+Lashrath Lets stop this, words can mean two different things BUT a couple is a word of measurement which means two of something two people, two dildos etc... If you were referring to a small number that is more than two you would say 'a few' which means a small amount. Before you argue against this maybe google the definition or be smart and look at the Oxford dictionary and educate yourself.
***** The heat required to raise the temperature of olive oil high enough to fry food cannot change the chemical composition of olive oil from a good one to a bad one.
It's almost painful reading some of the stuff these "nutrition experts" are writing in the comments. I honestly don't know where some of these people get their "information" from. Just a bunch of old wives' tales. I've been studying biology for about five years now and I still don't claim to know everything there is to know about this subject (nutrition), but wow, these people don't seem to have even a basic understanding of what the body needs.
I have to agree with you on this one, I thought to myself... surely not, and then went ahead and started to read some of the comments, literally people are just throwing chemical formula into conversations thinking it makes sense "Gordan is wrong because 'C5H10O4" that isn't an answer that's just a formula. my advice to anyone who is about to read the comments is use them purely for your amusement, because if you listen and live by their understanding of how the body and food works, you will end up eating play dough dipped in oil.
andrew T "Gluten is a protein in wheat which people FUCKING NEED unless allergic." So... if you "FUCKING NEED" it and you are allergic to it what then? You saying they are going to die if they don't get it? After all you need it right?
Maybe if you're buying a fucking kilo steak... A normal sized steak for a curry, nice ribeye or something for a decent size is about 7 pounds in Asda. I know this because i bought 2 steaks last week for steak sandwiches and made 3 sandwiches from them with trimmings for my girlfriends dog. Sorry to burst that bubble ;) good food is not as expensive as folk seem to believe. Propaganda of the fast food industry if you ask me!
Darren G Im sorry to burst your bubble but filet steak is not 7 quid per 200g mate. And hes using speciality aged filet steaks in this video. Im not on about fucking ribeye bruv... im about this video.
+Spikey Husky 25-30 depending on where you get it from, but yeah, not cheap. Definitely go with the chicken on that one, not just 'when you can't get hold of beef'!
Hill_D0gs Hairy_pusss I know, that's why I recommended using chicken (pork's a dodgy ingredient to stir fry, soaks up the flavour a bit too much and you lose the texture and taste of the pork) as opposed to beef fillet, because beef fillet is at least £25-30 a kilogramme.
Im from the states here so I wold expect it to be a bit cheaper here. I would go with something cheap like an arm steak. It's like $4 a pound. So like 6 BP a kilo.
I was doing well then, ive just lost my job im 50 and the first ingredients were well in my shopping basket, then FILLET O BEEF? Where is the man from? And im not so daft to know asparagus are pricey OUT of season. The man is a ponce. He has lost all of his true traditional home cooking his mother gave him.
andrew latchford also all this 'half the calories of a takeway equivalent' - which is a kind of racism against takeaways, when we all know that they all do it differently, some healthy, some will make you fat.
How much does a thai takeaway cost. I'm betting people spend £10 each on a takeaway if not more. And he can make more meals with all he bought. It works out cheaper as long as you stick at it rather than let food go off.
HwangJaeKR You can't consistently spend that if you're a student. Not when minute ravioli is 1 pound and seasoned chicken is 6 pounds for a double meal. Though Christopher is right in saying takeaway will cost substantially more.
HwangJaeKR That's actually pretty expensive for making food yourself at home but I guess you can reduce the price by a lot by taking a different cut than filet
studying sports with a eating problem? reminds me of my friend who also studies sports but smokes like a chine, he once told me health is the most important thing...
depends on how wide you are, overweight on the other hand depends on something else that i don't know, cause i don't really care about all that shit. body types, averages, hereditary traits, blah blah blah. but as one with an artistic/visual mind, i hate when people think fat and weight are the same thing, fat is the opposite of skinny, its only visual, i'm pretty sure that the healthy human body goes *slightly* inward ) ( (even that might be i a bit skinny) below the rib area, if your a rectangle |-| then your still not fat yet(to me at least), but once your sides start to curve outward ( ) or if instead of a rectangle your more of a square [ ] then your going into that area. whats funny is that Gordon isn't really much better than him in this respect, they're both rectangles.
Bamith how tall are you? go online get a BMI calculator enter your height and weight and see, if your still not sure see your doctor if your in the UK a GP and they can weigh you and give a diet plan
Ryan Yon BMI calculators are bs just skip that part and go to the doctors apparently im 28 on the BMI just short of obese yet my body fat is at 18 % it doesn't take into account body build im 6'8 and 255 lbs if i was to have a bmi of the recommended 23 i would look and probably be ill
I'm sorry Gordon, but all those ingredients would cost alot. Ok, excluding the base ingredients which can be used over and over again like soy, oyster sauce etc. But buying star anise, thai basil. Maybe because I live in Australia, but that would cost over $20-$30 to make that... and buying takeaway thai would cost $7-8... Sometimes shows like this is unrealistic, people who eat takeaway food is because they cook for 1. If you're cooking for 1, it's cheaper eating out, how many students would spend and cook for their flatmates as well?
+den525 Mate I've done the costing for myself. You can swap out some of those ingredients for cheaper, but equally as good quality ingredients. (He said you could use chicken instead of filet). It's so much cheaper to cook at home! (Even for one, cook bolognese, curries etc in bulk and cut down on cooking time). And additionally, Dominos/the Chippy tastes SOOOO much better if you have it once in a while rather than a regular basis. :D
+den525 I DON´T think Gordon Ramsay is so stupid that he assumes that the average studen can buy fillet of beef everyday, he was making an example, and used fillet of beef to illustrate his point, by making something EXTRAORDINARYLY delicious to bring his point home!
+den525 I think you missed the key factor....the amount made was enough for four people, which in true retrospect is 4 main meals for ben at less than 8 dollars each with much elss oil than take-away asian. they only fed his friends for show, but if his friends intended ben to cook for them you can easily assume they would be paying their share and its still better than spending takeway once you factor that in. i'm aussie, i cook 3 to 4 times a day on a piss poor budget, real ingredients, fresh veg, fresh herbs quality meat. 90% of the factor is WHERE you buy, not what you buy. Can get the exact same cut of meat for 5 dollars in one place, 20 dollars in the next, and no quality difference. go figure.
+den525 I live in Hong Kong, which is arguably more expensive than Australia. I agree if you're cooking for yourself on a per meal basis, takeaways are cheaper. But, Tupperware is my culinary best friend. I cook my lunches for the entire week on Sundays, and take them in boxes to work, and I used to do the same at uni. 2 meals and 3 meals of two different dishes for the whole week. It keeps me healthier and the price lower. You can also buy the chopped up and dried version of the herbs like basil and coriander (not as nice, but cheaper)
I'm thai and i love Gordon but that's not how we stir fry with oyster sauce. A much quicker way which is what we do is. Veg oil in, minced garlic in for about 10 seconds, vegetable of choice in, meat of choice in, oyster sauce, soy sauce and a bit of sugar in. Stir fry till meat is cooked and done. It's our fastfood lol.
I need to start doing stir fry more often. Also, anyone have any tips on eating celery? Because I literally spit it out every time I try, I can't handle the taste.
put a small amount in tomato soup with some lime pepper and salt and some hummus grains. you shouldn't be able to notice it. look for a moroccan soup called harira it contains all of this. but ig makes you sleepy afterwards
+Daniel White so does that mean you'd be open to getting cancer or some other disease by not looking after yourself with a healthy diet because it's "expensive" but health care is "free" ?
I love takeaway (had chinese already this week) and i order a meal for 4 or a meal for 2 just for me. on sunday i said "no more takeaways" by fucking tuesday i was down the chinese (one that WAS open on a tuesday!!) Its very tough to get that takeaway taste but i found that its all in the oils. sesame oils, garlic oils etc etc, if you season it right (or cook it in the right stuff) then you could broccoli in it and it will taste awesome. a little oil in moderation is FINE, just if you use oil stay away from sugary drinks to compensate! also use meats cooked from the day before, keep them cool in your fridge and fry them up with your veggies. thats what they do in takeaways to get that cheap meat taste that everyone loves! Those looking to lose some lbs and love the takeaway taste - dont fail like i did this week and not exercise (get heart and blood flowing a few times a week). stick to say one or two takeaways a month as a reward you can enjoy, fill the rest of the week with fresh food cooking and fresh ideas and quick ideas like this that help make food more interesting, and less like a binge. do not take pills that claim to cause weight loss etc, no "stack" pills diet or powders or whatever will make u lose weight. if you feel tired, too tired to work out etc, make a better breakfast for urself! Breakfast is key to losing weight, second is just some fun activities in your life that get your heart rate up (watching horrors dont count lol), third is eating food you enjoy but making it like this so that you enjoy it, but also stay away from takeaways as much as you can. you will see the difference in a few weeks, it takes time, dont beat urself up or go back to a takeaway after only a week or so.
Would be an awesome experience to learn from a chef like Gordon. Have been watching quite some episodes of the UK and US versions of kitchen nightmares and damn..... If he would come to my restaurant (I do not have one but hypothetically speaking) I would turn, figuratively speaking, into a sponge to absorb Gordon's knowledge.
This seems overcomplicated and expensive. Lower cost and effort option could be oven baked chicken breast seasoned with only salt and pepper, a serving of brown rice cooked in a rice cooker or nuked sweet potato, and an oven roasted veggie like broccoli or asparagus seasoned with a bit of olive oil, salt, and pepper. The chicken and rice can be batches cooked.
not in the log run. a bag of carrots is like £1 for 10 at tesco. same for broccoli. that's the majority of a weeks veg (cooking for one) for £2. chicken breasts can be between 3 and 5 pound for 5 so that's your main protein source for the day for most of the week. bag of rice is £1 and lasts a fortnight. you can add lots of other stuff but the basics is the same price as like 2 take aways
I think it's safe to say that Ben will never make that stir fry.

Its very tough to get that takeaway taste but i found that its all in the oils. sesame oils, garlic oils etc etc, if you season it right (or cook it in the right stuff) then you could broccoli in it and it will taste awesome. a little oil in moderation is FINE, just if you use oil stay away from sugary drinks to compensate! also use meats cooked from the day before, keep them cool in your fridge and fry them up with your veggies. thats what they do in takeaways to get that cheap meat taste that everyone loves!
I live in Thailand and when i went to that store in England everything costs so much in Thailand all of those probable cost half of the price
Who's watching this whilst waiting for a takeaway 😂
I doubt that somehow. Probably the most expensive thing would be the fillet of beef but that could always be substituted.
2 weeks later he was trying to get a free apple pie from McDonald's with the monopoly vouchers
I wish I could go grocery shopping with Ramsey.
This is my kind of poetry...
Hands up for the hard core fan... PMA
Omg he carried a plate on his arm, that wouldn't go as smoothly for me
This seems overcomplicated and expensive.
Can anyone tell me what are the sauces he used? I couldnt hear it properly. (For the soy sauce, is it sweet or salty one?)
It's most likely salty soy sauce. Preferably dark soy sauce, not light.
The first one is oyster sauce and the third one soy sauce, but i couldn't get the second one..
DuendeOrson either rice wine vinegar or white wine vinegar
he made hoisin sauce I believe
Harvey Specter Thanks!
Feesh ingredients are more expensive than takeaway food
not in the log run. a bag of carrots is like £1 for 10 at tesco. same for broccoli. that's the majority of a weeks veg (cooking for one) for £2. chicken breasts can be between 3 and 5 pound for 5 so that's your main protein source for the day for most of the week. bag of rice is £1 and lasts a fortnight. you can add lots of other stuff but the basics is the same price as like 2 take aways
Gordon can never be still. He's up and bouncing even when he's standing still.
Well you don't want to be stuck in one place when your cooking, moving around is a good thing
Gordon is right about that, instead of buying fast food, make at home, it will always be better, have been doing that myself for last six years.
can confirm this recipe is fucking epic. the only issue i have is the price. The fillet alone costs more than a takeaway
