@@pppl6664Volcano was suffering from NUMEROUS issues throughout its lifetime at the park and suffered a lot of downtime in the process, I remember going to KD one day and seeing Volcano standing but not operating. My absolute FAVORITE and I was devastated to hear it closed. We would always time that as the last ride at night. In the pitch black shooting out of the top with the fire was so cool!!!!
So I went to Kings Dominion 2 days ago, and, if you don't know already, the Hurler was replaced with a new ride called Twisted Timbers. I didn't get to go on it, since for some reason half of the good rides were shut down, but I watched a video of it and it looks amazing.
You can add Volcano to the list. If I had known it would one day close down, I would've ridden it more than once. I rode Shockwave in 2013. I fail to see how that ride was rough while King Cobra at Kings Island and Sky Rider at Canada's Wonderland were smooth. It's nice to see Delirium in its place now but I also think they have enough room to add another attraction like a sling shot. I also rode Hurler in 2008. It would be fair to say I am glad to see it as Twisted Timbers. I do thin there is still enough room where Hypersonic XLC sat for a small coaster like a Euro Fighter from Gerstlauer.
Yeah, that RMC that replaced Hurler is the absolutely violent and amazing Twisted Timbers.🔥 There’s only one thing I like more at the park (Dominator).
Shockwave was my first inversion coaster! I remember I went on with my dad who's 6'4 and they took forever to adjust the seat for him. In hindsight, it was the most uncomfortable I've ever been on but I couldn't tell the difference back then lol. Also side note: that pizza place near where it used to be is amazing
I only went to Kings Dominion once in 2006 (I live on the west coast) and managed to get on Hypersonic while my parents were buying lunch. I had no appreciation for how hard that was to pull off or how shortly that would be possible afterwards. Definitely an intense ride.
I used to work the video booth at Skyflyer which was right next to Hypersonic...that ride was constantly getting stuck. I wasn’t surprised that they took that out quickly. The Volcano and Shockwave made me sad however.
Here's some history for you....the first time I went to King's Dominion....the admission price was $14.00....the only roller coasters were the Rebel Yell and the Kiing Cobra....
That launch and top hat were so amazing, but, Hypersonic was cursed from day one. It broke down on opening day for 2 or 3 hours while they fixed a part. We had season passes, so we didn't care we stayed in line, waited 4hours to ride hypersonic opening day. Later on, If the ride was down for a extended period they would bribe you out of line with free park entrance tickets, or if it was the end of the day and the ride was down they would also pass out free park tickets. One time we refused to get out of line for just entrance tickets, so they gave us entrance passes and 50bucks to spend in any store. Another time we got park passes and a exit pass for volcano! Hypersonic was my bread and butter, lol! All my friends got to go to KD for free that season. So in total we got around 8 park entrance passes, exit pass for volcano, and 50 bucks lol. and I didn't use the 50 bucks till everything was on sale at the end of the season.
I actually fucking rode the Shockwave! Damn thing was so rough I lost one of my glasses's lens on it. I had fun, but I was super pissed about that. I didn't expect it to be that rough, as it was my first time.
Great video! The only correction would be that the first coasters to open with the park were Rebel Yell, Galaxie and Scooby Doo. When Paramount bought the park from Taft Broadcasting (Hanna-Barbera fame), they changed Scooby Doo to Scooby Doo - Ghoster Coaster...and painted it blue. It wasn't named Woodstock express until Cedar Fair bought the park.
I have something that I may want to share here. My mom was there the day of the galaxie decapitation and she had told me what happened. She had said that the teenage boy was really tall for his age and he was raising his arms when he was going around the corner, and due to him being tall along with the added haight of his arms being up caused it to catch his hands, yanking him out of the seat and the obvious happening next. I feel sorry for that boy and I hope for the best from here on for his family.
I rode the shockwave back in july of 2015. It was quite a fun ride because it was the first and only stand up coaster I’ve had the chance to go on. It wasn’t too rough, but I did ride in one of the middle rows so I’m sure my experience was different than that of whoever was in the front lol
I've ridden every coaster on this list with the exception of the King Kobra. My family went to KD every year for like 15 straight, but the line was always so long and the coaster so short, I never felt like it was worth the wait. I also rode the Galaxy at both the KD and Myrtle Beach Pavilion locations!!
Wow, so thats why dodonpo was closed? My mom and I were going to go to Fuji Q during the Spring and we saw it was closed but I never knew why, long story short we ended up not going because taking trains was a hastle from where we are to Tokyo and we didn't want to take a flight there at the time, but we may try to go there later; that's cool that they are added a loop!
I learned to make sure you are standing fully on a standup coaster by riding shockwave with my knees slightly bent when the restraints locked. I could barely walk after I got off lol
I got one ride on the Hypersonic XLC back when I was a kid, I was confused one year as to why it was gone as it was such a cool ride. That explains a lot tho. Great video!
Getting to ride Hypersonic was quite the feat. It would be talked about at school, "Did you hear about so and so? They said their cousin went to Kings Dominion this weekend and it was OPEN!" I never got to ride it despite my dozens of trips to Kings Dominion.
I grew up going to KD every summer in high school (2004-2008] I LOVED Hurler.. it was rough but it was better than their other wood coaster (Grizzly I think) one year the ride operators let me & my friends take an empty car to the top of the hill to watch the 4th of July fireworks show. I’ll never forget it & I actually miss that ride
I miss Hypersonic. I got to ride it three times and there was mad airtime on that hill. You really didn't feel gravity kick back in until you hit the curve at the bottom of the hill.

I was trying to figure out wth the Woodstock Express was and had to look it up. You should've called it by its original name and mentioned that Woodstock Express replaces it. For those of us who attended the park in the 70s, 80s, or 90s who haven't been in forever would know it by its original name....the Scooby Doo.
I loved hypersonic. I will never forget feeling like the only thing holding me in the seat was that restaurant going over the top hat. My feet left the floor sometimes lol I think they averitized it going 0-80 MPH in 1.8 seconds. They should make one with a different launch system that is 2 times the hight with the same layout.
Rode Hurler, Shockwave, and Hypersonic back in early 2000's. Rode every coaster in the park in one day actually. After deciding to conquer a childhood fear of rollercoasters.
Theme Park Crazy when you are at SFNE for your next visit, I dare you to ride Goliath 3 times in a row, with no Dramamine and eat a bag of chips or candy right before it.
I was at Fuji-Q Highland in the beginning of May this year (2017) and was super excited to ride Dodonpa; little did I know it was closed. Do-dodonpa will be a weird name. Eejanaika is a terrific roller coaster!
Coming late to the party, but this is my home park and have visited in it's very early years many times. There was a kid wooden coaster that had a very small chain lift hill with a mini drop and then followed by several small camel-back humps that went in an oval. I think you made several trips on one ride. I believe it was situated right next to or near Galaxie. I can't find any articles or videos on this small coaster for young ones. Not confusing it with Scooby Doo. Also, I don't think this one fits in a coaster category, but more than a flat ride, but there was another coaster-type ride to the right of the Time Shaft called Mt. Kilimanjaro (1976 - 1990). It was a circular connected coaster track with many coaster cars that were propelled rapidly around the track by rubber motorized tires. It shot you around pushing you into your seat on the banked curves. It went up through the mountain and back out around and around several times. Pretty fun. Nice vid! Thanks for a trip down memory lane!
My first visit to KD was in 1990 at age 8 (going on 9). I missed out on Mt. Kilimanjaro...heard of it though. I wish my folks had taken me there in the 80s.
I got to ride all of these except the Hypersonic. I remember it always stuck out to me. I couldn’t wait to get tall enough to ride it as a kid but they removed it before I could, my kings dominion got rid of it around 05 I think. Even before that, I never remember it being ridden.
It was my first coaster so it has a special place in my heart, but I still usually only ride it once every time I go. It gives me a migraine like, 9/10 times.
Yeah, Anaconda does throw your head around a good bit. I hated that, but then I decided for the last 2 inversions that I wasn't going to keep my head back and I was fine. I have only been to Kings Dominion once and rode Anaconda once and if I ever go back, I most likely won't ride Anaconda again and the same with Grizzly.
I havent been there since like 2003 but just ride everything you can lol.. I hear the intimidator 305 and Dominator are good... also Flight of Fear (an indoor coaster) is also fun... Make sure to also try out the Anaconda.
i rode iit im the that time frame it was open a great ride, it was just short but i blast, u would get off wanting more but u just stood in line for 3 hours already The japan one sounds a good trip Great Channel btw i binge on ypur videos🎉
I got to ride the Hypersonic XLC once before it closed. I’m glad I did. I really liked the Rebel Yell because of its roughness... can’t the same about the Shockwave (or the Anaconda). I wore earrings in high school, those two rides will hurt your ears.
Another reason the Shockwave closed was an earlier accident where somebody squirmed out of his protection zone and got flung off the roller coaster while trying to get a better look of Kings Dominion. I hope he got a nice view of Kings Dominion before his death...
That happened in 1999...16 years before they closed the ride. It had nothing to do with it closing. If it had, it would have closed in 1999 when that occurred.
Oh, I see. I'm now thinking that those breaks need some repair work and maybe they're waiting on parts to come. The person that said beginning of June said it had been closed since the 6th. At least Avalanche had been closed since then.
S&S Worldwide: Hey, I don't like your homework, but Iike the name for it. Can I copy it Vekoma: I guess, but change it up a little so I don't get in trouble
It was a very fun ride for the launch alone. I remember seeing girls' hair go vertical on that ride. The problems were that it was too short, had low capacity/long wait times, and constantly broke down.
i"m still upset that I never got to go on Hypersonic! I remember eating lunch while watching other people ride it, but being too scared to go on it myself.
This video reminded me of how many Togo credits I have. Shockwave, King Kobra, Manhattan Express and Windjammers. Man, what was I thinking? What was I doing with my life? Smh

Can you make a part 2 because volcano closed?
Have you riden HyperSonic XLC, if yes: Was it good?
It was a very fun ride for the launch alone. I remember seeing girls' hair go vertical on that ride. The problems were that it was too short, had low capacity/long wait times, and constantly broke down.
I would’ve loved it to experience this coaster.
can u do this for six flags over texas
I just feel like rmc is going to make every wooden roller coaster a hybrid
Your logo looks more like it's from RCT than Kings Dominion
+0MindSwept0 it is, but the coaster in the game was inspired by the real life one.
Clearly, as was *everything else* in the game ;p
For hurler when I was 6 I hit my head so freaking hard on the harness or the side of it. It hurt soo bad
i"m still upset that I never got to go on Hypersonic! I remember eating lunch while watching other people ride it, but being too scared to go on it myself.
UPDATE: Kings Dominion did it again.Volcano is no longer there and the Avalanche coaster is no longer there.
Avalanche became Reptillian. Same coaster, new theme.
This video reminded me of how many Togo credits I have. Shockwave, King Kobra, Manhattan Express and Windjammers. Man, what was I thinking? What was I doing with my life? Smh
My brother went on the shockwave I'm jealous.
PLEASE DO AN UPDATED VIDEO ON THIS!!
Well back in 83 the Woodstock Express wasnt called that . It was called the Scooby Doo
On hypersonic XLC if u pit your hands up during the launch your shoulders would actually hurt the next day
Now we have to add Volcano to the list.
bucket list park

Galaxi is a popular coaster model. Several were made. The one at Joyland came from White Swan Park sometime after 1989. rcdb.com/310.htm
