follow along.
Following on from being invited to accompany Sally Townsend from Alzheimer’s Society and Bristol Wellbeing on a few visits to Bristol Schools, Westbury Park Primary School, Westbury On Trym C of E Academy and St. Bede’s Catholic College, I am truly humbled by the care and Love I have received at all three schools.
Visiting these schools and being asked to help with educating the students about the disease Dementia, which I myself journey with, has been such a powerful influence on my daily wellbeing.
It has given me back my purpose in society!
These visits alone have built a confidence in me to continue rather than stop and give up! I am now all fired up to continue with the SECOND book of Mr. Sloop Stories, whereby he tells of his struggles with his own Dementia and reveals how he and his friends adapt to the changes.
So, thank you to all the students who reached out to me and said so many kind words of encouragement… they worked!
MR. SLOOP AND THE PLAYGROUND
In a small sleepy town by the sea a tiny blue house sits happily on the edge of a rocky
outcrop overlooking a beautiful sandy bay.
For once, and this is a very rare event, Mr. Sloop woke up excited!
He normally doesn't like mornings too much when he first wakes up because of all the daylight.
Anyway, today was different. Why? Well, Mr. Sloop has a plan!
Yes, Mr. Sloop, the person in the world who likes night-time the best over everything else, and who likes sleep even more than chocolate, has a plan which he can only do if he gets up, gets dressed and leaves his house.
I wonder what his plan could be?
Can you tell me a place, outside the house, where there are large toys, people can swing on, climb over and slide down?
That's right... Mr. Sloop is going to the park play area! ...And he is taking with him a salami sandwich.
Mr. Sloop loves salami sandwiches, but he got his first one
a little bit mixed up when he put the bread on the inside instead of the salami!
Fancy putting the salami on the outside of the sandwich.
Anyway, as soon as he learned to put the bread on the outside, life became far less messy for Mr. Sloop that's for sure, and his fingers stayed mostly free from sticky salami.
He got out of bed and cleaned his teeth so they were nice and ready for eating his salami sandwich later.
He put his old floppy hat onto the hook inside his bedroom door together with his night shirt which he wears in bed every night. Then he dressed and went into the kitchen for his breakfast.
Porridge with blueberries!
Sometimes Mr. Sloop has porridge with red raspberries or green apples, it all depends which colour he wants his breakfast to taste of.
Today was a special day so Mr. Sloop chose blue blueberries from the blue box.
Mr. Sloop sorts and tidies all his things not by type or size, but by colour.
This means he has a drawer with all his red things, a box filled with blue things and a cupboard where he puts anything yellow.
So, when he dresses in the morning he gets his red jumper from the red drawer, his blue socks from the blue box and his trousers from the cupboard, because they are yellow!
In the corner of his kitchen stands a huge sack that holds all the other coloured things: purple pants, brown books, his violet violin and six orange oranges, among lots of other stuff.
After he finished his blue porridge, he couldn’t wait any longer so he picked up his salami sandwich and went out the door.
As he started to walk down the path, he thought to himself, “This path is a bit lumpy today!”
Now why do you suppose Mr. Sloop said that? What do you think he had forgotten to put on?
Yes, Mr. Sloop was so excited to be going to the park that he had completely forgotten to put anything on after his socks, and this is why the pathway was very uncomfortable to walk on, even for a few steps.
Back in he goes and straight to the place where he keeps his blue shoes, in the ... can you remember where all Mr. Sloop’s blue things are kept? Yes, that's right, the blue box.
