  • This is a quick and basic guide on using EQMods built-in Star Alignment tool.
    This guide is just to get you started.
    Using EQmod's Multi point Star Alignment tool is a excellent and easy way of ensuring accurate alignment on your chosen object, especially if imaging.
    The Tool uses an algorithm involving the use of triangles. The idea is that the object that you want to view or image is within three alignment points, a triangle.
    Each time you slew to a star being used for alignment. you will need
    to view it using a eyepiece (EP) if the star isn't central, slew the scope
    until it is central, when done click on sync. You will need to do this
    with all stars being used to create alignment points

      Why thank you Xhani.
      I have always been a big fan of K.I.S.S. I have never understood why a tutorial/guide needs to take, what seems forever just to show the basics on how to perform simple tasks?
      There is no need to stake the long route to get to a solution. That will come in time, as a person progresses up the ladder. As the saying goes.. Learn to walk before running!

    Thanks again. Very well presented with the instructions. nothing more nothing less and VERY easy to understand. Just steps required and no waffle. Not enough words to say how well this has been done. top stuff.

      Thanks my friend. I'm like you. It is how I prefer guides to be. I don't understand why so many people produce movie length guides to explain something that can be done in a few minutes. That's why I produced these like they are. Short, Simple, and straight to the point!

    Super appreciative for this instruction. I was looking for a 'sync' button in the EQMod software interface. lol. Thanks for pointing out the 'Sync' is below the 'Slew' button in Stellarium.

      Just make sure that if you move your mount you will need to do it again!
      So if you do move it, try to put the mount back in the same position and all you will need to do is a polar alignment.

    I've just connected everything using ASCOM/EQMOD to eliminate the Synscan controller on my HEQ5 Pro, and was looking for something like this. I have 2 questions:
    1. do i need to do this alignment every observing session? (I will have physically moved the mount inside at the end of the night)
    2. is this kind of alignment procedure necessary at all if using PHD2 guiding? In this case, do it just help with slewing to the imaging target?
    Cheers, Dave

    • @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217
      @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Dave. Answers to your questions:
      1. No.
      But as you have to move your mount, what you can do is make some marks on the ground where the feet sit. Now when you set up the mount it will be near enough pointing in the right direction. So all you need do is a polar alignment and you are ready to go and your mount will use the existing saved points in EQmod.
      2. Eqmod star alignment is used to get the target in the centre of view for imaging/viewing when slewed to the target.
      PHD2 doesn't need the EQmod star alignment as it works off the polar alignment to track the target.
      Hope this helps?

  • @maverick799
    @maverick799 3 роки тому +1

    Hi - following polar alignment should sidereal tracking be 'on' in EQMOD when doing the star alignment or turn on sidereal tracking after star alignment? Appears to be off in your video (?). Great tutorial - appreciate the help!

    • @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217
      @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217  3 роки тому +1

      A very good question.
      It's entirely up to you. The reason why I have it turned off, is because the tracking is overridden when slewing to a target, so it's not needed. The only time you need tracking on, is when you are imaging or viewing a target.

  • @jvargas454
    @jvargas454 3 роки тому +1

    Thanks for the video, but I do have a question. After doing the four star calibration, you picked M3. Does the telescope track M3, or do I have to tell the Stellarium program to track?

    • @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217
      @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217  3 роки тому

      A good question.. Yes the telescope tracks M3. The use of M3 was only used just as a example, but as a general rule you use a star. If you have already set alignment points that allow you to centre on a specific object, it can be used as one of the 3 alignment points to create a triangle. If you use a object like M3 you need to be certain that it is in the centre.
      When creating alignment points make sure that the object you want to view or image sits inside of the triangle.

    Can anyone help? I bought a Heq5 Skywatcher mount, you cannot enter lat./long except in a format that I don't know, GPS coord will not work, this is in the hand controller, I have EQMod & Stellarium set up, I'm running into the same problem, when I punch in lat./long. it gives a wrong parameter error?

    • @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217
      @astronomyforbeginners-a4b-217  2 роки тому +1

      to get your coord's use google. The GPS in EQMod will only work if you have a GPS dongle connected. On the hand set you can't use the + and - symbols for Longitude E and W, so you use 00 and 01. For example My longitude is W: -1,53,59 so this is entered in the handset as W: 001,53,59
      If the longitude is E then it would be entered E: 011,53,59. In EQMod make sure that you are not getting the Lat' and Long mixed up. Also don't enter the seconds. If for example If it's W: -1,53,59.12 don't enter the .12. Also make sure that you set your Longitude to E or W correctly. E= Europe, Asia, Middle East. W = UK, USA. Google will tell you which you are.
      Hope this helps? If you are still having issues please join my FB group, so we can give you better assistance. If you do join make sure that you answer the Entry questions!
