I love the subtle way they show Qual is a genius mage. He calls the defensive magic complex, but he is immediately able to create the defensive spell upon hearing that it blocks Zoltraak just by understanding the first principles.
The initial airing of the show had the first four episodes together, making them kind of a little mini-movie to set up the rest of the plot. Which may be why you're wondering what it's about. You'll have the idea after episode four.
I LOVE the analysis you already had in just 2 episodes that people often don't realize, one of the main themes of the show is what is actually a person's legacy and how does that affect the world
One of my favorite headcanons about the Qual fight. I think each one of those shots that Qual fired had different strengths to test out how much force it takes to break the shield and when he figured out how much force it required he went for a full blast.
I think the cozy you can get from Frieren is like reading a Rumi poem. It's deep yet cozy. We all die and bad things happen, but we are all connected by love and our actions, and that's all that matters in the end.
See? The tone and delivery of the lines is WHY the subtitles are better. They don't sound like overly forced. Like when she says 'we're the same' She says it calmly as she's walking, and it's meant to be that way, not kind of forced like she's just a bit frustrated and trying to make her believe it. She honestly didn't care if she believed it, so she says it gently and calmly. It's the difference between 'DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET!?' Dumbledore asked calmly Which is different from the book and the movie.
i am fine with dub in react youtube if dub is what one watch. but it is frustrating when they are open to sub and still watch "Frieren" in dub...like why? the sub is literally perfect and the dub changes the dialogues and tones that literally changes the depth and character dynamics. frieren is a show with lits of timeskips and only significant interactions between characters during the meantime is shown to us and that means every word they speak is carefully deliberately choosen with intended mannerisms, you change that during localizing means you just changed (for the worse in this instance) unnecessarily when the original was pitch perfect to begin with. i watch dub reacts but seeing them continuing frieren still with dub when they are open to sub is just disappointing
I like to imagine that Zoltraak, in dnd terms, is somewhat like an up-casted or otherwise more deadly Magic Missile in a time before the Shield spell existed and only Qual could use it
Frieren's problem with money is she spends it, on like random shit like a spell that make sweet grapes sour. There is no saving her. I do love this series tho, it is comfy, in a sorta deep way that examines the fleetiness of human life and our accomplishments and may occasionally make me cry. Immortality seems very lonely. Kinda reminds me of my favourite Poe poem, "the play is the tragedy man, and it's hero, the Conqueror Wurm".
That spell wasn't random at all. Eisen likes sour grapes, the sourer the better. And Frieren might be extremely dense when it comes to personal relationships, but once she learns something, she doesn't forget. And, even if she's at times too dense to realise it, she cares, a lot, about the friends she made in that brief one-hundredth of her life.
Let them enjoy dub or sub. Interpretation can differ and be interesting. Just like Kaguya-sama's narrator in dub is so amazing different from sub, I was watch the dub too

I really appreciate the dubbing, but it totally changes the vibe of Frieren so much that it seems like another anime Frieren is one of those animes that you have to watch in its original language.
People keep saying how great the dub is. Allow me to disagree, the SHOW is great, the dub is passable, however passable does not do justice to the show, it just shows how good "Frieren at the Funeral" is.
I watched it on the German dub, saw reactions with the original and now a few episodes with the English dub. I thick the English dub is bad, because it changes Frierens character alot compared to the original or even the German dub (that is very close to the original imho).
@@Wamboland Ugh, yeah, I just watched a few scenes, I had forgotten how bad it was. I'm pretty critical so I try to temper my reactions, but yeah, it's just not good.
I feel like the English dub isn't an absolute dealbreaker (and some of my issues are with that I enjoy the sub translation more than the dub translation), but I absolutely agree that the sub is superior, particularly with Frieren herself. There's a level of deadpan that the dub doesn't get.
It's so cringe how people in the comments feel the need to talk about how sub is better than dub as if their opinions matter in any way, this is the most immersive way that they have decided to watch the show, so for people that prefer sub, imagine how you feel about the dub... that's the exact situation you want to put these guys in, why would you want them to watch it in a way they obviously don't prefer? make it make sense
Im sorry ill have to disagree with the peole who say the english dub is bad. This english dub in comparrison to other animes is peak. If you watch the eng sub and then the english dub the dub has way more extra thought and input from the VAs and makes it more powerful in those powerful moments. Like when frieren goes up agaisnt aurora and does her "display" its very much different and better in english dub than english sub. Also the eng VA for freiren is the VA for erza scarlet which is a goated eng VA
yes, the English dub is good too, but the one that uses the original with the sub is perfect, because the feel is very obtainable, I watched several times that used the English dub it was very strange in my opinion.
while I agree the dub is for the most part good, it can be too wordy and repetitive, and for the times they changed lines into something completely different introduce elements that are not supposed to be. Good writing is intentional, there is a reason why certain lines are brief and direct (esp when it comes to Frieren's character), and taking too many liberties in reinterpretation has its effects. Nuance comes into play with simple word choices, like how "deceive" is usually felt as negative while "tricked" is less so (even amusing), and while minor, details do matter.
You cannot guess this, but from the manga is evident that Frieren has Uncanny mental capability, that is reasoning different threads of tought in parallel if needed. For her to remember a calendar date is trivial.
Did you guys know that "Himmel" mean 'heaven' in German? "Heiter" means 'happy'. "Frieren" means 'frozen'. All the characters' names in this series have meaning.
To paraphrase another reactor on this show: There are a lot of shows where a careless phrase or action will propagate through a villain's life and threaten the whole world. This is a rare show for emphasizing the way that positivity can propagate through life and through the world
To be fair it's unclear if Himmel was an adult back then xD Considering this is geographically close to the start of their journey and Himmel was 16 when they started, he might be or he might not be an adult. The old man doesn't look mid 90s, but with Frieren's characters it's hard to say, Heiter also didn't look 100/101 when he died and yet he was that old.
i am pretty sure Heiter waas 100+. but since he is born with the blessing of the goddess since birth who is associated with healing(aka nourishment/longevity) it is easy to see why he aged that gracefully.
OC and I had a conversation about how Frieren and the way she navigates things as an elf is very similar to someone with autism. and it's great! and super relatable! I think that's why a lot of our friends connect so well to this show. def recommend checking out the sub cuz Frieren's vibe is a bit different I think.

You two are entertaining. I shall subscribe. Frieren is such an incredible and beautiful anime. Definitely cozy but also be prepared for some of the most amazing action scenes and animation in all of anime. Also, I may have mentioned this in the ep 1 video, but I'm normally more of a fan of subs but the dub voice acting in Frieren is top notch and is my preference.
Now you get to look forward to all the weebs coming into the comments section to incessantly complain about the fact that you DARED to watch the English version. Seriously, it happens to every react episode regardless of the show whenever the dub is featured. It's like you personally killed a member of their family they are so livid.
Frieren having money problems is actually explained in the manga but its a simple concept. If you live for thousands of years, the amount of money you need to live on is a huge sum. What would be enough money for a lifetime for a human, doesn't do much for her.
Wow, anime fans are still being babies about dubs. I watched the show originally in Japanese. Im rewatching it now in the dub. The dub is great, you guys like the show as is, no need to change it. The only real weakness of the english dub is that the incidental characters aren't as good, but that's a minor quibble. Its made up for by being able to put your full attention on the visuals.
Keep the dub. Enjoy it the way you already started . Keep to your Ideals, Radiant. Journey before destination. So many here already finished either dub or sub. Dont force their destination on your journey. Enjoy how amazing this anime is it.
Please change to the sub, at that time you asked whether to use the sub or dub, and of course many people suggested the sub because it was really very perfect, and that's why this anime can be top 1 on the anime list with high ratings
Sort of dissapointed. The dub is phenomenal, one of the greater anime dubs of recent time, BUT, the vibe of Frieren is quite different from the original Japanese. I feel like it impacts the storytelling and themes. But hey I'll take it, at least they did a good job on the dub.
I'm glad you can enjoy the dub, it ruins it for me. All dubs inherently have to make sacrifices to meaning in order to work, especially when the languages and cultures are so different as Japanese and English, and in a series like this that's so dripping with meaning, it makes me particularly sad.
@@Despotic_Waffle I'm personally happy. I prefer sub over dub, but they really liked Frieren's dub and I think that's more important. Does it changes the vibe of the character slightly? Yeah but it won't prevent the message or emotions from coming through.
The English dub sucks. Frieren sounds like an emotionless robot. Yes, she has emotional issues, he's developing... but that's a hell of a long way from the robotic voice in the English dub. You're missing out on 100 percent of the experience. PS: why the hair cut? Didn't you enjoy the comb anymore? Crazy 😔
