Kalle, your videos are like mini meditations - your wisdom cuts through the noise and leaves me feeling grounded and inspired. Thanks for sharing your insights! Your calm wisdom is a breath of fresh air in the UA-cam world. I always feel like I learn something new and valuable from your videos. Keep sharing!!
dearsir, started watching your chanel weeks ago, and i canthelp keep comingback! the slang, the humor, the bodylanguage and mos importantly the relaxation you convey.. o and the cheers.. its so soothing.. tqsomuch! we love you!!!!! wish you and family be always happy and healthy!!!!!
If I may add my own one, as someone fairly new to the craft this one is important for me. Do one thing. For example then you pick up a screwdriver to remove the train of wheels bridge, you don't remove the train bridge, you don't remove a screw, you don't undo a screw...you do one thing, then you do the next one thing Check the screwdriver fits in the slot Turn the screw carefully so it doesn't slip out the slot Remove the screw driver Hold the screw with the right part of the tweezers so it doesn't ping off.... Don't think about next steps, let alone finishing the job, you do a series of 'one things' and let the finished job emerge.
I'm just getting into this sport, but I've made radio controlled aircraft and I'm a photographer, spending a lot of sitting and concentrating time doing both. Background music or audiobooks are a must for me or I can only concentrate for about five minutes at a time.
Ok, Sunday morning at 6am (USA west coast). I'm rarely conscious at that time and not usually geared up enough to learn much before 9am sometimes 10am. It's good for me that that these videos are available on my schedule. 😊
I’ll be honest, not the first time I’ve been called a tool. Great advice. I’ve found the combination of microscope and adjustable height desk for when I need eye level work to be a game changer.
Kalle, thanks for all the information you share with us. I agree with most of your comments except for the music. In a quiet room it's easier to hear where the runaway watch part hit the floor. It helps to spend less time on hands-and-knees searching for it. 🙂 By the way, what's the brand of the coffee you drink in your videos? It looks delicious.
Kalle, I just recently found your channel while searching for information on an old Seiko movement I recently started tinkering with. At first I thought this video wasn't for me (I am NOT a watchmaker, I am just a collector who is trying to venture into understanding and tinkering with mechanical movements) That said, this was some great advice. I am a scale model builder and even though my small parts are nothing in comparison to a mechanical watch (I have nothing but the highest respect for watchmakers) your advice is something I will definitely apply to my scale model building. Thank you for sharing and I am looking forward to exploring and learning from your content. I have always been very skeptical of a lot of the current Watch Repair/restoration UA-cam's so it is very nice to find an actual watchmaker I can trust. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, it is very much appreciated. -David
Great advice Kalle, I’m a retired engineer but an aspiring watchmaker. I think I’m way too old to start this hobby because anything I do I have to be good so I don’t think I have the time to learn and get enough experience to be good. But I’m going to try anyway. I’d also like to see what are most important tools you recommend e.g. screwdrivers, tweezers etc. I’ve started just modding some watches to get an idea of this fascinating hobby. Again, thanks for the great advice.
Yoga, I totally agree! I listen to vinyl or audio books. I do yoga, so control my breath, I use a microscope, I copy you and top up with orange juice! Also your last point, the more I learn, the more I realise I have so much more to learn, but I realise how much a better watchmaker I have become! Thanks Kalle!
Just to add, that for the music to work it needs to be a well known music. Otherwise it will distract you. I remember that I wanted to hear my favourite song and I started it from the beginning at least 10 times, because at the moment I played it, my mind switched off and I was fully concentrated in the work and didn't remember the song.
Thanks again Kalle. I’m really enjoying these shorter tips and tricks of the trade that you only get working with a mentor or getting a huge amount of experience by yourself. I find your comment about quieting the subconscious really interesting, having spent time competing and coaching a couple of sports at high level we strove for the opposite, quieting the conscious thoughts to all the subconscious to execute.
I've finally found the time to watch the video. I have similar issues with posture in the coin business, looking through large batches of diverse coins takes time and concentration and often some research and occasionally a lot of research all of this trying to read the book or screen and the coin.
Thats so ture! My dad loves to hear radio news all the time in the backrond while he works on watches, i cant stand it 😂 but its better then the silince, thx for all of thoes vids, really helps out when im feeling a bit sad or strese about my carre in life
Regarding upper back pain I stretch by standing up and put my hands on the backrest of a chair then a bend forward to stretch by arms back, then I press myself up to activate the muscles. Have worked wonders.
Thank you Kalle! Maybe those „Kalles wisdoms“ have to go into your book too. However you described how I behave when it’s getting delicate: stop breathing 🤣🤷🏻♂️. I’ll try to breath with the belly 😉
Thanks Kalle, very sensible advice, I can only work intensively for about an hour on a watch movement before I need a break to loosen up and maybe have a nap!!
Thank you, Kalle. I have heard these rules of yours, perhaps not all in the right place, and I feel comfortable with them. Finally, I purchased my AmScope 3.5-45X. It truly changes "the game rules" for me. I am very happy and feel significantly better when sitting upright, seeing everything perfectly.
Hi there! Just for curiosity... does you microscope has a AmScope badge somewhere? I've recently aquired one form their website in Europe and it does not feature any brand what so ever. It's like a no-name one.. Thank you!
Sound(noise) is a huge deal for me because I always keep my area completely silent and any noise scares me! Amazing to hear your comments regarding sound because it is spot-on. I am now trying to play music in my background to see if it helps. My lovely wife recently told me that my aversion to sound is not good-I would get upset if she made any noise-and I should get it resolved...but how? I too love audio books so maybe that will work for me. Thanks, Kalle.
Thank you! Personally I cannot listen to music at all while trying to concentrate. It's always been very distracting to me. It puts me on edge and I find myself getting angry and having lapses in concentration and make more mistakes. Different minds work differently and I've never been a person who could focus on more than one thing at a time that requires concentration. I know many who can. I'm just not one of those. I need absolute silence while working on something that requires good concentration. The quieter the better, in fact I do even better when wearing my noise cancelling headphones. Regarding listening to audio books I love doing that while driving. The one thing I cannot stand is someone on a radio or some other program who says stupid things trying to be cute, funny, or woke.
A though provoking video. . . . The more you know, the more you’re aware of the things you don’t know . . . This is what Donald Rumsfeld called “the Known-Unknowns” And it’s what I am talking about when I say some specious article or commentary is quite valuable despite being mostly wrong. Some such ideas spawn a multitude of previously unconsidered questions. The least of it is reminding you to articulate WHY they are wrong. . In my Processual School, a scientific inquiry was a failure if it did not end with more questions than when you started.
No hand tremors, hyper respiration, stable blood sugar and muscles, and excellent subconsciousness and euphoria. Yes, that heaven leaf 🍁, god makes it for human.
Good health to all watchmakers!

thanks chief, good info.
personally I need silence for repair work/concentration, unless I'm having some of that tonic you're enjoying
Thanks!
That is so generous, thank you so much John! 🙏🍀2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣
Thank you. They help a lot!❤

You are so good to share your experience in watch making! Thanks! From Hong Kong 香港🇭🇰
Kalle. Thank you for your words of wisdom. Great tools of the trade that will help all of us.
Hi ,
Thank you for the rules, we have to learn slowly in this big big watchmaking.
Regards from Catalonia !!

Thank you, it is these gems of advice one will never read in a watchmaker’s manual. Your knowledge sharing is bringing my skill level up, thank you

Did…did you just call me a tool? 😂
Point taken. Good vid.
Only with affection 😅😅
If they ask me, I’m only healthy because of watch making ❤❤
Nice video Chronoglide!

great points, applicable to other small - scale crafts / arts as well.
please do a room tour, it looks very intresting
Great advice Kalle thanks a million 😁👍
Thanks, Kalle. I couldn't do it without my microscope. I don't like to use loupes. I use my lighted magnivisor for stuff that isn't too small.
What are you drinking? Looks like espresso. Very enjoyable videos. Thank you

Love the channel Mate! It's helped me immensely with my new hobby.

A few pints of lager always helps.
It's now been zero days since someone called me a tool :D
Only with affection 😅🍀
Also, coffee.
Класс! Спасибо!! 👍
That’s true that’s dedication
Thank you!

Breathing "too high" is a big issue in general because people sit to much. Read into it, it´s worth it.
Good morning
The more you learn, the more you realize what you don't know.
What about coffee ☕️??? Mini Break-Times are essential as to not get 😵💫🤪
Yes Kalle, music can help, but When i hear Blackbird of the Barefoot Servants, i stop working completely😀
You forgot golden rule #5: Drink coffee regulary all the time. Especially in the middle of the night. 🙂
watchmaker table ,s very expensive
The single tool most important in watchmaking is: THC. A single spliff for one eta movement would be perfect.
No hand tremors, hyper respiration, stable blood sugar and muscles, and excellent subconsciousness and euphoria.
Yes, that heaven leaf 🍁, god makes it for human.
Be grateful that it's legal in holland, Amsterdam...
