A man who was never married or who ever had a sexual relationship could speak so eloquently about marriage is a testament to the spirit of God at work in his children.

He alternately waxes poetic but between poesy the substance of his argument is substantial and life-giving. We're blessed to have these recordings; I do not think there are preachers like this anymore.

I’ve been in a, for the most part sexless marriage for 10 out of the 19 years I’ve been married.
I’ve struggled for years with this though never unfaithful.
I’ve been a Catholic now for almost a year and I’d say for the last ~6 months sex is back burner!
I love my wife! I love the mother of my children!
My marriage is so much more than sex!
The only thing I wish I could change was my misgivings that sex= love

If a man finds a woman's looks repugnant or revolting, then he needs to control his eyes and vision. Afterall, eyes have lids so that they can close. If that doesn't work, he could use a blindfold. Being so narcissistic as to feel entitled to kill someone who demands her right to be human can't possibly be intended by God.

I've appreciated a lot of the bishops insightful sermons but these arguments are uncharacteristically not well thought-out at all!
Unfortunately nonsense like this tends to discredit every wonderful thing that the Bishop has said elsewhere. That's sad.
Starting even from his first point, his discussion is ridiculously narrowly dogmatic---'People that believe in birth control believe neither in birth nor control' What evidence does he provide for that slice of gold?? People with no valid arguments often rely on attacking the character of the people who disagree with them.
A lot of couples start to use birth control AFTER they've had children / (births which they believed in enough to bring to term).
If it's God's determination for a particular individual to be born, does the Bishop have such a poor opinion of God as to think that the One who created the universe can't overcome a very thin sheet of silicon? If Jesus teaches that God can get a camel through the eye of the needle, then why can't the Bishop believe in this? What type of impotent god does he wants us to believe in here?
Either all human activity is within the natural law/order or it is not. Should people not intervene in natural phenomena at all and just do nothing, or is it rather part of our responsibility to work and achieve with science and effort?
The argument about blindfolding the ears and eyes is poor. People wear glasses and hearing aids to exceed/extend these organs natural capabilities. Should we get rid of those because they don't follow the 'natural order'? We have mouths that can be used for eating, does this mean we should we eat all the time, or that we should swallow everything that we put in our mouths?
Contrary to what he argues, having children most certainly is not a purely selfless act! How many people have you ever heard say prior to a child's conception 'I don't want to have children but I'm going to because of my religious beliefs'. People typically plan to have children because THEY WANT children, and the reasons for that are many, and most if not all of those reasons not unselfish at all,---- especially in a world that has already exceeded it's 'natural-order' ability to sustain. If scientists in the early 1900s had not invented an easy way to make nitrogen-based fertilizer, then the earth could have only sustained a fraction of the current human population. Humanity would still be dealing with more and more starvation and situations similar to when Stalin caused Ukrainian farmers to eat their children.
He talks about 'all love' resulting in the fruitfulness of children. He neglects to talk about people who aren't able to conceive. Do they not Love each other simply because they can't have children? Since this is a 'Christian' sermon, what about Jesus? Doesn't he love us? I don't think many Christians believe that Jesus's love was somehow less because he didn't have children with us.
The Bishop doesn't talk at all about human instinct. God said the animals/creation is good and animals operate on instinct.
I suppose it's not surprising for someone who's never been married to idealize it beyond rationality.
All medicine is interfering in the natural order. Why randomly choose not to intervene in one particular aspect of it?
If people could ask their would-be children before their birth if they wanted to enter this world, at least some would say, no thanks. Life is a big thing to thrust on people without their permission. Unfortunately it's also the young that have children and they haven't had the experience to understand everything that this life entails.
The good Bishop also neglects to mention that the scriptures teach that the way to hell is broad and that only a very few find the narrow path. Having more children stretches parental income earning responsibilities and may leaving parents with less time to positively influence their kids. This leaves more and more of the the training.influencing of children to the un-Christian state. Therefore based on scriptural principles, (which you may or may not believe) having more children creates a situation in which there is a higher and higher probability of simply sending more people to hell.
To suggest that using a condom somehow leads to people believing that 2+2 does not equal 0 seems a little hard to believe for me. Perhaps the Bishops experience is different, but I have had anyone that uses birth control argue to me that 2+2 does not = 0.
I certainly don't think that wearing a prophylactic is somehow an attempt to seize the throne of God, anymore than choosing not to have sex on a particular day. Does the Bishop think people should have sex continuously or they're disobeying God by meddling.
The points he uses here are really overly simplistic notions, and I would expect better from him having heard him speak on other topics. Life is full of un-ideal situations. For him to philosophize as if it was not is really dangerously naive!

These are some of the dumbest arguments against birth control I've ever heard

Sheen: "Conscience, Christ, and the gift of faith make evil men uneasy in their sin. They feel that if they could drive Christ from the earth, they would be free from "moral inhibitions." They forget that it is their own nature and conscience which makes them feel that way. Being unable to drive God from the heavens, they would drive his ambassadors from the earth. In a lesser sphere, that is why many men sneer at virtue--because it makes vice uncomfortable."
