This is epic in its own way basically being a passive gimbal. To make this same one an active gimbal, you can basically use a small HDD or CD drive BLDC motor and put it beneath the centre PVC cylinder where the phone is. The shaft can be put on a bearing with the top or bottom with a support PVC and it'll act as its own counterweight when the motor is switched on using a driver. This could remove the bottom redundant motor and could give a much better stabilization as well.
maybe, those searching for an economical solution, don't have the same funds as someone like you, and hopefully, don't have the some snobby attitude as you either. Or maybe like me, who does have the funds, enjoy the fact that people come up with homemade ideas, to outprice the rip off markets we live in. Sorry you find creativity so confusing.

I love this. If only you can add a 3rd axis & include a gyro for stability...this would be perfect. Edit: After looking up on different types of gimbals, I found that this is a mechanical stabilizer with gimbal.
