i've been staying at home with my pets since i've been 15, i'm 24 now, and i gotta be honest, keeping my animals happy and comfortable is something i enjoy a lot more than those pesky and disgusting fireworks.
Banshee Queen agreed. My dog is completely fine with fireworks (he’s a lab so pretty chilled), but I’d still rather be with the dog/ horses to make sure they’re okay! X

The fact the neighbors don’t take into consideration that there are HORSES right near their house sucks. It’s annoying. I’ve never had fireworks so close
Lisa Ashbell - you’d also think that the neighbours would have horses or pets of their own that they should also be worrying about. I can’t imagine that this property is in the middle of a built up housing area, but rather properties similar to theirs. Fireworks should be banned worldwide.

Last year some guys shot fireworks right over our cows and they found it funny to see how the animals were in panic D:

not just animals, but they also don't consider people that have been to war, children that get scared easily or people with autism that react badly to this. Such a shame that most people don't think past their own wants.
Actually not every animal is scared about fireworks. E.g neither my horse nor my dog is really scared. Of course my horse isn't 100% comfortable with the sound but it's still pretty chilled. The only thing my dog doesn't like is one of my neighbors fireworks. It's really really loud and makes our house shake. So that's the only thing he's kind of afraid...
Still I know there are a lot of animals which are afraid of the sound and the lights of fireworks but still: it's not every animal.
In my opinion it's okay to make a firework in bigger cities. On the countryside I'm not a fan of it.

just me I’m just not a fan of it when people who love out in the country don’t take into account that fact that people around them have animals. At my old barn the neighbor had asked the barn owner about fireworks and all of the horses were used to it so she said it was okay.

I actually shuddered when I saw a dad with a young kid in his arms buying fireworks. Here in the UK a brave lady shared a video on Facebook of what happened to her little girl when a firework 'misfired' in the family garden. Let us just say, the doctors were unable for safety reasons to give her enough pain relief to cope with the skin grafts etc that had to be done. Can't understand why anyone would now take that risk for 'fun'
Here in Germany some of our friends start to play music around 11pm in their stables and make it louder towards midnight. So when all the fireworks are going of, the horses only hear the loud music.
Its proven that it has to be classical music if its to calm the horses.
I personally think that when the owners start to fuzz and black out windows and puts laud music on, it makes the horses more nervous. If you as an owner just relaxes and treats it as any other day, most animals are gonna be cool.
Ive had one shetland pony who was freaked max out during new years, but other than that all the other horses i have had, haven't really reacted, one does the thing Chase does, but if you dont freak out, they will soon get calm.
Even the dogs and cats I have had don't react, because I don't react and just treats it as a normal day. I think that works.
Thank you Matt and Jesse for sharing your evening with us. Everyone seems so surprised that you 2 stayed home with your animals to make sure they were safe and not too stressed out. But if they had taken the time to listen to you two they would know that's exactly the way you are. I think Mazey did quite well considering how young she is. i remember when i was a teen, there were lots of fireworks even before a Christmas. Now we have more restrictions and thanks god every year less and less can hear that noise
There's also been alot of restrictions here in Denmark, but people are still using fireworks for all of december >.< It's making you insane. And there's often those REALLY LOUD ones, that dont have any light - they are just loud and scare the shit out of you. I know there's many people that want it forbidden, and be that it's only professionals that deal with the firework and make a show on new years. That would be so much better for everyone.
And god damn the city looks terrible today. No one ever cleans their shit after that night. It's on all roads, houses etc.
I wish we had restrictions here cause a lot of people shoot their guns here. A woman lost her life yesterday due to a bullet going through her window
My cat was mentaly dying in my house because of all the noise, she was running around and just looked petrified. This morning my cat was so tired and my neighbours were still lighting fireworks, luckily she is fine now and just a huge fluff ball in her bed

The Dutch love their Fireworks!!! I was able to spend a couple of New Years in Maastricht and I was so shocked how many BIG fireworks EVERYONE ignited!! It was really fun, but it was so good you guys made it a point to be home for your animals. Nicely done and Happy New Year!

Luckily our stable area is a bit outside of the city, so the horses can only hear the fireworks. I think my little one did alright last night. She did not even flinch when fireworks started going up again today. But she is an old lady though.
I wonder if Chase spooked most at the fireworks because he is still quite new to the Netherlands, while Annie, Bear, Macho and Antarres are native NLanders and have been hearing these fireworks every year since they were born there? Loved this video, great to see what you experience as you know in Australia we don't do fire works as individuals. Sadly, I don't have horses anymore, just me and my two dogs here. We spent a terrified night where a new neighbor lit a LOT of fireworks off that were the size a city would use for a public display. This is a sleepy rural neighborhood here, and most of us were in bed when what sounded like world war III just went off.
It traumatized my big German Shepherd enough to where he cut me with his claws trying to get in my lap.
People just don't care who they terrorize as long as they have fun around this area.

I spent my night with my scared horses too. We don't have a stable to put them in, so we walked out to the paddock to have like 100m distance to the closest fireworks going off. So glad it's over!

Here in the UK in November a horse was impaled on a fence post in his field whilst trying to run away from fireworks. He laid there all night in the cold, in agony till his owner arrived and found him in the morning. Heartbreaking.
Stupid loud fireworks.....grrrrrrr. We’re very lucky there weren’t many very close to us last night. But the 4th of July here in the USA is a stressful time for the horses and ALL wild and domestic animals.
we are not allowed to light fireworks in belgium. we need permission for that, otherwise we will get a fine. I think that is actually good because then it is less stressfull for the horses

Actually in Germany it is pretty similar. Just on newyears it is a free for most (no national parks and stuff).
But many people don't care and policr has more important cases on hand. It won't be worth the effort now. Every year it is the same.

The sizzling ones really get my guys. I have considered ear poms for them. On July 4th, here in the states it has become common for regular people to shoot off big stuff, but not ever sure which night they will choose. I spend the evening sitting in front of them and feeding carrots. At least then I turn on the fans as it's hot and the noise helps a little. Luckily last night it was quiet. Sad it is a world wide crazy problem.

My horse Queenie, is like Chase, but she's bucks and I normally stay in the stable with her, but she was just to fierd up, and my friend has his 6 y/o 17hh so we had to keep an eye on both, Mina (6 y/o) was so good and calm especially with her dad (my friend) and luckily no one was hurt, we are actually partying tonight due to that so HAPPY NEW YEAR ❤️

HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2020 to you both and of course the horses, pony and pup. I was really happy to see you bring in the horses and pony during the fireworks. So many people leave theirs out and wonder why they are cut to ribbons by the next morning. Animals ARE afraid of the sounds and do try to escape. The trouble with these people is that they blame the others for letting off fireworks. . . Well done. A good hay net and a bucket of chaff with treats will sooth any horse.
You must try to think that not every horse owner has access to a stable so their animals have to stay out so yes it is the fault of the people who let off the fireworks

I have a barn in a North Georgia suburb. Since they made some fireworks legal, these idiots light them up for any possible holiday... days before a perceived holiday and days afterward. The horses are held hostage in their stalls. It isnt just the noise. It is the bottle rockets that wind up in my pastures. Those could cause great injury. If these fools would follow the laws, everyone could live peacefully without personal property being damaged. I'm more than annoyed. Lol.

@@christyb7590 Our dogs wad the rugs up and that's how we know there's been gunfire when we aren't home. The horses are ok in the pasture, but I don't love being in the middle of tacking up or riding. One neighbor is really close and by my arena.
@@bocolewish I am sure that is past annoying. I am lucky that behind my arena and barn there is a small cemetery belonging to the church across the street. That keeps a buffer from the noise of gunfire and makes it not as "shocking".

We have to endure the firework noise twice a year here in the U.S. Where we used to live, it would go
on from about dark to about 2:30 a.m. The first year, I sat with my 2 horses to keep them calm. After that, they
seemed to endure it, but it is annoying, no sleep for anyone! Now where we live, our subdivision is a
horse based community and we ban the fireworks for the horses sake. You can still hear them in the
distance, but better. I was amazed at how calm your horses remained through the very close up noise
and visuals. Anyway, we do not like the noise as it generally upsets all the animals, dogs, horses, etc.

In the UK we have them on the 5th Nov as well for guy fawks night, it's just so stressfull
This is why my horses and dogs have been desensitized to them. My one horse is my retired Partner with the Mounted Unit. My one GSD is my retired Partner on the Canine Unit. It's not hard to do. Makes it so much better.

For next new year's eve, maybe try oat sprout extract for the horses and also the lil' doggy if she's scared. The extract has a calming effect. Also you can put ear plugs in the horses' ears to muffle out the noise. Just make a ball of cotton wool, wrap it in soft fabric and put it in the ear, then cover with a hood which you have several of as we've all seen.

My lease horse lives outside 24/7 in a big herd. It wasn't a good time during newyears.
But it was very intresting to see how the heard leaders and the subleaders really took charge and kept everyone in check. No accidents happend thanks to those 5.
Something that really helps some horses are those noise dampening earnets.

guys you wouldn't want to bring yourself into a possible situation where you lose control, or maybe get injured trying to hold or calm down your horses. Best to let them stay in their stable and be secure and you go to the stable and reassure them things are going to be okay.

Always with my horses with nye, not partying. Luckily my horses are not scared of fireworks. My family used to have fireworks, but not anymore. My mare is a broodmare now, but she’s always a little bit stressed. My foal from Totilas was absolutely not scared, he was very interested 😅
